Traktor 2 Bible (English edition): Digital DJing With Traktor Pro 2, Traktor Scratch Pro 2, Traktor Duo 2 & Traktor Scratch Duo 2
Cat: 419082 Rel: 07 Apr 11

Book provides answers to questions for Traktor newbies and covers features for experienced users via practically oriented approach and tutorials with explanations (374 pages, paperback, black & white)
Notes: In the two years since the first edition of Traktor Bible was published, the Traktor Bible has become the de-facto standard reference for digital DJs using Native Instruments Traktor. Thousand of readers worldwide (including the R&D departments of some well-known controller manufacturers) use Traktor Bible to learn Traktor, for troubleshooting purposes, and to create customized controller mappings.

UK magazine Future Music reviewed the Traktor Bible 2nd edition and rated it with 9/10.

The Traktor 2 Bible is the practically oriented compendium covering all aspects of digital DJing with Traktor Pro 2, Traktor Scratch Pro 2, Traktor Duo 2 and Traktor Scratch Duo 2. The book provides answers to questions that Traktor newbies are faced with and it also covers features that experienced users may struggle with. The selection and the weighting of the topics were strongly influenced by research in the Traktor user forum on the Native Instruments website. This was to make sure that the issues that prey large on the minds of Traktor users are covered in detail and that useful solutions can be provided.

The Traktor 2 Bible uses a proven practically oriented approach. In the Traktor Bible all information regarding one topic is brought together in one chapter and things are explained from a practical point of view. This includes documenting the MIDI commands that are needed for automating the workflow.

For example, the chapter covering cue points and loops describes how cue points and loops are set and stored in the Traktor user interface. Additionally, the same chapter contains all information about the MIDI commands of the presented features. This approach makes it very easy to map the necessary functions to the keyboard or a MIDI and HID controller.

Several chapters contain tutorials with step-by-step explanations of the more complicated Traktor features. Many How-To sections show how things are done in the Traktor user interface and how they can be implemented via MIDI mapping.

The Book Of Drexciya Vol 1
Cat: 772332 Rel: 21 May 20

78 page graphic novel- hardback book
Notes: Tresor is pleased to announce the Drexciyan journey's continuation with the release of The Book Of Drexciya, Vol. 1, a graphic novel which covers the first 5 vivid chapters of this powerful mythology, a crucial Afrofuturist work.

African pregnant women thrown o the slave ships gave birth underwater to amphibious creatures. They could breathe as they did in their mothers' wombs, they had webbed hands and feet and became the Drexciyan wave jumpers: great warriors of the abyss. Revealed in the inner sleeve notes of The Quest (1997), through a map of the diasporic black culture, Drexciya illustrated four phases: The Slave Trade, Migration Route of Rural Blacks to Northern Cities, Techno Leaves Detroit, Spreads Worldwide, and The Journey Home (Future). It introduces the very creatures and warriors found in these pages, such as Wavejumpers and Deep Sea Dwellers. The return home is of destination future, where lays the population of their abyss.

Follow the story of the first Drexciyan, his subaquatic birth, growing up in the caves of Ociya Syndor, later to become Drexaha, the empire's first king. Get introduced to Dr. Blowfin, Master of Alchemy and Quantum Genetics, who masterminded Drexciyan computer systems and network, based on Genetic Intelligence and DNA matrix systems. Hear the story of the birth of the wavejumpers, the mightest warriors of Drexciya. Enter Bubble Metropolis, thriving with its central command, aquabahns and aqua wormhole gateways to the cephalopod-like oceanic Cruisers.

Authored by Abdul Qadim Haqq and Dai Sato, it features the art of Haqq, Leo Rodrigues, Alan Oldham, Hector Rubilar, Leonardo Gondim, Daniel Oliviera and Milton Estevam. Haqq's legendary concept imagery associated with the Detroit techno community and beyond for almost 30 years and his contributions to the mythology at the time of conception makes him uniquely positioned to lead this endeavour. Dai Sato is most known for his screenwriting for animes Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.

This project comes with the full support of living Drexciya member Gerald Donald and Helen Stinson, the surviving mother of James Stinson.

