Berlin's Cocktail d'Amore and Tokyo's Ene Records have come together once again to present the music of Solidair. The duo of Cocktail alumni Luigi Di Venere and Jules Etienne present three tracks aimed to induce a dance floor hypnosis. Orgonite (Riding the Waves) does just that, a slow build awash in the ebb and flow of acid tinges, just enough to wet your whistle on a Saturday night. The original mix keeps the skeletal support but throws in a life preserver of 8 bit gaming synthesis. Frisky arps call and respond to each other before making way for sinewy pads to lift off. Tiger's Eye sets itself onto cruising speed incorporating elements of late 90's acid techno with the sleek and smooth clubbing aesthetics of modern day Berlin.

Review: A deliberate exercise in Y2K aesthetics and cyberpunk electrance comes in the creative output of DJ Natural Nate - his latest EP for Hoodwink Recordings, 'Notes To Jiggabot' - which consists of four tracks eulogizing his cybernetic partner-in-crime, Jiggabot (several releases from this pair have come out since mid 2018) and seemingly the object of his fantasmic affections. Whether the likes of new numbers 'Chasing The Rhythm', 'I Will Shine For You' or 'Far Away' originate from some angelic conceptual otherworld or this banal material one, it's hard not to love the signifiers poured into the EP: US freestyle jaunts, pure femme vocals doused in reverb-reverbs and melismatic hums; hyper-compressed, lightsabre-sculpted beats and visual cues reminiscent of childhoods spent lost in postmodern futuristic fantasies, such as those of Deus Ex or Blade Runner.

Review: Released back in 1996, Test Pilot Vol 1 has remained a highlight of the Viewlexx label ever since and has been one of those records that command regular calls for a repress. Kudos to I-F then for finally heeding these shouts and presenting a remastered edition for the masses. For the uninitiated, this 12" features classic Hague cuts from I-F and Jungian Archetype, another alias of the Viewlexx boss, with all four perfect for introducing a sense of bedlam to the dancehall. Review: Mall Grab's Warehouse Music serves up sounds for just that setting and for this latest bit of dancefloor dynamite, they turn to Joshua James & Ride Committee Featuring Roxy for a twisted new single. 'Love To Do It' is a mix of hefty hits and crunchy drum breaks, driving techno bass and filtered vocal stabs with wordless vocalisations. It's intense and high energy but has a unique character which then gets mixed up by Mella Dee, twice. His Law & Disorder mix is a stripped-back and punchy banger with freaky vocal work and the Split Your Wig mix is even more punchy and barrel chested.

It is a heady mix of techno styles starting with the adventure that is 'Comex'. This 85th outing is a hand-stamped, white label 12" in mad limited quantities from Alex Jann and it opens with a cosmic adventure in the form of 'Cold Light Wave'. Extending the idea of splitting a slab of wax between artists to the music itself, 'Split Machine' is the latest from French-Spanish collaborators Jauzas The Shining and Cycloplex, united in their taste for rugged electro. Even so, their respective styles shine through nicely here: The former delivers three cuts of aggressive and textured basslines, while the latter offers two tracks of comparatively hypnotic rhythms. Review: Second time round for Jensen Interceptor's Afrika Bambaata and Soulsonic Force-sampling electro monster, 'The Fontainebleau', which first appeared way back in 2016. This time round, the Aussie's original mix - a warped, tooled-up take on 'Planet Rock' with added insanity and bass so warped and heavy it may give you nightmares - comes accompanied by a quartet of fresh revisions. Exzakt BFX steps up first with a moody, clandestine-sounding version that wisely employs some different electro beats, before Salome successfully pitches up and beefs up Jensen Interceptor's original mix. The final two mixes come from some genuine legends of the scene, with the Advent's 808 cowbell-and-sub-bass-heavy take being followed by a funky, squelchy and genuinely mood-enhancing revision by DJ Godfather.

Review: Jinje is a solo project from Lee Malcolm, a founding member of the Leeds-based experimental band Vessels. His music in solo mode is just as singer and hard to categorise as with his band and here on Mesh he veers between electronic, synthetic and organic sound worlds with driving breakbeats topped with gorgeous string sounds, hype-real synths and a shimmering sense of sonic futurism that is awash with melody. Review: Welcome to the Jotel California, where the kicks are analogue and the synths electric. That is certainly the cat eon this new Borrowed Time EP on Klasse Wrecks, anyway, which has four cuts of searing dance floor electro. 'Nabelmilch' (feat Babyblade) opens up in a blizzard of kicks, hits and withering sci-fi synths. 'Bulldoze' slows down with squelching bass lines and more roomy and cinematic vibes and 'Borrowed Time' then takes off to the stars on a punchy rhythm overlaid with rich bass pulses. 'Slow The Sunset' is another mid-tempo and atmospheric cut with bright acid lines and plenty of astral motifs.

