Bare Bones Wax's first release of 2023 mirrors the agenda-setting approach of its 2022 multu-artist debut, with a quartet of artists offering up cuts that define the brand of forthright deep house that the vinyl-only imprint wants to release in future. It's a rock-solid collection all told. Underground hero Lil' Mark blurs the boundaries between noughties Chicago boompty and Maurice Fulton's Syclops project on the bouncy brilliance of 'Bare 2 The Bone', before label regular Carlo Gambinho opts for a far deeper, early morning-friendly sound on the warm and woozy 'Satchmo'. Romanian producer Dragosh's 'Fresh Fruit' is deep and minimal with added soul thanks to the use of some cut-up male and female vocal snippets, while Heat Alliance's 'Morning Light' is a TB-303 sporting, sub-heavy jack-track.