Jackson C Frank: The Clear Hard Light Of Genius
Cat: 554319 Rel: 05 Nov 14

250 page paperback book detailing the life of musician Jackson C. Frank
Notes: The story of Jackson C. Frank is tragic. The victim of a school fire in his youth, struggling with homelessness and mental illness throughout his life, half-blinded in old age before his death in 1999, Frank met continuous obstacles. And yet he enjoyed a shining moment with the release of Jackson C. Frank on Columbia Records in 1965. The album would go on to be seen as one of the greatest folk albums of the decade - maybe of all time - and its opening track "Blues Run the Game" has become a standard covered by hundreds.

Jim Abbott's book is the result of years of research piecing together evidence, relations and apocryphal stories from Frank's life. It is also part memoir, as Abbott cared for Frank through the final decade of his life. Their friendship was fraught with difficulties, which Abbott portrays with the honesty of a journalist. In doing so, he draws a portrait of a uniquely gifted songwriter, blessed with talent and besotted by demons. At 250 pages, Abbott's memoir shows a flawed and caring individual whose struggle was best depicted in his songs.

Following the release of Jackson C. Frank: The Clear, Hard Light of Genius, Ba Da Bing will release three volumes of Jackson C. Frank: The Complete Recordings in early 2015, compiling work from throughout his life, including unreleased material.

Mechanical Fantasy Box: The Homoerotic Journals Of Patrick Cowley
Cat: 747801 Rel: 11 Nov 19

Journals of Patrick Cowley, with illustrations by Gwenael Rattke
Notes: Mechanical Fantasy Box is Cowley's homoerotic journal, or as he called it, "graphic accounts of one man's sex life." The journal begins in 1974 and ends in 1980 on his 30th birthday. It chronicles his slow rise to fame from lighting technician at The City Disco to crafting a ground-breaking 16-minute remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" to performing with Sylvester at the SF Opera House. Vivid descriptions are told of cruising in '70s SoMA sex venues to primal highs in Buena Vista Park and composing pornophonics in his Castro apartment. The entries are introspective and show a very out-front, alive person going through the throes of gay liberation post-Stonewall.

French-born artist and Berlin resident Gwenael Rattke works in collage, silkscreen, photography and Xerox graphics. Rattke's collage works borrow from the visual codes of the 60s and 70s. Intricate, ornamental and excessive, they present "an imagined past fired with beauty and sexual freedom." For this book Rattke created 25 original illustrations inspired by selected entries, 3 street maps documenting locations mentioned herein and 4 collages of photos, ephemera and notes Patrick stuffed inside the journal. We've included Patrick's doodles too, as well as introductory essays by Josh Cheon, Theresa McGinley and Jorge Socarras.

Cat: 307102 Rel: 31 Mar 08

Paperback book featuring 2,500 full cover photos
Notes: If you liked the first volume of this essential book, you'll love this revised edition - because it's almost 3 times bigger, and stuffed with great new features! The book's a lifetime labor of love for Freddy Fresh - an extensive discography that's got to be the most definitive book on early hip hop we've ever seen! The vintage of the titles listed in the book is 1979 to 1994 - and as Freddy says in the preface, there's a few records listed that may fall outside the rap genre or that time span, including some disco and electro numbers - but that's okay by us! The book's got tons of label scans - plus entries listed alphabetically by label and then in order by catalog number - and this exhaustive project reads like your dream want-list for years and years to come. Plus, in addition to the label and record listings, there's appendices with old school flyer scans, top picks from DJs and producers all over the globe, lists of resources for finding records and Freddy's own personal lists for records, including his "5 star" rated records, and songs and singles arranged by topic. Walearic Disc Guide (by Shotaro Matsumoto) (Japanese text)
Cat: 749064 Rel: 30 Oct 19

paperback book
Notes: This guide book features various albums recorded & produced in Japan, ranged from Easy Listening, Mood Music, New Age, Ambient, Pops, Rock, Disco, New Wave, Movie OST till Cartoon OST. Under the supervision of Shotaro Matsumoto who is a famous store manager of Coconut Disc record shop, 10 writers introduce about 600 discs."Walearic" is a word coined by Matsumoto, connecting "Wa"(means "Japanese" in Japanese) and "Balearic" club music established in Ibiza, Spain through '00s. As a matter of fact, Walearic is not exactly the same as Balearic. Matsumto was inspired by the vague concept of Balearic which crossovers any genres, and coined the new genre Walearic under his own aesthetics.

