While initially released in 1990 under their original moniker of Repulsion with the title None More Negative, the band would quickly decide to alter their name to Type O Negative before rebranding/re-releasing their debut full-length Slow, Deep & Hard the following year. Much heavier and more abrasive than their later goth-rock leaning material, the lengthy pieces on display here feature numerous volumes or entries which veer between almost crossover thrash hardcore elements and a more primitive form of industrial metal, all reigned in under the already incomparable demeanour of frontman Peter Steele. Sonically, the closest to Steele's prior project Carnivore yet already boasting many of the machinations that would become constant identifiers of the group's sound and aesthetic, almost two and a half decades since arrival, this first LP still resonates with the sinister prowess and sultry vision avid fans forever credit to Type O Negative.
