Review: Techno tachyons Midi Mode, based in Ireland, provide a home for "warped and twisted" sounds and those who create them. After five vaporwave-tinged, reality-bending debut EPs from the likes of Ikeaboy and Power, they now present their very first selectors V/A EP on a gooey green wax edition. It's quite the assembly of Eireann techno royalty, with a host of seasoned players lead by probably the country's most esteemed DJ, Sunil Sharpe, as well as Kerrie and Wexford's Lee Holman. Quality is, naturally, at a consistently high label - with closer 'Phase-One' proving an especially computational, objectivist, mad, pitiless track.

Review: Detroit's Brian Kage is back with more Motor City goodness, this time as a remixer alongside a fine selection of peers. It is his Timeless Times album that gets reworked here and for his remix of 'Nordhouse' he works with fellow Detroiter and dub techno don Luke Hess to cook up a warm, shuffling sound. Elsewhere Delano Smith brings his signature smoky loops and plaintive keys to 'Detroit Techno City', Milton Jackson steps up with a buddy deep house roller and 'Galaxian' gets an electro remix from Max Watts to make this a classy, quality collection.

Review: With releases already clocked up on Carl Craig's Planet-E, the Omar S-run stable FXHE and Rob Modell's Echospace, Detroit house/techno fans with a keen eye (and ear) will already know Brian Kage. Michigander is his own label and this EP - that kicks off with Taho and Kage joining forces again on its A-side - was a success when it first emerged on marbled vinyl in March 2023. So much so, in fact, that's it been given a repress. With traces of acid and uplifting piano notes undewrwritten by deep chords on the opener '909 Nights', 'Warehouse Vibes' then brings driving kicks and dubby techno bliss before the closer 'JAX' goes in the style with its fist pumping rhythms. Motor City musical magic at its best.

Review: If there is one planet we would like to spend some time on, it's Planet Rhythm. For techno lovers, it is one of the finest out there thanks to its consistently high quality, fad-free output. Kaiobarssalos is next to add to the cannon with this uptempo and stripped-back EP. 'Fatia' is all twisted and unsettling synth motifs, 'Lupulo' gets glitchy and 'Not About' is packed with unresolved loops that keep you on edge, and last of all some of the pent-up pressure is released through the more smooth but still banging deep techno trip that is closer '80's Moove'.

Review: Shalom Aber's Be As One label has done a one job of evolving from its earliest sounds in the tech house realm into a place for more refined and sophisticated techno. Kashpitzky's new offering very much fits in with that MO and opens with 'Elevate' which is a trip minimal cut with rising synths that make it feel as if you are forever speeding up. 'Silver Ball' is like a hall of mirrors with synth reflections everywhere and the Phase remix lays it down with a more rooted low end. 'For The Vision' is an unpredicted but brilliant jungle closer.

Review: Terminal M and Kaspar reflect on the relationship of releasee and audience with the latter's latest EP 'You & Me'. An incendiary lead techno overture of outsized proportions, 'You & Me' rather quickly portrays the tumult of a psychodramatic relationship, rising and falling through biting hardstyle synths and gaping, kickless letups. B-sider 'Levitate' is equally as armrest-gripping, if not a little catchier in our view, its buildup synth exploiting the natural ebb of a filtrated saw, while fatherly whispers adjure us to "levitate" whilst war-of-the-worlds thunderclap synths emblazon the mix's background.

Proudly presenting the new K-llab series, Kerrie is here heard partnering with some of her favourite ever artists, offering a fresh take on the sounds and creative processes of each collaboration. Here the collab of choice is Italian duo Dynamic Forces, known for their heavy, old-school-leaning, industrial-influenced techno. Review: Returning with their second EP on their self-named label, the Kilotoni series is said to be the work of renowned techno artists, plucked from the archives, but whatever, it's a a fierce resurgence of headstrong acid techno that feels both classic and vital. Side-A opens with 'Track , a minimal yet powerful stormer driven by a thick, rolling acid bassline that commands the floor. 'Track 2' follows up with a heavier, more stomping affair i a dangerous, sci-fi-inflected ride where the acid line buzzes with an incessant, hypnotic edge, pushing the energy to the brink. Turn to Side-B and 'Track 3' hits with alien sound design and raw 90s acid techno energy. It's a slice of nostalgia, yet the strong modern production keeps it razor sharp and club-ready. Closing things out, 'Track 4' shifts gears into a groovy, fun techno jam that retains the otherworldly atmosphere but brings a lighter, more playful bounce to the mix. A heavyweight EP that perfectly captures acid techno's gritty essence while pushing it into new, futuristic spaces.

