Review: Whether you like it or not, the festive season is fast approaching which means we are starting to get a number of seasonal classic land, new and old. This one is a rather non-traditional holiday release that brings a weight and musical funkiness to a genre and time of year that is often seeped in campy or classic holiday motifs. It is the work of modern jazz heavyweight Robert Glasper and finds him working with a top list of frequent collaborators including PJ Morton, Sevyn Streeter, Cynthia Ervo, Tarriona Tank Ball, Alex Isley, Andra Day and The Baylor Project. It is a real joy to listen to and brings great warmth to the cosy months.

Review: Glass Animals' fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much, arrives in both vinyl and CD formats, with this being the latter. It marks a welcome return almost four years after their chart-topping single 'Heat Waves' which took them to all new levels go global game as the best-selling single of the year. Frontman Dave Bayley's global rise during the pandemic inspired the album but despite the success, testing positive for COVID-19 meant they missed the 2022 Grammys ceremony after being nominated. The record delves into the challenges of fame and is poised to elevate the band to new heights.

Review: Life has been a bit of a slow burner for Oxford-born Glass Animals. The four-piece first began to garner 'real' attention in the run up to their 2014 debut album, Saba, with the single 'Gooey' doing them no disservice in the popularity stakes. Follow up How To Be A Human Being found itself on the Mercury Music Prize shortlist, but it was only really when LP three then hit number two in the UK albums chart and seven in the Billboard 200 that we can say they really reached the heights of fame, almost a decade into their story. That was then, though, and this is now. Four years, and one pandemic later, Glass Animals drop I Love You So F***ing Much, a record that fully commits to mainstream pop discourse, moving the outfit away from their psyche and electronic indie roots. The formula certainly suits, with the record a rich and largely joyful trip into a world of arena tours and anthems.

Review: I Love You So F***ing Much is the fourth studio album from English indie rock band Glass Animals. It comes almost four years after their epic 'Heat Waves' single rose to the top of the charts and was partly inspired by frontman Dave Bayley's experience of becoming a global sensation. Because that success came in the pandemic, the band were forced to miss the 2022 Grammys at which they had been nominated for Best New Artist cause they tested positive for COVID-19. The record is another surefire success that addresses the pitfalls of fame and will likely take the band to all new levels.

Review: Katia and Marielle Labeque's latest album, Cocteau Trilogy, celebrates operatic works by Glass inspired by Jean Cocteau's films. This highly anticipated release completes Glass's operatic triptych with transcriptions from Orphee, La Belle et la Bete, and Les Enfants Terribles, arranged specifically for the Labeque sisters by Michael Riesman. The album continues the sisters' long-standing tradition of transcending musical boundaries, blending power and subtlety with remarkable precision. From the opening notes of the Orpheus Suite, the Labeques captivate with their dynamic control and signature flair. Their interpretation of Glass's complex harmonies and rhythmic structures is both intense and nuanced, offering a fresh perspective on the composer's work. The sisters' ability to transition seamlessly between forceful, vibrant passages and moments of delicate restraint brings a new emotional depth to these compositions. Cocteau Trilogy is a compelling tribute to Glass, showcasing the Labeque sisters at their best. It's a multifaceted album that not only honors the legacy of the composer but also cements the Labeques' status as masters of their craft, making it a standout release of 2024.

Vikingur olafsson's interpretations of Philip Glass's piano works have captivated audiences worldwide. This recording marked a pivotal moment in olafsson's career, with the Icelandic pianist's perceptive and nuanced playing bringing a new dimension to Glass's minimalist compositions, capturing the composer's ability to transcend space and time. From the hypnotic repetitions of 'No. 20' to the ethereal beauty of 'No. 14', olafsson's performance is nothing short of mesmerising.

Review: The best kept secret in shoegaze? Probably depends on how many other secrets you know about and what they are. Either way, Gleemer are the almost-stadium sized band half the crowd are blown away by because they've never heard of before, and the other half are absolutely obsessed with and have been since they first encountered the group. End of the Nail is quintessential Gleemer business, and wholly indicative of why people love them so much. Combining elements of grunge and garage, skate and 'adult emo' into this gnarly, taught and rhythmic guitar soup, it's as much about looking upwards into the great beyond with contemplative chords and choruses as it is staring down at the pavement and wondering where from there. Dreamy and muscular at the same time.

