Review: Peter Kersten, better known as Lawrence, is the veteran deep house producer and gallerist who many of you may know as chief of Hamburg's Dial Records and who made external outings previously on Japan's Mule Musiq where he released several lauded long-players. His latest one comes courtesy of Berlin's Sushitech entitled Earthshine, a 3XLP featuring 12 tracks written and produced by Kersten over the last five years. All in all it's a diverse selection put together by one of the scene's most highly regarded artists.

Review: You don't need to know that Craobh Haven was made during a one week residency at a tiny cabin in a remote Scottish village of the same name. One play through of the latest stunner to land on the ever-excellent ambient institution SWIMS and it'll feel like you were there in person. A witness to the creation of this strangely natural-feeling, highly technically-crafted, six tracker. Everything about the work by London-based musician and visual artist Loz Keystone and Glaswegian synth explore and jazz trumpeter Christos Stylianides feels in the right place. Its warm and fuzzy but vast and windswept. It's avant garde and abstract, but rounded and complete. It's incredibly inviting and slowly hypnotic. Distant samples of inaudible chatter and looped melodic refrains. Distorted walls of noise masking the patient power of aching brass. You get the point.

Review: Making their debut on Warp, Hudson Mohawke and Lunice proudly cross their beams to rain down a sick and slick kind of future-crunk, aptly demonstrated in in the introductory nature of bass-rich teaser "Top Floor" with its juke leanings and menacing posture. There's a detuned nature to the recognisable bleeps and wails on offer here while the beats remain crunchy and steadfast. "Higher Ground" is more overt in its use of juke to create a twisted kind of hype, while "Bugg'n" drips and drops in a loping vat of sub bass and slow-mo strangeness, leaving you with one of the oddest takes on the contemporary mess of electronic beats.

Review: Legendary Italian drummer Tullio De Piscopo's quintet offered up the magnificent Future Percussion in 1978. It is a cult classic album for collocates and anyone else that now gets a deserving reissue owing to its hard to fid and expressive nature. It is a fantastic suite of cuts with rare musicality and expressive jazzy sax solos, splashing cymbals and rousing drum work. These are powerful evocative pieces that can elicit everything from rage to romance, tears to sweat. Music like this will never age.

Review: Angel Song, originally released in 1997, is a landmark jazz album that has stood the test of time. The quartet session, led by the legendary Kenny Wheeler and featuring Lee Konitz, Dave Holland, and Bill Frisell, is a masterpiece of tranquil, chamber-like jazz. Wheeler's compositions are hauntingly lyrical, providing the perfect framework for the improvisational brilliance of the ensemble. Konitz's alto saxophone weaves effortlessly with Wheeler's flugelhorn and trumpet, creating expressive and melodic dialogues. Dave Holland's bass provides a solid foundation, allowing Bill Frisell's guitar to soar with harmonically rich improvisations. The absence of a drummer adds to the intimate and introspective nature of the music, allowing each musician to shine in their own right. Review: Let's face it, Hollywood director Christopher Nolan broke the mould with his re-envisioning of Batman. Taking things closer to the original comic books, themselves forced to 'go soft' by censors in the early-1950s, his films payed direct tribute to the saga's direction from the mid-1970s onwards. A trilogy of movies that were visually arresting, tonally dystopian, and viciously unhinged. It's not clear if we'll ever get a superhero (or anti-hero) film series of that class and calibre again, the world on screen so immersive you quickly feel like a Gotham native. A big part of that universe-building comes through the music, which enlists two of the greatest names in the history of soundtracks to help weave the tales. Hans Zimmer has composed for more than 150 films, James Newton Howard in excess of 100. This compilation of their shared caped crusader efforts proves why they're so well respected.
