Review: Pale Calling sees Black Truffle boss and all round experimental maven Oren Ambarchi collaborating with Kassel Jaeger and James Rushford for an album consisting of two long form compositions laid down in Paris back in 2014. Featuring killer artwork from Sunn O))) man Stephen O'Malley, and mastered by Rashad Becker, Pale Calling is aptly described as "a mysterious space of slowly cycling electronics, distracted vocal mumbles and often unidentifiable field recordings." It arrives in a busy year for Ambarchi's Black Truffle following long players from Charlemagne Palestine and improvisational trio AMM, and proves to be a delicious listen that will appeal to fans of the recent Jefre Cantu-Ledesma and Felicia Atkinson album.

Review: MCMLXV welcomes back Analog~1 for a third outing here. It is an alias of JS Zeiter and one that is reserved more for esoteric and electronica tracks following notable outings on labels such as Furthur Electronix, Meandyou and We're Going Deep. 'Mirage' kicks off with melancholic pads and dubby chords over crisp minimal drums that sink you into a reverie. That vibe continues through 'Virtual' and 'Haunted' which care both sophisticated atmospheres with subtle electro-tinged rhythms and quietly emotive pads. 'Solano' closes down with another icy and cavernous space that is filled with meaningful synth craft to make for another classy EP.

Review: More split action from STROOM, a label that has delivered some killer reissues of late. Heading up this double-feature is Icelandic producer Isar Logi Arnarsson AKA Cold, who offers us another chance to savour his 1995 Berlin Love Parade anthem "Strobe Light Network" - a 15-minute deep techno epic that boasts a lengthy ambient introduction, hushed and hypnotic grooves, undulating electronic motifs, ghostly chords and glacial, rush-inducing lead lines. Over on the flip, James Bernard takes over. "Lapis Lazuli" first surfaced on his 1997 album "Symphony For A Biomechanical Breakdown" and 22 years on it has lost none of its ghostly, otherworldly charms. A chunk of ultra-deep ambient rich in creepy melodies and psychedelic acid lines, it makes a near perfect B-side to Arnarsson's peerless classic.

Review: No, political scientist and "veil of ignorance" liberal philosopher John Rawls did not make this EP. A cursory disambiguation will reveal that it is actually the Columbus-born heavyweight hip-hop producer Jason Rawls who rigs the strings and pulleys of the J Rawls alias. Having laid down a heap of hip-hop verging on hip house productions on his very own Groove Attack Recordings since at least 2000, Rawls now marks a milestone in with the release of his very first house EP proper, through Polar Entertainment. Corralling remixes from fellow America-mpadres Tall Black Guy and Blair French, Rawls imagines a perfectly stratified future society of rousing, disco and funk-informed freakout grooves, our fave among which has to be the minor-keyed joy geyser, 'EFE'.

Review: When it comes to heavy chug, Multi Culti has always known exactly where to strike to make the most memorable or - more accurately - inescapable impact. Thomas Jackson's 'Slow Train' is just the latest case in point, then, drawing dancers and listeners alike in with its warm-hued, hypnotic synth lines, stabs and warbles in all the right places to ensure that while not that much happens, you'll be stomping about like everything was going on at once. Far from a one-track-wonder, Calypso Cult II is the label setting out all its stalls with aplomb. 'Jungle Tungle' is a strange, somewhat shrill, constantly building and percussively dominated workout that's tough and yet not actually that tough. 'Big Plastic Room' is peak time acid meets Kraut oddness, while 'Hipocampos' brings things to a beautiful close with beguiling, downtempo sludge.

Review: Sydney's electro-psychedelic-indie outfit, Jagwar Ma, drop two new mixes of their 2013 hit "The Throw" on the Multi Cut label. There's three parts in all, where the first one, Dreems Sounds Of The Universe Part 1, is made up of a delicious blend between acoustic instruments, delicate electronics and wailing vocals; the piano keys riding across those desolate soundscapes with utter class. Parts 2 and 3 enter party mode, with subtle bursts of 303 acid mixing nicely within the original track's poppy nature.

Review: Astonishingly it's been four years since we last heared from Jamie XX, who midway through the last decade seemed an unstoppable musical force of nature. This comeback 12" - a single-sided, white label affair - is therefore hotly anticipated. Happily, we can confirm that it's rather good, with the experienced producer building a fiendishly percussive groove out of layered hip-house style breaks and tribal drum hits before introducing a gargantuan bassline, speeding things up to a "Shangan" style tempo and letting loose. Throw in some bold synth lines, a few electronic bleeps and some cut-up, glassy-eyed female vocal samples and you have a future dancefloor anthem on your hands. As comebacks go, "Idontknow" is pretty special.

