Cliques - "AUT" (6:30)
Fracture - "Excalibur" (4:37)
Youngsta & Distance - "Track 5" (5:38)
Biome - "Closed Minds" (6:06)
Review: The Allstars compilation series from Tempa has proved a fine litmus test of the UK underground since it was launched in the heady early days of dubstep circa 2003. An eighth volume rounds out Tempa's 2015 business and this broadly diverse selection is proof enough that bass music is in fine health. Following his superb debut LP for Tectonic, Acre opens the doublepack with the stuttered, swung sound design of "Messages", and from here Tempa run the gamut of the UK bass scene. Epoch lays down raw and doomy steppa vibes with "The Vile", Cliques offers up futuristic footwork of "Aut" whilst both Youngsta & Distance and Biome bring the 140BPM heat.

Goldfinger (4:53)
Silverware (6:08)
Review: Long time mates but first time collaborators, Ago and Boofy link up for this exception doublet on Innamind. Two sides, two very different vibes; 'Goldfinger' is all about that spacious dubby stalk and prowl. Laced with all manner of trippy textures, it's already been a major missile at Innamind's recent bashes with System. Flip for something more of a post UKG flavour; the rattling upbeat 'Silverware'. Brash skippy drums and heaving emotions - this is already a massive tune. Grab it while you can!

Akcept - "Control Tower" (4:39)
Bukkha & Halcyonic - "What's In A Dub" (4:15)
Review: Lion Charge live up to their name and march into the new year with serious intent. Another split-sided release plunging into the depths of the exciting new generation, both sides carry a distinct vibe. Akcept fires out the orders over a relentless but stately 4/4, sweeping horns and shimmering dub effects on "Control Tower". Flip for "What's In A Dub", a much more minimal dubbed-out percussive skanker from the US and UK combo Bukkha & Halcyonic. Warm, authentic and limited; the charge is on.

Brown Walls (parts 1 & 2) (5:01)
Review: A year has passed since Visceral Vibrations last shook our soul with Hysee's "Circular Dispute", but US indie returns with an absolute peach of a 12" from Turin's rootsical professor Babe Roots. "Spiritual Connection" swaggers with a swampy trippy groove that offers caverns of space for Baba Ras's spoken word sermon. "Brown Walls" is a game of two halves as part one sets the ambient mystic scene before part two ignites with broadsword kicks shudder with the perfect amount of reverb. Feel the vibrations.

BAR Theme (Wolf Muller remix) (5:56)
Anjali Reverse (Pharaohs remix) (5:59)
Dexy's Alrobe (Orson remix) (5:36)
Adios (Diva remix) (7:12)
Review: Italic has been representing the electronic scene in Cologne and surrounding areas since before the turn of the century, playing house to stylistically ambiguous outfits such as Kreidler, Stabil Elite and the many different projects of Stefan Schwander. Last year saw Italic usher in the BAR project of Stabil Elite's Lucas Croon and Christina Irrgang, with their self-titled LP turning out a sharply informed blend of new wave, synth pop and the finest in German kosmische traditions. To accompany the album, Italic have called on a cast of artists specifically split between Dusseldorf and Los Angeles to remix BAR. Pharoahs take "Anjali Reverse" and turn it into a gently lilting Balearic vignette, while noted German dubstepper Orson nudges "Dexy's Alrobe" into a spacious half-step chiller. Diva Dompe, daughter of Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins no less, creates a bewitching version of "Adios" that sounds beamed straight out of Sunday morning, but for pure flair and unmistakable groove Wolf Muller's take on "BAR Theme" has us especially excited!

Jak'd Freq (A Made Up Sound) (Acid bonus)
Review: Basic Soul Unit follow up their Tuff Luv EP with a stellar package of "Jak D Freq" from Dave Huismans, aka A Made Up Sound. The Dutchman, best known for his productions offerings under his 2562 moniker, kicks off with the Puur Natuur mix, which strips the jacking original into a mechanical, dubbed out affair. His acid rework creates a smorgasbord of crunchy beats, squelchy basslines and general motorik goodness.

Review: Bassnectar really can't do anything wrong. Leading the bass game in the US long before Skrillex could even talk, he continues to set his own agenda and buck all trends. This Lupe Fiasco hook-up was the title track from his latest album but, naturally, he's switched the flip and served up new versions for the vinyl. The previously unreleased "What" flips the switch even further with rattling breakbeats and a neck-snapping rave hook! Oh and there's bonus beats too. Everyone's a winner.