As you may know, the demand for Japanese vinyls recorded in 70s & 80s has been rising among the collectors worldwide. This guide book will be the ultimate tool for them to dig the discs.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life: The History Of The Disc Jockey (new edition)
Cat: 411973 Rel: 19 Jan 15

Book of a knowledgeable compilation of information and an intellectual resource, introducing a complete history of DJ, the new edition of chapters covering techno, acid house, Ibiza, jungle, UK garage and cosmic disco (600 pages, paperback, black & white)
Notes: The self-styled definitive history of the humble art of spinning plates of vinyl, the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life steps up to the turntables with worthy pretensions. The work of journalists Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, who, between them, have worked on The Face, i-D, Rolling Stone and Musik, they certainly know their deep house from their speed garage. But while Last Night A DJ Saved My Life is an impressively knowledgeable compilation of information, they never quite decide whether this is an intellectual resource, a complete history, or if they're playing these records just for kicks.

So in the preface fun is poked at abstract nonsense about postmodern intertextuality and the pair thunder into well-reasoned, impassioned debate about the DJ being a modern-day shaman--pulse-racing stuff, which makes it all the more uncomfortable when it segues into an unremittingly dull chronological history of the invention of the record deck. The pace quickens with an excellent chapter on Northern Soul, and in hot pursuit follow impressive histories of the reggae, hip-hop and disco genres. But then Acid House, perhaps Britain's most important musical evolution ever, is given short shrift and techno is dismissed over a mere ten pages as house's swotty offspring. The term definitive, it seems, has been faded out of the mix.

The Last Night A DJ Saved My Life is no Bible for the penitent vinyl worshipper and its difficult chronology makes it an uncomfortable read. Still, if you think that Northern Soul records were made in Leeds and disco began with the Bee Gees, there's a wealth of knowledge here that'll put you right.

To celebrate 100 years of DJing, Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton have expanded and updated their classic account of the history of the disc jockey. The DJ was born on Christmas Eve, 1906 when Reginald Fessenden became the first person to play a record over the radio. A century later and the DJ is the central figure in popular music. From these humble talking jukebox origins to today's DJ superstars earning rock star salaries with a fanbase to match, the history of the DJ is fascinating and unpredictable. The story of these unlikely cultural icons takes the reader through the swinging sixties, through the sequinned revolution that was disco, via hip hop and house to mass-market global domination.

Bill and Frank's classic chronicle digs deep to find DJing started in 1906, the Nazis invented clubbing and Jimmy Savile should be a hero to all. Arguing that DJs not musicians are pop music's true revolutionaries, it details with love all the scenes that matter. The new edition is beefed up with entirely new chapters covering techno, acid house, Ibiza, jungle, UK garage and cosmic disco.

J Jazz: Free & Modern Jazz From Japan 1954-1988 by Tony Higgins & Mike Peden
Cat: 1010008 Rel: 04 Jul 24

A remarkable large-format book covering some of the deepest, rarest, and most innovative jazz music released anywhere in the post-war era
Notes: BBE Music is thrilled to present J Jazz: Free and Modern Jazz From Japan 1954-1988, a remarkable large-format book covering some of the deepest, rarest, and most innovative jazz music released anywhere in the post-war era. Compiled by Tony Higgins and Mike Peden, co-curators of BBE Music’s acclaimed J Jazz Masterclass Series, the book also features a foreword by Japanese jazz icon, Terumasa Hino.

This is the first time a book of this type has been has been published outside of Japan and the first anywhere of this size and scale. It is a unique collection of over 500 albums of free and modern jazz recorded and released in Japan during a period of radical transformation and constant reinvention. An era that saw Japan return from the ravages of World War Two to become a global economic power and emerge as both a technological leader and an international cultural force.

