Kelly Lee Owens: Extended Version CD

When it first appeared earlier in the year, Kelly Lee Owens' eponymous debut album got rave reviews across the board. Listening back some nine months on, it's easy to see why. Made up of fluid, evocative tracks that nestle in the cracks between experimental synth-pop, outsider techno and vintage IDM, it's the kind of set that you'd expect to hear from established artist, rather than a relative newcomer. The artist's dreamy, drifting vocals - a little reminiscent of some of Alison Goldfrapp's early work with Orbital - add an almost heavenly edge to proceedings, while her production - assisted on occasions by Daniel Avery collaborator James Greenwood - is deft and imaginative. This "Extended Version" boasts a trio of bonus cuts, all of which are every bit as strong as the original album tracks.
