Cult heroes The Sound are the original South London post-punks and had a run from 1979 to 1988. Their brief run means they haven't hung on for dear life and left a really tight back catalogue with five smashing albums in their wake. This is the pearl in their oeuvre, though. 'Silent Air' evokes Robert Smith at his melancholic best. 'Sense Of Purpose' is not alone in placing their trusty Roland Juno-60 analog synth high up in the mix and it's what gives the album a lot of its best tones. 'Fatal Flow' is up there with Echo and The Bunnymen's best and 'Posession' is like Joy Division meets T-Rex. It's an endlessly captivating listen throughout.