Through a unique gallery of albums, J Jazz charts the development of jazz in Japan from the first stirrings of the modern jazz scene in the mid to late 1950s and on through the hard bop and modal jazz of the 1960s. It steers the reader into the radical directions of the 1970s when free jazz, fusion, post-bop, and jazz-funk opened up a growing number of Japanese jazz artists to a new global audience before consolidating in the mid to late 1980s with a musical scene that laid the path for the contemporary jazz generation to follow.

Over 500 full-colour sleeves from many of the leading names in Japanese jazz sit alongside rare and private pressings that tell a story of constant change and musical exploration. J Jazz includes profiles of several leading record labels such as East Wind, Frasco, King Records, and Nippon Columbia as well as critical independents such as Three Blind Mice, ALM, and Aketa’s Disk. J Jazz includes interviews with celebrated jazz photographer Tadayuki Naito, and pianist Tohru Aizawa, bandleader on the totemic spiritual jazz album, Tachibana Vol 1, as well as free-jazz record collector and jazz musician Mats Gustafsson.

The book also features a chapter on albums by non-Japanese artists that only received a Japanese release, with collectible, rare, and obscure releases by figures such as Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Mal Waldron, Steve Lacy, and Art Blakey. J Jazz includes Japanese jazz charts from some of the world’s leading jazz DJs including Gilles Peterson, Toshio Matsuura, Paul Murphy, and Shuya and Yoshihiro Okino. Among the specialist content is a feature on obi strips by record dealer and Japanese jazz expert, Yusuke Ogawa, plus a special article on Japanese Blue Note albums.

Across its 300-plus pages, J Jazz includes a detailed introduction contextualising the music, tracing the story of Japan’s fascination with jazz back before the war. It also features biographical information on many of the key artists involved in shaping the post- war Japanese jazz scene including Sadao Watanabe, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Masabumi Kikuchi, Masahiko Togashi, Terumasa Hino, Yosuke Yamashita, Fumio Itabashi, Masayuki Takayanagi, Takeo Moriyama, Isao Suzuki, and many more.

Beyond Heaven: Chicago House Party Flyers From 1983-1989
Cat: 708282 Rel: 04 Dec 18

96 page book of Chicago house party flyers from the 80's
Notes: This book catalogues a collection of flyers and other house music related ephemera from the years 1983 to 1989, courtesy of Mario "Liv It Up" Luna, a DJ living in the Pilsen neighbourhood of Chicago during this time. These flyers, also called pluggers, were used for promotional purposes. They would be placed in record stores and passed out at schools and on the street to help get the word out about upcoming house music events. Although by no means encyclopaedic, this collection documents a variety of figures from Chicago's emerging house scene: first generation "kings of house" alongside the WBMX Hot Mix 5 and other lesser-known DJs at a variety of venues.

Also included in the mix are promoters, record stores, labels, and an assortment of party crews and dance groups who contributed to the growth and atmosphere of house music in Chicago. This book offers a taste of what many consider to be the best times of their lives, and for others acts as a gateway to one of greatest eras in the history of Chicago music.

96 pages, 14 × 21 cm, softcover.

Dead Moon: The Book
Dead Moon: The Book (limited 2xLP + 300 page book)
Cat: 682505 Rel: 18 Apr 19

2xLP containing Dead Moon greatest hits collection + 300 page, full colour hardback book
Notes: Dead Moon were a DIY band, active for 19 years. Singer and guitarist Fred Cole was playing music since the early 1960's - beginning his career as "Deep Soul Cole - the white Stevie Wonder", then joining the psychedelic garage rock band the Lollipop Shoppe / The Weeds. In the 70's and early 80's Fred and Toody Cole played in various punk, country and hard rock bands. In the late 1980's, they formed Dead Moon with Andrew Loomis. This band went on to become mythic and legendary. They lived by a DIY code built around superstitions and avoidance of conventional music industry pitfalls. Their story is completely unique amongst the pantheon on rock bands - a group who never sold out, never gave in and built a legacy of art and community piece by piece in a sustainable way almost unheard of. The book is a tribute to their unique aesthetic, unbelievable twisted path of a story, and roll as pioneers of the Portland music scene.

