Uno Riddim
Cat: IMRV 042. Rel: 22 Jan 25
Uno Riddim (4:13)
Neighbourhood (feat Hijinx) (3:45)
Shook Ones (4:52)
Review: The man of many aliases, Jevon Ives brings his Nina project to a whole new level with this powerful Innamind triptych. 'Uno Riddim' will have you picking up four on every turn with its sharp tongued Portuguese vocals and slithery bassline. Plenty of fire follows as Hijinx goes ballistic over 'Neighbourhood' and reps with a full UK assault while 'Shook Ones' greases up and slides us into the future with a powerful sense of creepy android funk. Change direction.

Hunter
Hunter (12")
Cat: LDHV 002. Rel: 04 Apr 25
Rouz (6:06)
Silk VIP (2:16)
Fear Suppression (3:43)
Hunter (4:09)
Review: Liverpool Dubstep Heads invite Russian artist Ninety over for some low-end fun and these four tracks are the result of their adventures. As with many of his previous tracks, Ninety errs on the side of trippy across the EP with strange off-grid flurries and psychedelic twists throughout. Highlights include the wavey sheen and sparkle of 'Rouz', the pinched staccato drama of 'Fear Suppression' and the all-out theatrical tension of the title track. Hunt and go hard!

This & That
This & That (7" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: NICS 003. Rel: 04 Oct 24
This & That (2:53)
Dub & That (2:50)
Review: The Plymouth soundsystem and collective known as No Ice Cream Sound take their namesake after the historic Johnny Osbourne song 'No Ice Cream Sound', which hears one of the many most popular faces and voices of reggae decry "ice cream sound", his shorthand for tunes and soundboys who'd dare soften the original intended rawness of roots music. Here the boys take a thousand-watt megabulb to a gelato the size of a glacier with 'This & That', which hears residents Charlie P and Jman go back to back, trading verses and rhythms in a soundsystemic pattern. Fusing influences of both rubadub and roots, the two versions featured here are truly twin whirlwinds, not for slackened belts by any stretch.

Review: "The electronic musician's electronic musician" Richard Norris is one of those underrated UK powerhouses who can do myriad different styles with equal authenticity and invention. From psyched-out sounds to sleazy disco and now onto dub he is always worth tuning into. This record is a nine-track work that explores a number of different, brilliant deep soundscapes from liquid rollers peppered with melodic rain to dark, dank and heady subterranean sounds for the dead of night. It's an artful work of cinematic sound design and an impossibly absorbing atmosphere.
