Review: This new release, ACID Thing, from legendary acid house man EBY pays homage to the classic acid sound while infusing it with modern twists. It has been put together across three different coloured vinyl 12"s - this is the grey, white and black splattered vinyl version - to celebrate an impressive 40 years in the game on Foxbam Inc. One cut 'Acidanus' features MC Soph, who debuted on Acid Indigestion Pt4 at age eight and now returns at 25. The EP also includes a remix of 'Eggtrip' by renowned Belgian producer Outlander and a superbly bright, arresting acid opener in the form of 'Bun Da Acid.'

Review: EBY is an acid house artist who has more than made his mark over the years. 40 years, to be exact, and to mark that rather notable occasion he is back with a special release on Foxbam Inc called ACID Thing and it comes in various different formats. This is a grey vinyl version that celebrates the classic acid sound while infusing it with a modern twist and plenty of big basslines, squelchy synths, and potent rhythms. The standout 'Acidanus' includes MC Soph who made her debut on Acid Indigestion Pt4 at just eight years old and now returns at 25. The EP also features a remix of 'Eggtrip' by renowned Belgian producer Outlander who you will likely remember from his iconic cut 'Vamp.'

Review: Ram Records' 30th anniversary reissue series continues via a fresh pressing of Andy C, Ant Miles, Mike E and Funky's sole EP as Elevation, 1993's Elevate EP. Released at a time when hardcore and jungle were about to go their separate ways, it remains one of the finest proto-jungle releases of the period. 'Make Me Right (Part 1)' is an absolute beast: a fiendishly sub-heavy affair in which bleeping lead lines, starry Detroit techno chords and warehouse ready synth stabs ride a hybrid breakbeat/jungle techno groove. Piano stabs and glassy-eyed female vocal samples come to the fore on the 'Part 2' mix, while 'Take Your Mind' is a bone-rattling slab of early jungle hedonism. Finally, 'Another Time' is a great example of the influence of bleep & bass on breakbeat hardcore.

Review: Stuart McAllister dons his Escobar guise and gives us our marching orders with these two lively hardcore homages. 'Gonna Make It Better' hits the synapses on the spot with the classic piano licks, iconic vocal stabs and hip-wriggling breakbeats. The brilliantly titled 'Vicars On Viagra' brings stiff competition. Going for more of a four-to-the-floor powerhouse groove, there are plenty of cheeky hardcore elements thrown in for good measure on the drop. Get in line for this one.

Review: Sublime retro future breaks from Keysound affiliate Etch. As suggested in the title, none of these breaks have real titles; it's just all about the crisp drum work, vast roominess and old school dynamics from the brushed drum swing of the first slice and the rubber ball bass of the second, right the way through the ghostly vocal tones and MC commands on the fourth slice, this is the sound of a man who knows his foundations inside out. Sneaker Social Club don't release anywhere near as much as they should.... But when they do you should always pay attention.
