Review: The new candidate for the nicest guy in rock, Sam Fender has built a reputation for writing about touching subjects. And his new album, produced by none other than The War On Drugs' Adam Granduciel, doubles down on that approach. The chamber rock ballad 'Remember My Name' is written from the perspective of his late grandad, nursing his grandmother, who was suffering with dementia. It's a real tear-jerker thanks to the ornamentation in the arrangement and Fender's soaring vocals. The title-track is a another stand-out here and much more upbeat - like light and day compared with the harrowing feel of 'Remember My Name'. You can hear Adam Granduciel's influence here and in some ways, it sounds like a sequel to The War On Drugs' 'Under The Pressure', which is no bad thing.

Review: Franz Ferdinand made a perfect debut album. The Glasgow indie rockers could have called it a day way back then and we'd still be listening to them now. But somehow they've retained their magic and are now onto their sixth studio album and 20th year as a band. Alex Kapranos and co. teamed up with the same producer as they had for their fourth album, Right Words, Right Action (Mark Ralph) and that spawned some absolute bangers, so expectations are high for this. Despite having to adjust to new members in the group - it's the first album to feature drummer Audrey Tait and guitarist Dino Bardot - they've come up with the goods on the singles. 'Night Or Day' has the contagious Franz Ferdinand groove that gets crowds bouncing at festivals. And 'Audacious' is perfect for the holiday season - majestic, lush and full of galvanising lyrical sentiments that can't help but unite people. Surely, this album will go to number one.

Review: Turning the clock back to 1991, legendary Welsh DIY pop band Ffa Coffi Pawb repress their second album for the modern listener. Recorded with experimental electronic studio head Gorwel Owen, in a flat, above a Post Office in Rhosneigr, on the island of Anglesey, it makes no apologies for its uptempo and cacophonous sound, swagging out the starting blocks like a Celtic Happy Mondays. Or, more accurately, Black Grape. Shades of Primal Scream are equally audible in at least some of the guitar riffs, although given the group were fronted by a young Gruff Rhys - who would go on to form Super Furry Animals before embarking on his own critically acclaimed and musically outstanding solo career - you can bet your bottom dollar this is far more original than any lazy comparisons would suggest. Or whatever that translates to in Welsh.

Review: Death Is Nothing To Us has been a long time coming, and in many ways represents pinnacle moment in the Fiddlehead story. In 2010, Pat Flynn, who some knew though Have Heart, lost a father who left behind his grief-stricken mother. Faced with the profound impact death can have on those forced to pick up the pieces, and feeling incapable of helping, this emotional period directly informed Fiddlehead's 2018 debut, Springtime & The Blind. A little later, Flynn's first child came into the world, and the sadness that comes with having a kid but no father to introduce them to was distilled into 2021's follow up, Between The Richness. Now, two years on, Death Is Nothing To Us rounds off the fatalistic trilogy, a rousing journey from bleak depression to strength, which touches on ideas from sleeping off trauma to leaning on friends. The result is every bit the right way to conclude this odyssey - leaving us under no illusions as to how difficult life can be, but how important it is to acknowledge when it's there, all delivered through equally vital hardcore anthems.

Review: Field Music unveils 'Binding Time' for this year's Record Store Day and it is a poignant suite of songs inspired by the Durham Miners' Association's formation, all performed alongside members of the NASUWT Riverside band. The album was first commissioned for the Durham Brass Festival and slated for Redhills' DMA performance in July 2021, but sadly Covid restrictions postponed the event until its debut at Durham's Gala Theatre in 2022. Review: Fields Of The Nephilim, a UK goth band formed in 1984, made waves with their second studio album The Nephilim. Originally released in 1988, this goth masterpiece and reissued here in form set was released, featuring four bonus tracks for fans to enjoy. Known for their blend of hard rock, goth and psychedelic elements, led by vocalist Carl McCoy's growling, harsh voice adding a heavy edge to the music alongside Tony Pettit on bass, Peter Yates and Paul Wright on guitars and "Nod" Alexander Wright on drums, they create a powerhouse of sound on tracks like 'Chord of Souls' and epic seven minute opener 'Endemoniada'. Review: Goth heroes Fields Of The Nephilim's second album The Nephilim was realised 35 years ago by Situation Two and Beggars Banquet in 1988. Recorded in a former courthouse in the Somerset countryside, it has not been re-pressed since then and now comes on special golden brown vinyl with, of course, their most celebrated track and the rather epic 'Moonchild' (which hit number 28 in the UK charts) included alongside three other new bonus cuts. Influential frontman Carl McCoy twisted metal and electronics in his work after he first formed the band in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. This album was their best work and still stands up today.

Review: Fine Glindvad Jensen's Rocky Top Ballads is an album that feels as though it's suspended in time, capturing moments that are both timeless and ephemeral.
