Review: UKG and dubstep originator Benny Ill launches Good 4 Ya with two exceptional originals and two equally heavyweight remixers. "Sugar" is as sweet as it sounds; spacious, laced with Chicago style house chords and a sexy sense of hypnosis before man like Zed Bias enters the fray and murks up the groove with a 2001-era squelchy bass and a bit of crushed break for good measure. Flip for the horsepowered 4x4 jam "Triple S". Thumping relentlessly into the light with more US-flavoured synth work, it's a tune you could just as easily imagine in Shelter back in the early 90s as you could in FWD in the early 2000s and any era since. The mighty El-B closes the show with more of a darker two-step twist while retaining the jazzy pep of the chords. Four cuts, three bonafide originators, one essential record.

Review: The campaign for real, modern UKG continues unabated over at Instinct, as another crew of like-minded bassbin botherers step up with their own fresh takes on the 2-step sound. Pinder is super speedy and tight as you like with "Forever", while Instinct regular 0113 gets freaky with the subtly tripped out "Hard Lines". Zac Stanton is perhaps the stand out turn on this 12" with the absolutely surefooted and sharply soulful "Stop Tellin Me". Holloway comes in strong on the B2 though, channeling that impeccable Ghost sound for the stripped and spooky "Places To Be". Classy club gear throughout, but especially on that B side.

Review: Albuquerque's finest outpost for purist garage house, Plastik People, continues to mine the classics on the seventh volume of its Collections sub label. First up is the unmistakable class of Zed Bias with "Take You There", a track which represents the garage legend getting into a more housed up frame of mind. Then it's over to F.A.Z.E 1 to keep the pressure up with the heated diva choppage of "Wanna Touch Me" before Judas' "Play A Little Something" takes things deeper but no less bumping. This is an essential package for anyone craving some under the radar gems from the history of 90s garage house.
