Review: Prelude is the don when it comes to the dubbier end of disco in the 80s. So many of its releases were staples of the key New York City scene at the time and they have kept their charm over the decades. 'Beat The Street' from Sharon Redd is one of them - a track doused on echo and reverb with dancing synths layered up over analogue drums, cold claps and with her fine vocals soaring high and bright. The vocal is where it's at but the paired back instrumental is also a fine groove for some retro feels.

Review: With the Mastermixes, Prelude and Unidisc Records worked together to lay down a unqiue set of remixes made for American disco singer Sharon Redd, now reissued again after an initial release in 2022. Redd's most eminent hits, including 'Can You Handle It', 'Love How You Feel' and 'Out Of Sight', are lent an increasingly intense disco-dance edge, and show off the curatorial brilliance of Redd's home Prelude Records, a legendary disco label home to artists such as France Joli, D Train and Unlimited Touch.

Review: Sharon Redd was at the heart of the Prelude sound at a time when they were on top of the world and dropping endless amounts of electronic disco heat. Her own standout hits include 'Beat The Street' which features here and lends its name to a collection of her many other still fresh tunes. Darryl Payne's production was behind some of these and this reissue comes on gatefold translucent blue and pink swirl vinyl with a special megamix mash-up of the highlights as the final tune.
