Review: One for the heads here on Body and Deep outta Holland. First out of the blocks is Atlanta house mainstay and a master of smooth and seductive sounds - as well as being the NDATL label boss - Kai Alce. His 'Dreamin' is a timeless classic with cuddly organ chords neatly draped over shuffling drums while a distant male vocals brings the subtle soul. UK vet Alex Arnout then dips down into pad laced after hours territory and Alfonzo Bottone layers up sunny synths, broken beat drum work and jazzy chords on 'Mindfully'. Javonntte's 'Too High' is a typically classy vocal house groove with some fine samples making it sure to pop right off in the club.

Review: Spanish label MATE host a four track, two artist 12" that stretches across the Atlantic to take in top house music talents from both sides. The Belgian duo Chasse follow their releases on Robsoul and Exploited take on the A-side, with 'Viola' proving a chunky but emotive offering held together by rhythmic sax stabs and suspended strings and 'Deep Link' a jazzier affair, the sax let properly loose as a plaintive piano loops atmospherically. The prolific Detroit producer Javonntte, a regular on the label, offers up the fantastic Moog improv wigout of 'Sunday Brunch Cocktail', registering some impressively original high frequency operations. 'When Music Feels' boasts a spoken word vocal from Javonntte's own sister and a more classic deep house sound with an uplifting, spiritual vibe. Maximum value for money via four very playable tunes.

Review: Javonnte can do no wrong right now, so you'll be unsurprised to learn that the long-serving American deep house producer's latest collaboration with DJ Soch (their first landed in 2018) is another must-have slab of sublime soulfulness. In its' original form (track four), the cut is a spaced-out chunk of semi-acoustic lo-fi soul. This sensuous, undeniably downtempo version comes accompanied by a trio of floor-ready takes. Review: As if it wasn't enough for them to secure the services of French artist Evenn for the 'One For Love EP', the Selections label has done the double on its ninth release and enlisted none other than Detroit's Javonntte to remix the title track. The original is almost the definition of deep house - gorgeous strings and pads you could almost drown in, a female vocal eased on by an uplifting piano and silky beats reclining at a moderate but insistent pace. Javonntte's mix keeps the vocals intact but chops and changes a little more beatswise and has its head somewhere a little spacier, both in terms of its Mayday-esque bass end bleeps and celestial pads. Kicking off the B-side, 'Inspiration' is more of a hypnotic, looped up affair, as is the speedier and heavier close to proceedings 'Round N Round', making good use of the filter functions and disco vibes from the past.

Review: Underrated US house artist Javonnette has been on a superb run recently, always turning out emotive house music with classically inclined vibes but plenty of fresh ideas. He does it on a wide array of labels and next up is Rawax's Motor City Edition sub-label. His Dirty Digital Experience EP kicks off with the creepy 'Alone With You' with then 'Deep Into You' brings more eerie synth work over heft, chunky drums. 'Every Body's A Star' layers up gorgeously smeared synths and drifting vocals samples and 'Neptunelove' closes out with big, bright melodies that light up the Motor City grooves.

Review: Detroit veteran Brian 'Javonntte' Garrett makes a big mark on The Jazz Diaries with yet another superb EP. He's been doing his do since the 90s, having first started playing piano aged just 15 and later touring with Aretha Franklin. That means his music always comes with proper chords and rich melodies as well as timeless house beats that are as interesting as they are irresistible. 'Get Down' here is a real cracker with funky bass riffs and chunky kicks next to soulful vocal swirls, while 'Outerbound' is pure jazz-funk goodness with noodling keys and chords and a beatdown groove to die for.