Review: Global Communication's 76:14 stands out as a quintessential ambient album, often overlooked in favour of more hyped releases but in recent years has cemented itself as one of the most important and beloved electronic releases of the 1990s. Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard, under their Global Communication alias, expertly fuse ambient, Berlin-School and new age influences with beatcraft and dub elements. The album's tracks range from pure ambient pieces reminiscent of early Eno to funk-hop infused rhythms and minimalist dub pulses. Its strong songcraft and unique sonic identity have earned it a dedicated following - richly textured soundscapes and engaging compositions have made it a favourite.

Review: Ride's Andy Bell - recording under his electronic alter ego Glok - and producer and Insult to Injury label boss Timothy Clerkin join forces for Alliance, a brand new seven-track album released through Bytes. Both artists let their hair down for a freewheeling foray through freak-sonics, recalling every influence from James Holden to Boards of Canada to Death In Vegas, for a thorough canter come gallop through and in anabranched veins of Balearica, cosmic disco, shoegaze and techno. After some collaborative exchanges online, and a momentous in-person meeting at the funeral of legend Andrew Weatherall, Bell and Clerkin have since kept dutifully in touch, fashioning relentless downbeat chugs driven by amped distortion, wonderstruck arpeggiations and heavenly vox lines. From the buzzing 'Empyrean' to the neo-Balearadelican 'E-Theme', this is a massive album whose influences clock in at too many to count, and yet manage to bottle them all into a potent carbonated brimmer.

Review: Alabama post-rock trio Glories share An Expanse Of Colour, a medially lowercase and lo-fi cruncher that nonetheless still delivers effectively sublime washes of wordless extremophile rock feeling. Recorded between 2020 and 2023, we find it no wonder that these compositions took years, as they resound like hefty undertakings for a collection of tracks allegedly born of the threesome's respective basements. Dedicated to the memory of their friend, a mood of loss and finality is also, as is often the case with Glories, present throughout, with 'Sad As The Fog standing out especially as the glacial dirge descendent upon said wake.

Review: GNOD, the ever-evolving psychedelic noise-rock collective, returns with Inner Fucking Peace, a transformative collaboration with Portuguese vocalist MC Sissi. Known for constantly reinventing their sound, GNOD delivers an album that pushes new boundaries. Comprised of eight tracks for voice and electronics, this release merges experimental textures with Sissi's stream-of-consciousness Portuguese lyrics. The album showcases a broad sonic palette, from the minimalist tuned percussion of 'Stop' to the ominous electronics and crashing industrial drums on 'Get Out', reminiscent of GNOD's touring partners Harrga. Tracks like 'Tea & Eggs' delve into reggaeton-infused minimal synth, while 'Flute Theme' centers around chopped and screwed woodwind arrangements. MC Sissi's contributions, often improvised, bring an emotional depth to the album. Her irate vocals, mournful crooning and playful autotune add a new dimension to GNOD's industrial beats and spaced-out synths. With tracks ranging from hypnotic hand drum workouts to the gloom-laden 'Cannela Crematoria', Inner Fucking Peace marks another bold, unpredictable chapter in GNOD's extensive discography, leaving fans eager for what's next.

Review:  Reading-based Garage/Punk/Psychobilly band The Go Go Cult signed to the iconic rockabilly-led Western Star label in 2012. This electrifying new album is their sixth studio record since then and it's an electrifying addition to their back catalogue. Led by a frontman who rivals The Cramps' Lux Interior when it comes to a darkly-theatrical approach, the tracklist is bursting with highlights. 'Black Is The Colour Of My Love' is hypnotic and menacing, 'When The Food Runs Out' nods to Joy Division, whilst 'Regeneration' has an air of Fat White Family about it. The label only pressed a limited number of copies, making it potentially a future collectible, not to mention its stunning, niche work of art thanks to retro illustrator Vince Ray's cover.

Review: Japanese percussive and rhythmic experts Goat have finally graced us with a new album. It's taken around eight years to materialise, and band leader Koshiro Hino apparently described the process as "90% pain", which sounds like there's quite the tale to tell. No doubt all will be revealed to fans in due course, but for now let's just say one of the world's most enigmatic, talented (read: unfathomably tight) and complex groups are back on incredibly fine form. As ever with this crew, attempting to come up with reference points to guide would-be-buyers as to wether this is for them feels redundant simply because it should be impossible not to find Joy In Goat captivating. Fans of Miles Davis and Autechre alike should be bowled over, with highly technical, drum-led arrangements that sound like they could only possibly be machine made coming out of what is essentially a piece of expressive performance art on record.

