Review: This reissue marks the vinyl debut of Alien Ant Farm's 2003 album, a record that captures the band's energetic blend of alternative rock and nu-metal. Produced by Stone Temple Pilots' Robert and Dean DeLeo, the album features a raw and powerful sound, with tracks like '1000 Days' and 'Drifting Apart' showcasing the band's heavy riffs and dynamic songwriting. 'Quiet' and 'Glow' offer moments of introspection, while 'These Days' and 'Sarah Wynn' deliver infectious melodies and catchy hooks. The album also includes a four-page booklet with lyrics, adding another dimension to the listening experience. This reissue is a must-have for fans of Alien Ant Farm and anyone who appreciates the raw energy and melodic hooks of early 2000s alternative rock.

Review: Classic rock up there with the likes of Audioslave, Foo Fighters and Guns N Roses, Kentucky natives Black Stone Cherry write anthems that make you want to put your foot down on a vintage hotrod and blaze a trail through the desert. The guitar playing is supreme with flashy solos and a Led Zeppelin-esque ability to hone a riff. Singer Chris Robertson has a bit of Chris Cornell about him with a rich timbre and strength to be able to sing in front of a wall of stack amps without sounding drowned out. This is a reissue of their second album that originally came out in 2008 on the label that gave us Slipknot - Roadrunner. It's a critically acclaimed entry point to their oeuvre and went to number one in the UK Rock Album Chart when it was first released.

Review: The self-titled debut studio album by Jacksonville-based rock band Cold, originally released in 1998. Discovered by A&R man Fred Durst (from Limp Bizkit), Cold burst onto the scene with this potent blend of raw emotion, haunting melodies, and powerful instrumentation. Led by vocalist Scoot Ward, the band quickly garnered attention for their introspective lyrics and intense live performances. With a variegated nu-metal sound - the listener is only first thrust into an ostensibly incendiary sound with 'Go Away', both satisfyingly crisp and grungey in equal measure, before finding respite in the more temperate moments that pepper the record, as on 'Ugly' or 'Strip Her Down' - Cold recalls every influence between Alice In Chains and Type O Negative, and nestles a palpably unique sense of longing in the cracks between the otherwise more prescriptive pillars of the grunge style.

Review: Originally released in 2005 as the follow up to the more accessible, melodious alt rock endeavour that was 2000's America's Volume Dealer, the seventh full-length from Raleigh, North Carolina stoner/sludge legends Corrosion Of Conformity, boasting the epic title In The Arms Of God, would take a half decade of introspection and self-reappraisal to materialise. Rediscovering their incomparable knack for hefty trudging riffs that displace the Louisiana bayou blues to caverns of beer-soaked sludge, for many the album signalled a return to form with both critics and avid fans celebrating the band's more corrosive elements once again. The only project not to feature drummer Reed Mullin as this was during his sabbatical from the group, while most notably being the final work with primary songwriter and overall mastermind Pepper Keenan until his glorious return on 2018's No Cross No Crown.

Review: Originally released in 1996, Ear Candy would serve as the sixth full-length from often unfairly slept on progressive metal-oriented hard rock titans King's X. Following on from the commercial success of their 1994 predecessor Dogman, the album would be the band's last for Atlantic Records as it failed to hit the same numbers, yet that blessing in disguise would eventually give them a new lease on life with Metal Blade. Long out of print, the wonderful people over at Music On Vinyl have given the record its overdue flowers with their reliable numbered 180-gram audiophile treatment on lush purple wax, restoring the highly technical yet accessible fluidity of bangers such as 'Sometime' and 'Picture', with the latter being an updated version complete with new lyrics of an older cut titled 'The Door' originally written under their previous moniker Sneak Preview, while 'A Box' features guest vocals by Glen Phillips of California jangly alt rockers Toad The Wet Sprocket.

