Review: Following on from Och's epic Stops Out release for the already much talked about Autoreply offshoot Stuga Musik we return with another offering which couldn't be more relevant in the current electronic music climate. Our 2nd 12" comes from a man known as Apoena, hailing from Porto Alegre, capital of the Rio Grande Do Sul state in extreme south of Brazil.
Don't Break It (Kenny Glasgow & Jonny White remix)
Review: Having just dropped a debut album, been featured in weekend broadsheets and asked to headline the belated T Bar closing party it's fair to say Wolf & Lamb are a hot prospect right now. Zev Wolf goes solo here with "Don't Break It" - a lesson in how effective simplicity can sometimes be. Based around a soulful vocal holler, understated percussion combines with subtle acid squiggles and warm synth lines for what is a truly emotive deep house burner. On the flip Kenny Glasgow & Jonny White aka Art Department turn up the simmering heat of the original, retaining the tempo and slipping in a restrained broken beat pattern and adding some throb to the bassline. This should keep you satisfied till Crosstown Rebels unleash the musical kraken that is "Without You" by Art Department later this year.
Review: Ahead of his massively popular third album under the Caribou alias, Dan Snaith was quite generous in his praise for James Holden and regularly explained in interviews how Swim was influenced musically by the music on his Border Community imprint. It's seems natural then that Holden would be called on to provide a remix of "Bowls" which is quite rightly bound to get draped in words such as epic, grandiose and colossal. Taking up nearly all the blackness on the B Side, Holden crafts an 11 minute reimagination which rivals his legendary Nathan Fake remix for all round awesomeness. Taking elements of the already distinctive original, Holden twists and moulds them into a kaleidoscopic pattern of sounds which transcends genre pigeon holing.