Review: Goat's latest eponymous album continues their enigmatic journey through the realms of mysticism and musical exploration. The Ouroboros, symbolising eternal cycles of death and rebirth, perfectly encapsulates the band's ever-evolving sound. Building on their previous worksilike the introspective Medicine and the haunting soundtrack to The Gallows Poleithis release dives deep into rhythmically charged, ritualistic grooves with a blend of infectious funk and transcendent psychedelia. Tracks like 'One More Death' and 'Goatbrain' set the tone with their hedonistic funk and aggressive guitar fuzz, resonating with long-time fans. Meanwhile, 'Fools Journey' offers a meditative experience with its free jazz influences and shamanic textures, reminiscent of their side project Djinn. 'Frisco Beaver' revisits the party vibes of 2012's World Music, while 'Zombie' and 'Ouroboros' merge hip hop elements with celebratory chants and energetic breakbeats. As Brad Dourif's character from Wiseblood wisely notes, the journey is about finding escape and renewal. With this album, Goat delivers an exhilarating experience, reinforcing their status as pioneers in the psychedelic and ritualistic music landscape. This pressing on vinyl offers a fitting tribute to their dynamic legacy.

The band's latest incarnation as Lottie Pendlebury, Holly Mullineaux, and Rosy Jones hear them joined by modern indie production favourite John Spud Murphy for a darker, more slow-brooding foray into their hircine sound than ever before. Mainly recorded and produced at Hellfire Studios in the on-side shadow of the infamous Irish nightclub Hellfire, Below The Waste is an apt exploration of the group's underbelly to match, exploring an increased sense of "resolution, honesty and authenticity" in relationships, with lead singer Lottie Pendlebury letting on that this was an album on which they'd gone 'below the surface' where the most interesting parts of ourselves tend to be suppressed.

Review: The God Machine were one of the hottest bands of the 90s. They were signed to Fiction records (home to The Cure) and released two astounding albums of dark and industrial-sounding alternative rock. This is the second and final album from the San Diego/London band, whose history has been blighted by grief. Shortly after completing this album, their bassist Jimmy Fernandez suddenly died from a brain hemorrhage, brining an abrupt, unexpected and tragic end to the band. However, their legacy lives on thanks to the power of the music they've left behind. Highlights from this staggering album include 'Tremolo Song', which has a punishing, dark, swaggering, Stone Temple Pilots-esque feel. And the pulsating, tense cut, 'The Love Song' and the stirring 'The Devil Song', with its post-rock finale, are gripping reminders of the band's superior quality.

Review: This underground post-rock classic is now available on double vinyl for the first time since 1993, with a fresh transfer by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road from the original masters. The God Machine, formed in 1990, released two albums that helped shape the post-rock and post-metal scenes. Despite glowing reviews and live shows supporting the likes of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and My Bloody Valentine, they never gained wide recognition, often falling between indie and rock circles. Championing the band, BBC Radio 1's John Peel invited them for sessions in 1992 and 1993, cementing their place in underground music history.

Review: Harmonics, the new album from Hot Chip founding member Joe Goddard, is a warm, instinctive, and empathetic journey across 14 tracks of left-of-centre dance music. The album explores UK garage, house, hip-hop, pop, and disco, featuring a diverse array of collaborators. Eno Williams of Ibibio Sound Machine shines on the afro-house groove of 'Progress,' while UK rapper Oranje delivers on the starry-eyed boom-bap track 'When Love's Out of Fashion.' Former Wild Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe brings his unique vocal to the low-slung house track 'Summon,' and Goddard's Hot Chip bandmates Alexis Taylor and Al Doyle appear on the gleaming half-step ballad 'Heal Your Mind.' Additional guests include Tom McFarland of Jungle, Bronx-raised singer Fiorious on 'New World (Flow),' Guinean vocalist Falle Nioke, and UK jazz musician Alabaster DePlume. Available with a mini gatefold, a 16-page booklet, and a signed Polaroid, 'Harmonics' neatly captures Goddard's inclusive and collaborative spirit.

Review: This collection plunges into Godley & Creme's eccentric post-10cc years, a whirlwind of boundary-pushing pop and inventive production. Tracks like 'An Englishman in New York' burst with surreal humour and layered arrangements, showcasing their knack for storytelling through off-kilter melodies. Meanwhile, 'Snack Attack' plays with genre, blending funk-laden grooves and absurdist charm. These songs aren't just quirky diversions-they're windows into the duo's fearless approach to dismantling pop conventions. Packed with vocal harmonies, synth experiments, and a sprinkle of the absurd, this box set is a reminder of how Godley & Creme rewrote the rules for art-pop.