The book tells the entire Dead Moon saga in the words of the band itself. Just the voices of Fred, Toody and Andrew. It includes a complete illustrated discography of everything Fred, Toody and Andrew have released, song lyrics, and TONS of band photos, flyers, and weird ephemeral stuff. Lots of it has never been seen by the greater public. The package also includes 2 LP's of the "best of" Dead Moon - lovingly remastered from the original tapes. Very sturdy construction.

Join The Future: Bleep Techno & The Birth Of British Bass Music (by Matt Anniss)
Cat: 750622 Rel: 27 Nov 19

The history of 'bleep & bass' - 324-page paperback book by Matt Anniss
Notes: The previously untold story of British dance music's first sub-bass revolution, tracing the origins, development, impact and influence of bleep techno, and the subsequent musical styles it inspired, on UK club culture.

Since the dawn of the 1990s, British dance music has been in thrall to the seductive power of weighty sub-bass. It is a key ingredient in a string of British-pioneered genres, including hardcore, jungle, drum & bass, dubstep, UK garage and grime.

In the Join The Future book, dance music journalist Matt Anniss (Resident Advisor, DJ Magazine, Red Bull Music Academy) traces the roots, origins, development and legacy of the sound that started it all: the first distinctively British form of electronic dance music, bleep techno.

A mixture of social, cultural, musical and oral history, Join The Future reveals the untold stories of bleep's Yorkshire pioneers and those that came in their wake, moving from electro all-dayers and dub soundsystem clashes of the mid-1980s to the birth of hardcore and jungle in London and the South East.

Along the way, you'll find first-hand accounts of key clubs and raves, biographies of forgotten and overlooked production pioneers, stories of bleep outposts in Canada and the United States, and the inside story of the early years of one of electronic music's most iconic labels, Warp Records.

Based on five years of research and hundreds of hours of new interviews, the book is a radical alternative history of the rise of British dance music during the late 80s and early 90s.

About the author:

Matt Anniss is a journalist and author specializing in electronic music, DJing and club culture. He began his career on internet magazines in the late 1990s before joining the staff of IDJ Magazine as Music Editor in 2000, later becoming Editor. Since leaving the magazine in 2008 he's become a regular contributor to Resident Advisor, Red Bull Music Academy Daily and DJ Magazine, specializing in historical aspects of dance music culture.

As an author, Matt Anniss has written over 50 non-fiction books for children and young adults, including a number of "how-to" books on DJing, podcasting and music production. In 2017 he co-authored The Vinyl Owners Manual (with Patrick Fuller) for iconic British brand Haynes Publishing, which became one of the brand's best-selling titles of 2018. He is an obsessive record collector and mix maker. He lives in Bristol, England.

Freedom Rhythm & Sound: Revolutionary Jazz Original Cover Art 1965-83 (repress)
Cat: 369542 Rel: 20 Oct 09

Collection of cover artwork of jazz releases between 1965-83, with an introduction contextualising the music and artwork, plus interviews with people involved (180 pages, hardback, colour)
Notes: This is a unique collection of cover artwork of revolutionary jazz releases in the USA in the 1970s, a time of great political and social importance for African-American artists.

Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and John Coltrane loom large as self-determination, economic power and musical freedom led to artists finding new paths both musical and economic. Away from the mainstream, many of these musicians chose to take control of their economic worth by recording, releasing and distributing their own material. Thirty years later and these artefacts are a striking reflection of the time; pre-desktop publishing, pre-internet these small-run (sometimes as low as 500 copies), self-made sleeves are as iconic and historically important as the revolution of DIY culture that sprang out of punk. Soul Jazz Records have produced many releases relating to this music and this book is the first ever collection of this amazing artwork.

The book comes with a large introduction contextualising the music and artwork and relating how the music came about along with interviews with many of the people involved.

Cat: 898114 Rel: 28 Oct 22

Features interviews with Lou Reed, John Cale, Moe Tucker, Doug Yule, Nico and the most in-depth interviews ever granted by Sterling Morrison, as well as never-before-published photographs by James Hamilton
Notes: Ecstatic Peace Library are thrilled to announce Linger On by Velvets-obsessed music journalist Ignacio Julia. This sumptuous new volume features interviews with Lou Reed, John Cale, Moe Tucker, Doug Yule, Nico and the most in-depth interviews ever granted by Sterling Morrison, as well as never-before-published photographs by James Hamilton.

