Review: Beat Records pin down a lesser-explored corner of Ennio Morricone's immense catalogue with this reissue of his soundtracks for Idoli Controluce and E La Donna Creo L'Uomo, two Italian-German romcoms, to both of which he lent a breezy, lounge-forward touch. Written in the late 60s but only widely released decades later, these scores mix flirtatious bossa nova, baroque interludes, whimsical cues and lush romantic themes, from the gentle sway of 'Donnabossa' to the dreamy 'Aspettando Lei' and the high-spirited pace of 'Correndo Verso Lei'. Notably 'Villa Madama', heard briefly at a party scene, makes its CD debut here after previously only surfacing on a rare library LP and Japanese compilation.
