Review: Soanish mega-label Blanco Y Negro continues to reissue rather good, but frequently overlooked, gems from its vast archives. This one, from German-Spanish synth-pop band Cetu Javu, dates from 1992 and sees the combo combine their early Depeche Mode-esque vocals and synth sounds with nods to the more driving, peak-time ready sounds of European house music. That's best exemplified by the opening 'Remix' version of title track 'Dame Tu Mano', which also comes in the moody synth-pop style 'Extended Mix'. Over on the flip, we get the chiming melodies, mid-80s Pet Shop Boys grooves and Euro-dance bleeps of 'Una Mujer (remix)' and the Bobby Orlando-meets-Shep Pettibone fun of 'Tempo (remix)'.

Review: Over the years, Marcello Catalana has released music under countless aliases - Airmail, Daryl Scott and Marcy included - but it's his mid-80s work as Thomas that gets Italo-disco collectors in a spin. This two-track retrospective from Blanco Y Negro offers up remastered versions of two of his most sought-after Italo-disco cuts from that period. On side A there's a chance to savour in-demand 1986 single 'Another Game', a Bobby Orlando-influenced chunk of synth-heavy glossiness that boasts eyes-closed lead vocals, rubbery sequenced bass, Fairlight style slabs, mid-80s edit trickery and some memorable lead lines. Over on side B you'll find 1985 debut 'You Take Me Up', a slower and arguably deeper Italo-disco workout peppered with freestyle-influenced synth melodies, reverb-laden drum machine fills, warming chords and a classic synth-pop style lead vocal.

Review: Wolfsheim was a German synthpop outfit formed in 1987 in Hamburg, comprised of Peter Heppner and Marcus Reinhardt. They split in 2009, said to be due to personal differences caused by the solo activities of Heppner who had become a popular vocalist collaborating with the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Nena and Schiller. Their haunting first single 'The Sparrows And The Nightingales' was originally released in 1991 and is a classic among the more goth-y types, having also been reissued on Dark Entries a while back (this one's courtesy of Basic Mix/Blanco Y Negro Music) as well as receiving a remix in 2006 by master of all things pitch black - Ancient Methods.
