acid8 is an 8Bit bass-line synthesizer with a revisited sound and interface.

MKIII has been rethought from the ground up. The filter has been replaced with an new all digital one, the handling has been redesigned for more immediate handling and many other real time features have been added including transposition automation, filter wobbler, stutter and vinyl spin-down effects.

The synth engine now has dual oscillators allowing fat and harmonized sounds.

acid8 MKIII offers the same features as its slimsynth uAcid8 counterpart, but with the addition of hardware MIDI and analog sync in and out connectivity and packed in a rugged metal case.

A vst plugin is available to easily take control of the synth's parameters.

Q:The briefly LEDS go out when I stop the sequencer - is something wrong?

A:This is normal and occurs when the memory is updated (a few seconds after the sequencer is stopped when a change has been made).

At the heart of BlastBeats is a vintage FM chip called YMF-262 also known as the OPL3 chip & previously found in computer sound cards of the early 90s.

These chips were notoriously hard to program and were rarely used to their full potential. However, they can produce surprisingly rich beautiful and utterly dirty sounds with a bit of exploring...

Notes: Still based on 80s games console circuits, this second-generation model of the unique Twisted Electrons FM synth gives more freedom to try out different chips. Same gritty sound and hands-on control.

Supplier's Notes:
This updated version is identical in appearance and functionality but will include a pair of YM3438 chips instead of the YM2612. The YM3438 is a variant of the YM2612 that is identical in functionality and was featured in the Sega Megadrive II. The circuit layout has also been updated to grant access to the FM chips with minimal disassembly.

Indeed the chips are now socketed (removable) and accessible by removing the bottom panel.

This allows you to install alternate FM chips (like the YM2612, modern alternatives or even custom sound chips).

You can also mix different versions of FM chip as there are 2 slots that can be configured individually.

MEGAfm MKII features the same audio circuitry and analog distortion as the MKI, as a result both chips sound very similar inside of MEGAfm.

The firmware will work identically on both versions.