Review: Living Colour's third album, Stain, marked a bold shift in musical direction for the NYC quartet. Following the success of their previous albums, the band delved into a heavier, angrier, and less accessible sound. True to form, Living Colour didn't shy away from socially conscious lyrics and thematic track groupings - see titles like 'Go Away,' 'Ignorance Is Bliss' and 'Leave It Alone'. The latter half of Stain is more diverse and experimental, with the industrial-tinged 'Auslander' standing out as one of the stronger cuts. Stain also marks the debut of bassist Doug Wimbish, replacing Muzz Skillings. The seasoned Tackhead veteran's bass is less prominent overall, but shines on the moody highlight 'Nothingness'. Vernon Reid's guitar work, while still spectacular, is more subdued compared to previous releases, demanding closer listening to appreciate its intricacies. Tracks like 'Postman' and 'This Little Pig' feature Reid's intense riffs, complementing the album's darker themes. For many fans of the band, Stain reaches the heights of their previous albums Vivid or Times Up in the way it makes a statement with the evolving times'.

Review: Living Colour's Time's Up (1990) stands as a powerful sophomore effort that remains deeply relevant. Following the success of Vivid (1988), the band sought to expand their funk rock sound while addressing pressing social issues. The result is an album both musically impressive and lyrically poignant. The title track, 'Time's Up,' showcases Corey Glover's soaring vocals, delivering urgent messages about environmental and social decay. Tracks like 'History Lesson' and 'Pride' tackle the African-American experience, using samples and lyrics to confront historical injustices and cultural appropriation. 'Type' and 'New Jack Theme' examine stereotypes and the glamourisation of drug dealing, respectively, while 'Someone Like You' reflects on lost innocence in urban landscapes. Musically, the album defies genre constraints, blending hardcore, jazz, soul, and hip-hop elements. 'Love Rears Its Ugly Head' stands out with its jazz blues vibe, while 'Elvis is Dead' features a guest appearance by Little Richard, critiquing the idolisation of Elvis Presley. The album's hopeful moments, such as 'Solace of You' and 'This Is The Life,' urge listeners to embrace life and strive for positive change. Time's Up is a testament to Living Colour's musicianship and social consciousness. Its timeless relevance is bittersweet, highlighting enduring societal issues, yet, it remains a musical marvel and a call to action, urging listeners to reflect, reassess and inspire progress.

Review: Taking influence from death metal, hardcore punk, jazz fusion, speed metal and hip hop - a heady brew of noises if ever there was one - Mudvayne pretty much invented 'math metal' when they landed L.D. 50. Listen hard and you can hear shades of Pearl Jam, King Crimson, Alice In Chains and Obituary. Listen harder still and you'll catch hues of Motley Crue, Porcupine Tree and Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. To say L.D. 50 was a brave record would be understating things, then and 24 years after its initial release we can say the same things with similar confidence. Formed from what band member Matthew McDonough termed 'number symbolism', a process of pairing riffs with lyrics based on their thematic similarities, it's a fascinating record technically, but that never overshadows the impact of the tracks themselves.

Review: Originally released in 2011 as follow up to 2008's stellar career height Watershed, the tenth full-length from Swedish progressive death metal legends Opeth marked a notable turn, which the members had been desiring to take for some time. Heritage would be their first album since 2003's melancholic Damnation to completely eschew vocalist/guitarist/primary songwriter Mikael Akerfeldt's signature death growls, yet this decision wasn't so much in service of this one particular project as had been so in the past. Rather, this was the sign that the Scandinavian death metal elements of their core sound were ready to be laid to rest in favour of an embrace of the 70s prog rock the members grew up idolising. Drawing on the likes of Genesis, Yes and Rush, whilst allowing Akerfeldt's smooth cadence to lead the pieces, this is vintage, jazzy, complex yet undeniably groovy retro progressive rock of the classic era, complete with fuzzed out guitar lines, bizarre time signatures and an abundance of Hammond organ. Somewhat maligned by some of the fanbase while others lauded the brave and natural change in direction, this style would become the standard Opeth sonic aesthetic up until 2024's latest album The Last Will & Testament, which saw a return to their heavier death metal origins.