Review: The No Agenda label takes its bow here with a new EP that features a first appearance from the US's Bridget Barkan. Kimono is behind the beats and they are couched in house. 'Waiting' opens with rattling chords that bring steely determination next to the time-keeping hi-hats and echoing vocal swirls that speak of a patient wait. The Aubrey rework is super fresh with daubs of dancing synth and sci-fi details over a barely-there rhythm. Shuffling deep house sound 'Forgiveness' closes out with more slight sound designs, dusty drums and plenty of suggestion rather than in-your-face maximalism.

The pair of John Selway and Oliver Chesler were pioneers of the hard stuff first time around and now that it is back en vogue, why not reissue this classic? Review: It's 2024, and we must say, there's no label name less apt to characterise the spirit of the age better than Trance Pandemic Ukraine. With featuring artists Komponente and Kurillo launching their own imprint here - in turn named after the 2023 release 'Trance Pandemic' on fellow Berlin label System Error - their new extended play 'Boston Dynamics' is a DARPA-dogged acid techno acme ("trance" is debatable), fervently embracing the real-world threat of military robotics in sating the all-too-real, present cybernetic human appetite for war. War has, in fact, always been a muse for much electro and techno; the riffling sound design on this one comes backed up by saltatorial leg-kicks and stomping robo-march claps all throughout, and the sinister phase-twists heard most notably on 'Not From New York' do not help let up the mood of downtrodden pugnacity either. Serious stuff!

Review: Kop-Z reveals that he first encountered the term 'A Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamic System' in a book costing L2 in a Manchester junk shop. It is a term to describe humans as systems constantly battling entropy and the world's challenges to survive. "But we're also systems that work together, creating art and music," he reflects, appreciating the contrast between opposites like day and night, love and hate. His work merges autobiographical field recordings, looped vinyl and childhood video games with kinetic programming systems that are all influenced by jungle, footwork, noise, rave, post-punk and reggae. Review: Kr!z from Ghent, Belgium wastes no time getting to the pointihis latest batch of heavyweight club tools is built for impact and every track hits with precision. Opener 'Defeat The Purpose' kicks things off with a writhing, acidic synth line that coils around thundering drum machine work, setting a relentless tone. It's stripped-back but deadly, fine-tuned for peak-time hypnosis. 'Chrome Dust' takes a funkier turn, its rolling groove and tightly wound percussion making it a surefire body-mover. Closer 'Equilibrium' ups the energy one last time, filters opening wide over a punchy, rolling rhythm. It's no-nonsense, high-grade techno from a producer who knows exactly how to work a system.

Review: German techno figurehead Monika Kruse's latest single 'Morgana' is a fatally attractive one indeed. While the original mix doesn't feature on this vinyl edition for Terminal M, its two remixes by Patrik Berg and Booka Shade bring two further unrelenting, ultrahigh-energy takes to an already intensely layered knockout in the vein of festival stage and/or stadium-ready techno. Berg injects a darker and relatively industrial solution into the original's major vein, amping out its call-to-prayer vocals and panting reeses as prime pre-drop suspenders of tension. Booka Shade's duo remix is much more ambient and building, making clever use of shimmery sample synthesis to evoke something further along the way to a synth-motional sound-nova befitting of a Kruse B-side.

Review: Wiesbaden, Germany-born Florian Kupfer has spent the last decade exploring around the edges of the dancefloor with hugely evocative sounds that are always much more than mere tools. This latest mad-limited 12" is another doozy that opens with the menacing and mechanical rhythms of 'Sidelined' topped with eerie spoken word loops. 'Integrating The Shadow' is a more rugged electro rhythm with hissing hi-hats sweeping through the mix and downbeat chords adding a touch of melancholy. 'Unmasked' gets dark, dirty and messed up for those 5am wig-outs and 'Severed Lines Of Communication' is a hypnotic roller alive with static electricity.

Review: Megaweight techno by producer Kwartz (Mario Campos) for Polegroup, pulling no punches, kicks or headbutts on this rapid four-track set. The golden mean for a club residency in this day and age is of course a regular peaktime set at Berghain, and Kwartz also happens to be one of their latest residents of this ilk - not that this should influence your decision to buy this one or anything! - though there is a correlation between productive qualities of the producer and the curative choices made at the Berlin clubbing institution. Massive tune 'The Golden Hour' and the Tarkovskyan 'Enter The Zone' both testify to this being causation, though there's no certainties there, of course. 'Under Control' and 'Animal Instinct' forge an increasing rapaciousness, betraying the artist's desire to utterly stupefy the dancefloor.
