After two very impressive EPs for Love Monk and a debut album in the works, Stuttgart trio Space Ranger drop four tracks of chuggers delight on the Plimsoll imprint. Demonstrating a deftness for sampling, opening track "Chocolate Bar" leans on the Bar Kays for that distinctive heavy beat, but wraps it in a burning boogie synth tone, aided by plenty of peaks and drops. "Costa Verde" opts for a filtered disco strut which really works once the track hits the three minute mark. Space Ranger round off with two tweaks of DC La Rue's "Cathedrals", with the glistening disco dub of the alternate version proving to be that little bit more impressive. An interesting prelude to what should be an exciting album from the trio.