Review: Originally released in 2010, the absurd yet aptly titled Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls & The Systematic Dehumanization Of Cool would mark the fourth solo full-length from White Zombie mastermind turned horror filmmaker Rob Zombie, while this would notably be his first time crafting an album with a fixed lineup stable as opposed to previous projects where an ever revolving cast of musicians would make minor contributions. Delayed due to Zombie's own preoccupation with finishing film production on Halloween II, the end result served as a venomous, banging return to form complete with southern-tinged grooves and sultry Americana folk-horror grunge. The album's layout is also a major point of discussion as Zombie reliably leafed through his rolodex of horror maestros to enlist the help of artists Dan Brereton (creator of Nocturnals), Alex Horley (Image Comics and DC Comics) and David Hartman (storyboard artist) to help create the album artwork, while British horror/sci-fi/steampunk artist Sam Shearon aka 'Mister Sam Shearon' (artwork for Godhead, Ministry, Slayer, and even Clive Barker) also made vital contributions. Reissued by the astute folk over at Music On Vinyl, this newly numbered pressing arrives on a very fitting 180 gram audiophile 'Dracula' red & black marbled vinyl LP, complete with an additional four page booklet of artwork from the aforementioned alumni.

Review: If you've ever heard Rob Zombie's account of why his parents left their life with a travelling carnival, taking their two young sons with them, then his obsession with gore and visceral horror begins to make sense. Shots fired, people's faces being smashed apart with hammers. A full blown riot complete with burning tents. A cinema-worthy redneck vision of a hyperlocal apocalypse. Of course, his love of blood and guts and the undead has evolved since then, with a slew of cult movies behind him, not to mention all those huge album successes that came beforehand, both with and without the band that catapulted him into the spotlight, White Zombie. Hillbilly Deluxe 2 is his fourth solo LP, and the first to be recorded with his full touring band, as oppose to session musicians. It's loud. It's heavy. It's unequivocally Rob Zombie.

Review: Tad's Inhaler emerges as a hidden gem in the grunge landscape, a powerhouse album that deserves far more recognition. Produced by J Mascis, its grunge-meets-metal sound is relentless, filled with saturated riffage and infectious melodies that rival the genre's biggest hits. Tracks like 'Throat Locust' and 'Grease Box' pack punchy, memorable choruses that should have propelled Tad to fame alongside their peers. Despite its quality, Tad's rise was thwarted by a mix of overlooked promotion and, ironically, political correctness, exemplified when their label dropped them over a controversial promotional poster. This reissue on magenta vinyl serves as a timely reminder of their legacy, showcasing the album's enduring appeal and its rightful place in the grunge canon. Tad Doyle's uncompromising vision and the raw, unapologetic spirit that defined the genre's golden era is harnessed here in this one album to enjoy.

Review: The Best of Warrant compiles 16 defining tracks from the band's early years, pressed on limited 180-gram red audiophile vinyl with a numbered double vinyl format and an insert. This collection revisits the glam-metal era with hits from their first three albumsiDirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, Cherry Pie and Dog Eat Dogioffering fans a nostalgic journey through Warrant's prime. Favorites like 'Down Boys', 'Heaven', and the iconic 'Cherry Pie' capture the band's energetic hooks and singalong choruses. The acoustic version of 'I Saw Red' highlights a more introspective side, while deep cuts like 'Thin Disguise', a Cherry Pie B-side, add exclusivity. Their hard-hitting cover of Queen's 'We Will Rock You', from the Gladiator soundtrack, showcases a grittier edge. The inclusion of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' and 'Mr. Rainmaker' underscores their storytelling flair, while tracks like 'Big Talk' and 'Sure Feels Good to Me' keep the energy high. Originally released in 1996, this greatest hits package is still thee best collection of their best.

Review: Worlds Collide Tour is the sixth live album from Dutch symphonic metal legends Within Temptation, taken from their largest home-country show to date on November 29, 2022 at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, marking the band's first time headlining the iconic venue. A co-headline tour with Evanescence, the run would be delayed four times due to COVID before finally taking flight across 2022, with the incomparable Amy Lee even joining Sharon den Adel for a powerhouse performance of 'The Reckoning' each night. Boasting a career-spanning catalogue up to and including 'Entertain You' taken from last year's latest full-length Bleed Out before the album had even been announced.