It's his fourth 12" of the year, but there's no audible drop in quality. Choose between the bumping, bass-heavy goodness of "Groove Society... Review: It's been a while since Detroit producer Javonntte last treated us to a collection of tracks, with his last fresh material dropping way back in 2008. Since, he's kept himself busy by playing instruments on records by Mike Grant's Cool Ppl project. There's much to admire on this five-track collection, from the fluid deep house bump of "Bounce" - whose killer bassline impressively drives things forward - and wavy late night positivity of "Chaka's Revenge", to the classic US deep house brightness of "My Life". The EP concludes with two versions of "These Words"; the super-soulful, vocal dreaminess of "Mix 3", and the similarly warm and comforting "Original Instrumental".

Review: Two takes on the same basic idea here, as Innermoods head honcho joins forces with Detroit producer Javontte - someone who has been in fine form of late - and Brooklyn buddy DJ Romain. Javonntte and Duncan's version of "Drumz Of Africa" is deliciously percussive and groovy, with tasty trumpet lines and warming chords rising above loose-limbed machine drums and a toasty bassline. Romain goes heavier on the drums on his version, placing Duncan's Latin-inspired trumpet work over a combination of dense machine beats and bongo-heavy hand percussion. It's the more obviously floor friendly of the two and all the more remarkable given that it was apparently jammed out in East Flatbush on a Sunday night.

Review: Lumberjacks in Hell's latest release may well be the smoothest, warmest and most soulful chunk of deep house we've heard so far in 2021. 'Jus Move' is a cross-generational collaboration between Jonna and Javontte, with both providing slick, eyes-closed vocals atop a hazy, occasionally loopy backing track (all clipped organ sounds, unfussy drum machine beats and woozy chords). It's followed on side A by one of the final remixes by the late, great Michael Baumann AKA Soulphiction - a dusty, jazzy, warming and tactile take tailor-made for dancefloors at sunrise. Detroit's Marcellus Pittman provides a longer, Osunlade-influenced take on the flip - think deep Afro-house with plenty of jazzy mucsical details and you're close.

On this release, Laseech has reached out to the mighty, eternally prolific Javonntte for a little vocal magic, resulting in the utterly sexy deep house burner "More Than Friends". It's a track that Marcel Vogel & Tim Jules clearly dig, judging by the light touch they applied to their own remix of the track. "Take You Away" on the flip is another sweet and sultry warm-up or backroom jam that gets lifted even higher by Javonntte's stellar vocals.

For this one they arrive on YORE with artful yet floor-ready grooves that are steeped in classicist traditions but are executed with modern style. 'How We Groove' has a busted bassline powering along slinky drums and a chopped up vocal under swirling chords. Keeping in line with the label's love of dusty, sample based music inspired by hip hop and house productions, Garrett brings that unmistakable Midwest deepness of "Love Without You" and the sultry "Sweet Midnight" featuring Nikki O's sensual vocals into play. On the flip, you are treated to some deep and driving dub versions of each respective track which make the perfect late-night soundtrack.

Review: Before relocating to New York City last year, Pontchartrain invited the legendary Javonntte over to record some material at his east-side Detroit studio. The result was the deep, down and dirty late night groove of 'Keep Dancing' (Detroit mix) while the NYC mix is a more pumping, heads-down affair on an old school electronic disco vibe with a nice dose of 303 acid for good measure. Over on the flip, 'Cirrus' is a deeper, cloudy and synth-heavy house track, which is backed by Delano Smith's dubby and hypnotic Motor City Re-Rub.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: After a strong opening bout, Chubby! steps back in the ring with more quality-assured deep house roundhouses from heavyweight prize fighters. Trinidadian Deep did such a fine job on the first Chubby! they've invited him back to unfurl a transcendent wooze of tumbling percussion and heady organ tones. Vincent Floyd steps up on remix duties, turning "Rebel Fract" into a more sharply rendered strutter buoyed by the original's radiant synths. Detroit don Javonntte drops in on the B side with the utterly classy "Jazzy Day", which funks and bumps with an unmistakable Motor City ruffness and some gorgeous melodic flexing over the top. Patrice Scott then steps in for a remix that finds the veteran producer wriggling into a stunning house shuffle with a piano line to die for.
