There are several standout tracks like 'Money' and 'Feeling Free' that showcase their signature sun-soaked vocals and smooth grooves. Review: It's impressive that nearly three decades on from when it was originally released, Car Button Cloth sounds suspended from time. It's a record that was released in the 90s but isn't overly indicative of a time and sits in a space of timeless alternative rock. You can file this next to R.E.M, Nirvana or even the Beach Boys. The sixth track, 'Losing Your Mind' is up there in terms of palpable tenderness with Brian Wilson's evocative style. Meanwhile, 'Something's Missing' ranks high up next to Foo Fighters' best stuff in terms of punk rock and pop melodies coming together. Elsewhere, 'Knoxville Girl' is singer Evan Dando's nod to idol Gram Parsons - a country hit infused with unhinged explosions of darkly saturated guitar. Perhaps the thing that is more indicative of the time, though, is the grunge idol fronting the band. Evan Dando's is said to have had led a drug-fueled lifestyle at the time, to the point where was reportedly arrested in Sydney airport, high on acid and bleeding, just the year before this album first came out. Despite chaos around the time of writing, Dando's talent was left impressively intact and this record is an enduring hit, worthy of revisiting in its new red vinyl form.

Review: For his new album, New York's anti-folk hero Jeffrey Lewis headed to record in Nashville with Roger Mountenot (long-time producer of Yo La Tengo, and the previous Jeffrey Lewis album Bad Wiring!). With the Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage band in-tow, the album carries on in the rambling sharp-witted, irreverent style that he's known for. Afterall with the album cover, he's nakedly re-staged The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan cover to prove he's "even more" freewhellin than Bob!, so you can understand that Lewis isn't taking life too seriously. The chorus to 'Sometimes Life Hits You' is "Ow! F*ck that hurt!". And 'Just Fun' is a playful, self deprecating ode to dating, whereby getting the jokes in about himself before someone else does he sounds stronger and more comfortable in his skin than any macho man ever would.

Review: The Libertines is a rather divisive band but we are firmly in the fan camp. It's great to have the pari of Carl Barat and Pete Doherty back working together as older, wiser men, but happily their music has lost none of the urgency it had when they were drug loving youths. They defined a specific period in UK music culture back at the turn of the millennium and are now back for more with All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, which according to frontman Pete Doherty happened "in a moment of rare peace". Lead single 'Run Run Run' has already performed well brings both lots of raw riffs, raucous energy and some of the superb songwriting they were famous for first time around.

Review: One of the most compelling avant garde groups to emerge from the UK in years, Lice's second album shows them thrillingly darting between minimalism, rock, techno and more. It's tense, paranoiac, dramatic affair throughout and sounds thoroughly artful without a hint of pastiche. Curiously, this is a concept album expressed through three movements. The first traces a child's socialisation and their later awareness of the process and its limitations. The second is about them reevaluating fundamental concepts including money, time, nationhood and language. The third is about them embracing these new ideas and the increased sense of agency they receive. It's advanced creativity for a band merely on their second album and shows immense promise for them to follow in the footsteps of experimental greats such as Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart whilst maintaining a sense of British rock.

Review: Next up on AD93 is the debut collab between singer-songwriter Marlene Ribeiro (of drone-psychedelic band GNOD) and electronic producer Shackleton, together masquerading as Light Space Modulator. A ghost-tropical ramble through what can only be described as a deterritorial comedown forest, The Rising Wave amounts to a floral, melty eight-tracker, easing up on concept in favour of a loop-breaking, mangrovey musical mood. The improv psycho-echoes of GNOD are heard in full force here - with lead shocker 'These Things' provides an especially depth-swelling burier bass down below - but Shackleton's long-honed dubstep abstractions serve to focus the mix, keeping things as beatmatchable as they need be open-ended.

Review: With their almost-sickly sweet vocals and incredibly catchy riffs, it's safe to say The Lighting Seeds were pop personified for a while - and this, their second studio album and a follow up to the acclaimed Cloudcuckooland, was right at the height of that period. One listen to opener and title track, 'Sense', should be enough to invoke memories of a bygone era in music, at least in those who were actually there, while the follow up, 'Life Of Riley', will bring back more vivid recollections thanks to that gold-standard guitar hook. Listening to this simply as a retro or nostalgic exercise isn't really fair, though. Framing Sense as a record worthy of reappraisal reveals a lot about what really captured attention and imagination at the time. These background details that add depth and resonance to otherwise relatively light arrangements betray Iain Broudie's storied track record as a studio producer.

Review: "This could stand a little more bite," The Chicago Tribune wrote of Cloudcuckooland back in 1990. Suffice to say, Greg Kot hadn't listened to enough by The Lighting Seeds before penning his thoughts on their debut album. As we all know, the Liverpudlian combination of Ian Broudie and Original Mirrors never really had much bite, and instead preferred to float on the wave of sweet and often soft indie pop. Nevertheless, despite the lack of weight and heft, The Lightning Seeds did make a big impact back in the day, with this, their debut album, even managing to bag a spot in the US Top 40. Listening to it now, Broudie's enviable credentials as a producer for the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, Wall of Voodoo, and the Fall are more than audible in the pitch perfect polish, each tracks boasting that infectious, singalong quality.

The 3LP format come complete with an extensive 11,000-word oral history and liner notes by co-founder Pete Paphides, a devoted admirer of Stephen Duffy. At the height of the shoegaze and baggy scenes, Astronauts emerged as a unique entry that sidestepped prevailing trends. While it may not reflect the album Duffy originally envisioned, it stands as a remarkable collection of songs. Duffy crafts mesmerising melodies that linger in the listener's memory, creating a sound that feels introspective rather than utopian. With the departure of Nick Duffy and the introduction of Sagat Guirey, the band's sonic palette shifts dramatically, favouring jazz-infused guitar work over the folk elements of previous albums. Guirey's intricate playing, especially on tracks like 'A Taste for Honey', shows the evolution of the band while honouring its past.
