An enduring slice of London musical coldwavey mystery comes in the form of the Sisterhood, whose album gift, 'Gift', was granted to us all in 1986. A solo outing of one Andrew Eldritch born after the demise his former Sisters Of Mercy project, Gift was first released on Eldritch's own Merciful Release label in 1986. Described by Eldritch as a “a weapon in (the) corporate war" of music - "that's why I called it Gift (in German: poison)" - this is an incendiary techno record, masked by its double-bound intention as a gift to be given; the shadow side of the alienated commodity, as Mauss might say. The perfect year-end present, especially for the Secret Santa subject in need of a technologized wake-up call.