Review: From Croydon orginator Benga's dubplate smasher, to rising Bristol talent Komonazmuk's sharp as razor production, from the West London

for his d&b productions but making waves with in dubstep, and a deep dark Youngsta styled roller from The Others.

Short Stay (4:13)
Review: Bandulu strike again! This time with fellow kindred system spirit Bengal Sound. Two more totally disarming, otherworldly experiments, if you've just returned from Outlook then you'll already know what damage these are causing. "Never Mind" warms up with graveyard stroll before opening up into a strange shimmering organ riff that doesn't quite sound as if it's made on this planet. "Short Stay" meanwhile twists up the percussion and drum arrangements, making them almost breathe with trippy toxicity and a wooziness you just can't find in any other style of music. One of a kind and already teased out a few months ago. This new batch won't last long.

Coroners (3:23)
Review: Fresh in the chem trails of his Bandulu release, the inimitable Bengal Sound crash lands back into our psyches with his disarming, not-of-this-world take on 140 music. "Young Skeleton" arrives just in time for Halloween, scaring the dickens out of us with its warped humanised tones, dusty atmospheres and distant chimes. "Coroners" takes us from the graveyard to the morgue... But with these hazy arpeggiated trinkles and eerie shimmers are we stepping towards the light or simply waking up? That's for you to work out.

Pablo (3:44)
Review: Last seen blowing us kisses on Pearly Whites, the London deepsmith touches down on White Peach with four fittingly juicy bass jams. "Wushu Hands" flickers with eastern instrumental elements over a tightly rolled jitter-prone kick/snare combo, "2 Worlds" strips us right back to our undergarments with only a spacious drum arrangement and groaning bassline to keep us warm, "Silence Soundboy" is a beautifully simple bassline affair where the low end is given lavish expanses of room to roam and mutate. Finally "Pablo" pays tribute with eerie cinematic textures, weeping lead lines and a wicked sense of unease. Sound.

Hurt Me (4:42)
Review: A phenomenal double A right here from Bengal Sound as he returns with his first new material since 2022. As always with this sleek moustachioed artist, the wait is definitely worth it. 'Red Diamond' weaves and waves with a woozy harmonic that spirals in a classic emotional arpeggio that builds on every 32. 'Hurt Me' has a similarly alluring pull into its universe but with added string samples. All hooky and poignant and played in chords that have a strange disarming harmonic. The only hurting will be if you miss this 12".

Eighteenhundred (15:51)
Apatheia (6:52)
East (7:53)
Review: German producer Bhed takes charge of the ninth EP on the vital Trusik label. His mastery of ambient, dub, techno depths and bass weight are all present and correct here, never more so than on the fantastic opener "Eighteenhundred". Taking up the whole of one side of wax, it is more than deserving of that indulgence as it slowly trips through floating pads, icy hi hats and supple rhythms that soothe the mind, body and soul. "Apatheia" is a more edgy track which is just as cavernous but has you looking over your shoulder, and closing cut "East" is a pure and dreamy dub beauty.

Never Listen (4:39)
Review: Biome's at the top of his game with this new EP on Deep, Dark & Dangerous, which is the label's first of the year. It's a masterclass in dark dubstep wizardry that is expertly put together across four compelling tunes. Opener 'The Joker' is a haunting tune with a whispered vocal and cavernous grooves. The icy hits are to die for and the low end wobble is irresistible. 'Boxed' then gets heavy with more crashing hits and fizzing, dystopian synths. There is plenty of weight in 'Monster' and its poised drums and big drops and last of all 'Never Listen' is a fine example of tension and release that keeps you locked.

Two Way
Review: It's becoming more and more apparent throughout 2012 that Biome isn't human. He's a blooming machine! There's not been a month this year when he hasn't delivered at least one deep, pensive slice of darkness, be it on Macabre Unit, Smokin Sessions, Osiris or New Moon. Back on the ever-reliable Blackbox he's served up something of a bumper package. Five tracks in total, his balance of stark atmospherics and gruff subs is in full effect. The delicate shades of piano and synth-laced light of "Inner Mind", the subtle croaks and groans of the EP's title track "Two Way", the intricate tribal drum patterns and woozy pads of "First Light"... Biome's production line is running more efficiently than ever. Machine music has never sounded so good.

