Review: Absent since sharing space with Ali Renault on the Split LP for Bunker back in 2012, the artist known as Q Chip resurfaces in style with Difference That Makes A Difference, a 12" platter for Solar One that continues the label's Elektronische Werke series. Much like last year's inaugural Elektronische Werke release from Frenchman Dynarec, Q Chip uses the series to explore the darker, unhinged end of the electro spectrum across four productions. In Q Chip's world, the future is a place of paranoia and crumbling civilisation, be it the harsh synth lines and snapping 808 rhythms of opening track "Pleasure Anxiety" or the more classicist take on subaqueous electro bounce that permeates the title production and "Sence Data".

Review: Mystery electro trasher Q Chip lands on the young and poker-faced Gnosis label with six magnetic shocks of metallic drum music with a distinctive sound from Den Haag. In fact, Q Chip's debut came on the mythical Bunker Records back in 2012, and for all we know, he could be Guy Tavares himself. However, all you need to know is that these six stray bullets of post-industrial war-dance are as fast and as furious as anything that's come out of Holland's electro scene, and each one is more deadly than the last. "Reality Tunnels" is our favourite purely because of that noxious electro squelch trail that it leaves behind, but "Quantum Jumping" could just as easily make the rewinds for us. The title track "Access Consciousness" is perhaps the maddest part of this cerebral EP, and the sort of tune that could mix in quite well in a Metalheadz d&b set circa 1998. Dope.

Review: A split LP of darkside transmissions arrives from The Hague, as the mysterious Q Chip teams up with the amphibian techno overlord Cestrian for Bunker's latest 12" shaped Weapon of Mutant Dance aimed at deflecting the growing forces of mainstream misery. Little is known of Q Chip other than Yorkshire is this producer's base of operations and stylistically the four tracks hinge on a dark rippling robotomised electro flex that fans of Dopplereffekt will find most appealing. Complementing this, Cestrian leads your senses on a journey that veers through vast expanses of noirish textures one moment then disjointed and dystopian box jams the next..

Review: They say that hardcore never dies, which may well be true, but it sure does come in and out of favour. Right now it is growing ever more popular in the underground mainstream once again. As such Kniteforce strike while the iron is hot and offer up some new reissues of classic Q. Project material from the first time round back the 90s. This EP It's Time futures two straight-up bangers that fuse breaks, jungle and hardcore in thrilling fashion. To be honest both are good but 'It's Time' is the one with its high energy vibes and non-stop drum power.

When it comes to UK hardcore/jungle schematics, they don't come much more authoritative than Q Project's 'Champion Sound'. That growing hoover sound and iconic vocal stab and those mercenary breaks... Like Total Science's Q himself, this still tears up dancefloors almost 30 years later. As does the often overlooked B-side 'Night Moves'. Bumping and rolling in the shadow of the anthem on the a-side, this wonderfully minimalistic track highlights the power of that essential stripped back dynamic of breaks and big bulging subs - the only ingredients any good D&B track truly needs.

Review: The mysterious Qnete tied off 2015 in fine style, landing on London's Lobster Theremin with a saucy little white label that rocked our speakers out. He's back early doors in this new year, and he's landed on the shadowy ZCKR label with a phat slab of electro that'll wake you the **** up, and take the dance floor by the balls. The one-sided plate, entitled "Grey City Anthem", is a storming slice of dark, neural electro funk that sounds like it's been constructed in 3D. Huge moulds of acid unfold onto grainy drum machine beats, and a swarm of disjointed, raucous bells. Hard stuff, good and proper for this time of the year.

Review: Fresh from dropping a fine mini-album on Djak-Up-Bitch (DUB), rave-loving electronic fusionist Quadratschulz (real name Carsten Schulz) pops up on Golden Pudel's admired Pudul Produkte label for the very first time. It's a rather cheery and ear-pleasing collection all told, with the sometime Shipwrec artist focusing on combining cheery and colourful synthesizer melodies with a variety of eccentric, on-point machine rhythms. The pick of the bunch is arguably surging opener 'Duke of Sealand', where Schulz usual sparkling electronic lead lines dance away atop skittish, high-octane beats and a rubbery, funk-fuelled bassline. That said, there are plenty of treats elsewhere across the EP, with the classic '90s IDM flex of 'Gestalt' and the deliciously tactile, acid-flecked deep house colour of 'I Don't Believe' standing out.

Review: Bitterfeld continues to blaze its own electro trail with a seventh outing that again its top draw. This one is a various artistic collection under the title For A Bitter Tomorrow: Band 2 and opens up with Salomo's 'Bodytalk', a crisp and ice cold electro rhythm before Interviews bathe you in gloriously deft sci-fi melodies on 'Let Go' and Qwerty's 'Kisela Neman' then brings some madness with crashing hits and molten acid lines. Jonbjorn's 'Chica' closes with similarly high impact electro sounds and raw textures.