The book will be launched on the occasion of Sterling Morrison's 80th birthday, this August 29th [2022] inside the historic and legendary Oak Room of The Algonquin Hotel in New York City with an exhibition of James Hamilton's unseen portraits of The Velvet Underground curated by Willis Loughhead with Ecstatic Peace Library.

The author of Linger On is an internationally respected and trusted Velvet Underground chronicler; he is the Barcelona-based rock n roll editor Ignacio Julia, who also published books in Spanish and English on American post-punk band Sonic Youth. When members of The Velvet Underground toured in Spain Ruta 66 journalist Ignacio Julia was usually among their entourage, front row centre at curtain call, backstage after the gig, in attendance of afterparties and sometimes discovered in the band's hotel rooms until lobby call.

Since 1985 Ignacio Julia has obsessively followed the band's career, interviewing and wining and dining the members over the years, and publishing countless articles, intimate profiles and books in Spanish and English on The Velvet Underground. He is known among international Velvets fan clubs as one of the most dedicated chroniclers and archivists of studio bootlegs, live concert recordings, writings and poetry to the extent that even the band's own members refer to his knowledge for fact-checking purposes.

Boy's Own The Complete Fanzines 1986-92: Acid House Scrapes and Capers

Notes: 'The Complete Fanzines: Acid House Scrapes & Capers' is published by DJ History. The 'Boy's Own' fanzine was, as Andy Weatherall put it, 'The village newspaper of acid house'. Started in 1986, they documented the revolution in youth culture that took London from the snootiness of rare groove to the all-in craziness of acid house. Put together by a bunch of cultural hooligans from Slough and Windsor, Boy's Own gave a voice to the suburban soulboy and the 'casual' culture of the terraces, reporting in hilarious detail the tunes, the fashions, the slang and the parties. Boy's Own was Andy Weatherall, Terry Farley, Steve Hall, Steve Mayes and Cymon Eckel; plus a lengthy cast of illustrious contributors include Paul Oakenfold (who wrote the very first Balearic feature anywhere), Norman Jay, Chris Sullivan and all the key figures of acid house. In passing, Boy's Own also became world-famous DJs, sowed the seeds for lads'-mag journalism, founded a label that defined British house, invented raving in a field... and popularised the bouncy castle.

Dancehall: The Rise Of Jamaican Dancehall Culture (reissue)
Cat: 665413 Rel: 19 Oct 17

Deluxe flexibound 10th anniversary edition
Notes: New 10th anniversary edition on Soul Jazz Books/Soul Jazz Records of this now classic large format deluxe book - the definitive photography book and essential guide to Jamaican Dancehall in the 1980s featuring 100s and 100s of amazing photographs - all with accompanying text, interviews and biographies.

'Dancehall' is an essential reference book for anyone interested in Reggae and captures a previously unseen era of musical culture, fashion and lifestyle in stunning, vibrant colour.

Dancehall is a culture that encompasses music, fashion, drugs, guns, art, community, technology, and more. Born in the 1950s out of the neighbourhood soundsystems of Kingston, Dancehall grew to its height in the 1980s before a massive influx of drugs and guns made the scene too dangerous for many. Today Dancehall remains at the centre of Jamaican musical and cultural life. From its roots in Kingston in the 1950s to its heyday in the 1980s, Dancehall conquered the globe spreading to the USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Europe and beyond.

In the early 1980s Jamaica was in the throws of political and gang violence - photographer Beth Lesser ventured where few other dared and this book is a never-before-seen record of the exciting, dangerous and vibrant world of Dancehall.

Living in Jamaica in the late 70s and early 80s she photographed and documented a cultural explosion as producers, singers, DJs and soundsystems who all made a living out of the slums of Kingston. With unprecedented access to the incredibly vibrant music scene during this period, Beth Lesser's photographs are a unique way into a previously hidden part of Jamaican culture.