Review: The fourth record from the French electro label Perfusion. So far, each release features multiple artists showcasing their own brand of the next generation electro. Nite Fleit's 'Off Radar' is an audio attack on your senses, a sometimes abrasive, crunchy, raw, heavy bass stormer is not for the faint of heart. Swooh's 'The Streets' also has an over-arching sci-fi sound to it revelling in the history of electro. For the second side, High Fidelity's 'Say My Name' adds a rave-punk attitude to the mixture of electroclash, gabber and techno. The EP rounds out with a breakcore romp with Juicy Selekta's 'Stackin' Up!' that features some hip-hop samples. If electro-shock was a genre, you'd point people to this track. Intense.

Review: Josh Dahlberg is The Valley and the Mountain aka TVTM and is an artist who has made a big move recently from the deep westside of Detroit all the way across to the far reaches of the Pacific Northwest. He he arrives on Central Scientific for its inaugural release with Detroit-based producer and Akka & BeepBeep founder, Jo Rad Silver, taking care of the flip. Next to an array of hardware, there is plenty of improvisation with guitars in this EP - 'Experiment Obscura' is a widescreen and dramatic ambient cut with a meditative feel and 'Immersion Theatre III' is another empty but inviting piece with curlicues, wispy pads, distant guitar echoes and moodiness to spare.

Review: Generations of modular might fold in on themselves as legendary Buchla pioneer Suzanne Ciani patches into accomplished French synthesist Jonathan Fitoussi for this outstanding album on Obliques. The title is clearly a tribute to Morton Subotnick, whose own Silver Apples Of The Moon is a true ground zero for West Coast synth albums and as you might surmise Ciani and Fitoussi opt to create something more shapely and inviting than the wild, brilliantly alien tonal mutations Subotnick conjured up back in the 60s. If you're familiar with either artist's work you won't be disappointed, as exquisitely rendered melodic flourishes, delicate spatial processing and subtle textural shifts unfurl around your ears across these eight beautiful pieces of synth perfection.

Review: Bristol has a lot to answer for when it comes to atmospheric downtempo stuff. The birthplace of trip hop is still commonly associated with the genre decades after its inception, but this shouldn't make anyone think for a second the city has sat idly by gorging on the fatted calfs of Massive Attack, Portishead and the like without pushing further experimentations in the art of sombre, slow, emotional electronica. Jabu are a great case in point, and if the world were different, fairer, and less overwhelmed with band names you can bet your bottom dollar this South West England trio would be household treasures by now. Having released a number of genuinely mesmerising albums packed with meditations on loss, landing on exalted labels such as Blackest Ever Black, here they present a generous helping of unreleased and previously unheard bits and pieces that led to the back catalogue we now have. Tellingly, everything here was always worthy of release, so it's great this has finally happened.

Review: Jack Bags is back on La Sabbia with volume two of his Panorama Groove series. Once more he flies through a mutant mix of electro and techno in his own singular style. 'Another Acid' is first out of the blocks and layers up gurgling 303s with dark and sleazy vocals over a fat mid-tempo groove. 'Gently Glide' does just that with a more serene atmosphere, silky chords and ice cold drums - it's a super nice tune for late night grooving. Elsewhere are the likes of the grubby 'Ground Control', the Chicago jack of 'In My Mind', twisted and sludgy electro-techno motions of 'Operating Base' and the futurism of the more stripped back 'Underbush'.

Review: Loraine James continues to trust her instincts and serve us some of the most honest and original music within the leftfield electronic sphere right now. Having recently paid tribute to the work of Julius Eastman on Build Something Beautiful For Me, now she retunes to Hyperdub with the record she claims the teenage version of her would have made. The label text makes explicit reference to the likes of DNTEL and Telefon Tel Aviv as well as math rock, but James is also way out in her own zone metabolising such influences into unique expression. There are some wonderful guest spots from the likes of RiTchie, Marina Herlop and Eden Samara, while James herself centres her voice for some of the album's most poignant moments. Gentle Confrontation is another outstanding chapter in James' ever-intriguing story.
