Review: Qu'ran Goodman, Taji Goodman and Tarik Dawson are Da Youngsta's, a hardcore hip hop outfit active from 1992 and central to the genre's development through the nineties, most often on EastWest Records America. 'Be Great' is a brand new 2020 single that has lush piano work bringing warmth and soul, and slow motion, gently rotating and spacious drums sinking you into a stoned groove. The rhymes are slowed and stretched to match and the whole tune has an aspirational mood that permeates you're being. 'Be Great 2' is continuation that seals the deal.

Review: Cute 7" here featuring two very different but equally fantastic soul sounds. Lisa Stansfield's 'Eight Three One' is a sleek outing full of her signature smooth vocals over a gentle but compelling groove. It embodies an effortless mix of pop and r&b while Stansfield's rich tone elevates it to another level. On the flip side, Gloria Gaynor's 'This Love Affair' brings the energy with her famously powerful delivery and disco-infused sound making this one a real dance anthem. Its combination of catchy melodies with a heartfelt narrative of love and longing means it delivers on more levels than one and together, both tunes offer a fine balance of danceability and emotional depth.

Review: Jackie Wilson, known as "Mister Hitmaker," delivered 50 chart singles during his remarkable 20-year solo career with Brunswick Records. 'It Only Happens When I Look at You' stands out as a feel-good, upbeat floor-filler showcasing Wilson's unparalleled soul vocals. Originally recorded by Aretha Franklin in 1975 for her album You, Jackie's more energetic rendition became a Northern Soul favourite. Released in the UK in 1977, it was Wilson's final 45 and never saw a U.S. release. It is hard to find an OG but this pressing on on-sided white label is a god way to add it to you collection.