Review: This is a white hot new white label from Jay Glass Dubs who serves up two textbook re-workings of the 'Jungle Shuffle' tune that prepared on Italian saxophonist Laura Agnusdei's debut album Laurisilva. First comes his JGD rework which is all about the mystic flute leads that drift in and out of ear shot. Rumbling bass and broken drums are way down below to power it along, and then on the flip he offers a beatless version that has you suspended next to the slightest wisps of flute and dark drones.

Review: Kito Jempere's fourth studio album Green Monster was "a journey through love, interconnectedness and creative freedom" and it has now had some of its key tracks remixed. Cultured British veteran Ewan Pearson goes first and brings some taught bass lines and twanging synths to his rework of 'Kabwato' while the Cable Toy remix of the same cut is a bouncy piano house bumper with Afro overtones. THE DAWLESS remix of 'Strong Accent' is a hot-stepping jungle gem and last of all nu-Balearic bossman Max Essa brings plenty of downtime chill to 'The Closing Shift.'

Review: The third release from Gratone is a live remix work featuring long-time collaborators and veterans Audun Kleive on percussion and Jan Bang on live sampling. It sees the young Norwegian label explore the spaces between between jazz and the dancefloor. Kleive and Bang 'tap into something innate that moves perpendicular to the techno ethos'. A side cuts "Azmari Woman" and "Azmari Beat" respectively are jagged and angular perspectives of afrobeat. On the flip, "Model Kit" is a disjointed pattern that gets properly off the grid in the vein of Mark Fell's SND project, while "Sister Silver" explores the A side's Afro rhythms in a less interrupted fashion but getting much more multitimbral in the process.

Review: As part of a cultural exchange programme that found Floating Points and James Holden travelling to Morocco to take part in a unique collaborative week next to the pool at the Fellah Hotel. Working with Maalem Mahmoud Guinia and his band, the British artists turned in their own versions from the sessions with excellent results. Floating Points takes a delicate approach to the source material, slowly feeding in considered synth lines to accompany the traditional claps, chants and guembri. James Holden meanwhile offers up "Bania" which captures a rough and ready African production vibe that equally complements the music. Comes with 16 page booklet!

Review: And just like that, France's Kump label is born. The newly formed crew make for some pretty promising prospects if this debut EP is anything to go by, and they've started flying off our shelves with the same sort of zesty energy found across its five killers! Thankfully, this isn't yet another deep house joint and, one the contrary, it provides us with some seriously fresh strains of house music built for the next decade. Ricco's opener "Gilbert & George" is a punchy, mid-tempo pulser with a subtly acidic flow, and Pletnev's "Thunder" follows beautifully with the same sort of beat, but comparatively tamer harmonies. On the flip, Ju-Ju83 gets all sombre and industrial on "Untimely End", while "Nirvana" by Roe Deers offers a totally different sort of 'sad', and Markus Gibbs's "Dernier Souffle" manages to blend mid-90's acid with something that, well, we can't quite put our finger on...

Review: Following on from their collaborative album Indeed which dropped in 2011, Oren Ambarchi and Jim O'Rourke join forces once more to deliver the two-track epic Behold for Editions Mego. Fans of this pairing will know what to expect, as daring soundscapes fill with a multitude of sound sources carefully processed into a simmering whole, stretched out over long form running times for the ultimate immersive experience. "Behold One" revels in suspended animation as its textures very gently rise and fall, while "Behold Two" takes a more lively route towards a clanging, droning crescendo driven by organic and electronic matter.

Review: French artist Felicia Atkinson and New York-based experimentalist Jefre Cantu-Ledesma were responsible for two of the most singular albums released in 2015; the former's A Readymade Ceremony on Shelter and the latter's A Year With 13 Moons for Mexican Summer. Comme Un Seul Narcisse sees the pair collaborating to exquisite effect, drawing together some ten compositions laid down between NYC and the Alps. Issued on the increasingly intriguing Shelter Press, Comme Un Seul Narcisse represents an exercise in creativity winning over isolation; Atkinson and Cantu-Ledesma never actually met during the recording sessions and instead sent one another fragments of sound and melodies to craft a most abstract yet inviting listen.