Review: Longstanding Manchester murk merchant Biome returns to Deep Heads' abyss-peering On The Edge series with three more timeless constructions: "Turn" taps into his mystical UKG palette with lingering percussive rolls and dreamy late-2000s synth strikes, "Remembrance" is a loose-jointed hat-tip to proper deep house with its velvet chords and jazzy shuffle while "Niagra" closes the show on a pacey tech tip that wouldn't have gone amiss on Moving Shadow in the mid 90s. Don't look down.

Hold On
Review: Patrick Holt aka Biome returns to Dubstep For Deep Heads with a raucous three-tracker! Although categorised as a dubstep producer, Biome is really much more than that and his tracks contain a distinctive air of tribalism, where percolating percussion meets prophetic chanting. "Constant", for example, sees the producer blending waves of acoustic instruments together with broken beats, while "Hold On" takes a 4 Hero kinda beat and spins it around gorgeous atmospherics and stripped-down low-ends. Tip!

Review: Following on from the monstrous rib-shaking beast from Czech Republic's very own ANS, another future dub creator makes for his debut 12" on Studio Rockers.
London based frequency tweaker Bionics steps up to the table with three bassbin quaking excursions. First up 'Dubcore' busts out the speakers commanding
mind and body from the off, robot vocals get warped and meddled into the mix as twisted synthesizers are pushed to the limits. As the bass rears its ugly head,
old skool jungle soaked snares weave their way in. Next up the infectious groove of 'Feist' comes along, pounding drums and vox stabs mesh in and out as
haunting pads heighten the intensity! Completing the outing with the low slung vibes of 'Kafka' Bionics shows his true versatility in sound design.

Review: Blind Prophet & Ishan Sound come together for their first pan-atlantic collaboration here in what is a fine return to the ZamZam label. The pair first met in Portland in 2019 and so it's good to finally have some sounds to get stuck into from their meeting of minds. 'The Labyrinth' kicks off with hefty and stepping drum rhythms that are overlaid by bright synth lines and mystic flutes. The interloping melodies and a menacing bassline finish it in style. On the flip, things get much more dark with 'Minotaur Dub' which is a shadowy world of refracting drums and oodles of reverb and echo. There is a predatory sense to the rhythm that never lets up as fizzing bass pries every deep into the dead of night.

'Billy Brandon' sets the scene with a classic bouncer sample the older heads will probably recognise. It's backed up by a beautiful range of flavours... 'Motto' is all about the woozy, wavy modernist wobbles, 'Smoog' brings that slinky, sleazy funk like Silkie while 'Ocean Floor' sweeps us clean with pure emotion. Review: This 12" not only marks the debut of Crystal Recordings, but also hyped duo Bloodklart Fiyah Mandem, AKA experienced grime producers JFO and Sativa. The Manchester-based pairing hits the ground running with title track "Gully Side", an impressively intoxicating fusion of deep dubstep rhythms, grime attitude, spooky synthesized strings and speaker-rattling sub-bass posturing. They impressively mix things up on superior flipside "Distant Riddim", where an exotic, snaking melody line wraps itself around a stabbing sub-bass pattern and razor-sharp grime beats. Throw in occasional MC vocal samples, and you have a weighty concoction that's as musically inspiring as it is floor-friendly.

Blood Petal Roses (Sunken Foal remix)
Review: Camden based producer and Juno favourite Blue Daisy hooks up with Anneka for a superb double vinyl EP on Black Acre. "Raindrops" comes in like a cross between Massive Attack and Burial, with Anneka's ethereal vocals beneath a subterranean crackle. The more upbeat, almost tribal percussion on "Blood Petal Roses" becomes overpowered by a dread-like atmospherics - powerful stuff. Hugely talented Spanish producer John Talabot gets on the remix, bringing in some wonderfully treated piano chords and giving the vocals an angelic sound on "Raindrops", before a house beat kicks in to give the track some dancefloor sheen. Sunken Foal then rounds off the package with a downtempo reimagination of "Blood Petal Roses". Top release.

Review: Bunker and Rygby collide with Riko Dan and Luciferian for two slabs of premium 140. "W.O.R.K" rolls up its sleeves from the off. Sporting serious fire bars from Riko, the message is clear - if you want something you've got to work for it. "British" has a more sobering note as Luciferian paints an honest picture of the UK and its many many frustrating foibles. Also included are two exceptional instrumentals that carry serious weight even without the MCs doing damage on them. Vinyl-only, don't sleep on this.