Notes: Pre-order before 20 November 2020 Release date 10 December 2020 Andrew Weatherall was the acid house generation's most inspiring DJ and producer, renowned for his work on Primal Scream's epoch-defining 'Screamadelica' and his own bands Sabres Of Paradise and Two Lone Swordsmen. As a DJ he was peerless and unpredictable, helming club nights that played techno, rockabilly or music that "never knowingly exceeded 122 bpm."

Weatherall featured in seminal dance music magazine Jockey Slut many times during its lifetime. All his interviews from the publication are included within this tribute to The Guv'nor. Further articles cover the tenure of his professional life from the mid-80s to 2020. They include his beginnings at the influential Boy's Own fanzine, his DJ sets at landmark nights Shoom and Sabresonic, and the plethora of ventures he still had running including the Woodleigh Research Project, A Love From Outer Space and festival Convenanza.

Jockey Slut magazine ran from 1993 - 2004. The influential club culture publication was started by John Burgess and Paul Benney as a self published Manchester based fanzine. It became a monthly when it moved to London in 1999. Jockey Slut was notable for being more music-centric, left-field and irreverent than other dance music magazines. It also bagged some real exclusives during its tenure giving first ever interviews to The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and The Avalanches.

Included in the 160 page, perfect bound book edited by founding Jockey Slut editor John Burgess is:

Raving '89 (book)
Cat: 364968 Rel: 27 Aug 09
Notes: DJ History presents this unique book, 'Raving '89' which captures like never before the revolutionary atmosphere of the early rave scene. Acid house exploded in London and Manchester in 1988; then in 1989 the whole country 'got on one' and went raving. The second book from DJhistory.com is a collection of amazing photographs from this explosive year. 'Raving '89' takes you through a year of suburban raves, with 200 fantastic images collected together as if a single dramatic night: grimy warehouses, phones the size of bricks, smiles, hugs, lasers and dungarees; lives changed, faces lost in music, casualties, friends and general mayhem; with rogues and wrong'uns lurking in the corners, and more than a few crimes against fashion. As well as Gavin's unique pictures, the book is sprinkled with great stories from him and his brother Neville of the momentous year when British culture changed forever. 'Raving '89' puts you in the heart of the action. If you lived through acid house, Gavin Watson's photos will give you goose-bumps; if you didn't, they're the closest you'll get.

"I'd sit and watch people. You could tell the moment like THAT! Your life's not going to be the same ever again." - Gavin Watson.

Headman aka Robi Insinna: 6 Album Artbook
Headman aka Robi Insinna: 6 Album Artbook (hand-numbered book + MP3 download code)
Cat: 548223 Rel: 22 Sep 14
Notes: Headman/Robi Insinna's Artbook Album '6' comes together with '6' digital album. It is a mix of a Fanzine and an Artbook. The outside is screenprinted 1c, the inside is 2c. Every cover is individual, so every book isAa one off art piece. The Book comes in a envelope also screenprinted on the outside. It includes a free album download code on the inside. On each page of theAbook there are Robi's images and some stills from the "Work" video. It's all designed by Robi himself.
VIDEO: http://youtu.be/P1AY8X19YVM
Artist, producer and DJ Robi Insinna aka Headman released his first album 'It Rough' in 2001. He has also released tracks as 'Manhead' and remixed the likes of Roxy Music, Gossip, Franz Ferdinand , Richard Fearless, Nitzer Ebb, The Units, Unknown Cases, Gina X and Klein & M.B.O. The new album "6" feels like the conclusion of the music he has been putting out over the years. There are many collaborations on the album, with friends and artists he has worked with over the years.
Featuring on the album are Brassica, The Emperor Machine, Red Axes, David Shaw, Sam from Gramme, Rosie from hot new Berlin Act Ballet School, Brassica, Bozzwell and Tara from It Rough fame!
The album release comes accompanied by a Fanzine like Art Book with a download code for the album, there will be 2 x 12" vinyls together with the digital and CD release. The concept is further developed in the video for the first vinyl EP which is directed by Robi and has been premiered on THUMP/VICE TV. It's a fusion of art, fashion and music, the 3 things that in Robi's eyes should always go together. VIDEO: http://youtu.be/SWkaaVEX_mk
'6' is quite an eclectic album with a strong grounding in electronica whilst also staying true to the previous output of Robi and Relish Recordings. Some tracks can sound more like post punk ESG influenced, some more like pre-detroit machine funk, and some of the vocal tracks have a more pop sensibility!
The album was produced with loads of analog equipment which gives that organic feel, but Robi always stresses that he does not want to be just Retro, but take the best from the past and use it together with the technologies from now to create something modern.
Style is always something very important for his projects, the use of old synths, guitar pedals, tape delays, drum machines or emulations, and old Vintage gear was essential to create a vintage / classy sounding album, which is also reflected in the art book and the video. The video is filled with references from the past, late 70's 80's and 90's but again with a style and taste that makes it very modern.

