Given the city's long association with the sound, we'd say that this celebration of 30 years of Berlin techno is long overdue. Compiled by Heiko Hoffman and designed as a companion to a 2019 exhibition, the set's 22 tracks offer a brilliant snapshot of the birth, development and global dominance of Berlin techno. It begins with one of the earliest Detroit-Berlin collaborations (3MB featuring Juan Atkins' 'The 4th Quarter') and ends with the piano-sporting stomp of FJAAK's 'Breathe'; in between, you'll find raging acid trance (Futurhythm), analogue electroclash (MMM), wonky minimalism (Ricardo Villalobos, Sleeparchive), after-hours sleaze (Plastikman remixing Heartthrob), mind-mangling eccentricity (Efedmin), intense techno jackers (Rodhad), and industrial-strength hypnotism (Modeselektor).