Cat: 661777 Rel: 01 Jan 90

Hardback book with 1000 of the best record covers from the 1960s to 1990s
Notes: Record covers are a sign of our life and times. Like the music on the discs, they address such issues as love, life, death, fashion, and rebellion. For music fans the covers are the expression of a period, of a particular time in their lives. Many are works of art and have become as famous as the music they stand for Andy Warhol's covers, for example, including the banana he designed for The Velvet Underground.

This edition of "Record Covers" presents a selection of the best rock album covers of the 60s to 90s from music archivist, disc jockey, journalist, and former record-publicity executive Michael Ochs' enormous private collection. Both a trip down memory lane and a study in the evolution of cover art, this is a sweeping look at an underappreciated art form.

Spectres: Composing Listening Volume 1
Cat: 724907 Rel: 12 Mar 19

228 page book with thread-sewn softcover, produced by Shelter Press in association with INA GRM
Notes: This book has been conceived as both a prism and a manual. Following the "traditional" arc of electroacoustic composition (listen-record-compose-deploy-feel), each of the contributions collected together here focuses in on a personal aspect, a fragment of that thrilling territory that is sonic and musical experimentation.

Although the term "experimental music" may now have be understood as referring to a genre, or even a particular style, we ought to hold on to the original use of this term, which was based more on an approach than on any particular aesthetic line to be followed. The experimental is first and foremost a spirit, the spirit of the exploration of unknown territories, a spirit of invention which sees musical composition more as a voyage into uncertain territories than as a self-assured approach working safe within the bosom of fully mapped out and recognized lands.

Go Out & Get 'Em Boy! Tales From The Wedding Present: Volume One Of The Official Autobiography by David Gedge/The Wedding Present (paperback)
Cat: 1028937 Rel: 18 Jul 24

This collected edition of David Gedge's 'memoir-in-comic-book-form' comes with forty pages of never-before-seen additional material and an introduction by Ian Rankin
Notes: The first instalment of David Gedge's 'memoir-in-comic-book-form' will be released in paperback for the first time by Scopitones books. The stories featured in this stunning 176-page, matt-laminated, graphic novel have previously only been available to readers of the tales from the Wedding Present comic book series. This collected edition comes with forty pages of never-before-seen additional material and an introduction by Ian Rankin. David has written this autobiography together with long-time musical associate Terry de Castro, and the stories are illustrated by virtuoso artist Lee Thacker. It's in chronological order, beginning with David's childhood in England and South Africa and continues up to the inception of the Wedding Present. On the way we learn about some of the romantic experiences that may have informed his writing, how he first met the legendary BBC presenter John Peel, and the true story behind the classic Wedding Present song 'My Favourite Dress'.

Reviews "An autobiography of the wedding present would be great on its own. An autobiography in beautiful graphic novel form? Even better!" Dan Vebber (writer, The Simpsons)

"This is brilliant! It's like the storyboard for a Wedding Present biopic." Marc Riley (broadcaster, BBC)

"As informative, funny and essential as David Gedge himself. Can I be in the movie when all this is franchised?" Tony Gardner (actor)

"This is the graphic novel indie music mash up that we have all been waiting for and only David Gedge could deliver. It's amazing!" Stella Creasy (member, British Parliament)

"This is a Wedding Present fan's dream come true. Pure unfiltered Gedge; the inside track on what makes him tick and anecdotes aplenty. Essential!" Mike Gayle (author)

"It's very typical of the wedding present to do an autobiography differently to everyone else... But the stunning illustrations in this book really bring David's stories to life." Louise Wener (writer, musician)