From the opening track, the album delivers a mix of heavy grooves and raw energy, the lyrics exploring both personal struggles and spiritual themes. Highlights include the emotive 'Shine Down', where harmonica adds a bluesy twist, and the heartfelt 'Mama', showcasing a softer side with a deeply personal message. Review: Godspeed You! Black Emperor are set to release their highly anticipated new album, No Title As Of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead. This marks the Canadian post-rock ensemble's first studio effort since 2021's G_d's Pee At State's End!. The album features six tracks that promise to continue the band's tradition of blending ambient soundscapes with intense, chaotic crescendos. Accompanying the announcement is the track 'Grey Rubble - Green Shoots,' which exemplifies the band's unique approach. The album's title reflects the grim reality of a world marked by conflict and decay, a sentiment which resonates through music which combines field recordings, minimal instrumentation and stark hymns, reflecting their anti-war, anti-capitalist stance. Godspeed You! Black Emperor's music, known for its contrasts and epic, multi-movement compositions, continues to merge influences from post-punk, progressive rock, and the avant-garde. No Title As Of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead is poised to offer a powerful, thought-provoking experience that stays true to their politically charged, dystopian vision.

Review: This genuinely organic album, Godtet, recorded live in Studios 301, Alexandria, Sydney in 2016 is repressed for the first time in six years on the La Sape label. It celebrates the meditative potency of the (just over or under) two-minute track that begins, like 'Arp' or 'Hahahhaha', as ambient exploratory rhythmical waves leading into sounds to come. Like 'Hekkaz' where Tully Ryan and Dominic Kirk's percussive poundings and slappings pleasurably alert the listener to the more luxurious melodic mixture of Andrew Bruce's keys with Godrigues' lamenting guitar, playing harmonious echoey expressive beats. Here, one of the many stand out tracks 'Ensueo' is only matched by the even more groovy and halting 'Comedy', bassline by Jan Bangma. Recorded and produced by Godriguez and Jack Prest who also mixed and mastered this conceptual adventure into the world of rhythm and reverb where John Martyn meets Alfa Mist, Godtet lovingly foregrounds each band member's singularity, culminating in the exceptional self-titled final piece. A must for those who love a late-night listening session over and over again.

Review: After over a decade away from making music, Greek-born musician and composer Giannis Gogos is back. It was the turmoil of the pandemic that allowed him to reconnect with making music after years working in photography and now he's combining analogue and digital sound with intricate melodies and plenty of keyboards, glockenspiel, kalimba and guitars. This latest album is enhanced by oodles of delay and reverb effects and makes for an ethereal journey inspired by Henry Corbin's Man of Light in Iranian Sufism. It explores light as a symbol of divine presence through serene, introspective soundscapes.

'Party Time' then brings some bumping house sounds with raw, slamming drums, 'Get Control' has well-swung kicks that punch like Mike Tyson under some woozy chords and acid stabs and 'Baby Pn' is another muscular mix of rock solid kicks, coarse percussive patterns and deft synths.

The ten new tracks on this volume are even more adventurous and offer heavy rhythms with razor-sharp guitars from Lionel and distorted grooves driven by drum machines. Opener 'Paradis' is an epic choral track that sets the tone for the slow, raw, and hypnotic sounds that follow. Highlights include 'Red Wolf' featuring Phoebe Coco, the stiff rhythmic mechanics of 'Ricochet' and the psychedelic 'Hi No Tori' with Japanese guest Vega Voga. Review: Lotti Golden's debut is a fearless dive into the chaotic, electric world of late-60s New York, where countercultural misfits and street prophets populate her genre-warping narratives. Opener 'Motor-Cycle Michael' sets the pace with its freewheeling energy, while 'Gonna Fay's' drifts into bluesy psychedelia. The sprawling 'A Lot Like Lucifer (Celia Said Long Time Loser)' shifts between swaggering rock and theatrical storytelling, mirroring the unpredictability of its characters. 'Who Are Your Friends' leans into funk-driven introspection, while 'Get Together (With Yourself)' and 'You Can Find Him' push her vision further, blending soul and gospel-inflected harmonies. Golden's distinctive approach, combining raw honesty with a complex musical palette, firmly establishes her as an artist who reshapes the boundaries of pop and rock. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Golden was drawn to music from an early age, nurtured by her parents' passion for art and culture. At just 16, she caught the attention of Bob Crewe's Saturday Music, signing as a staff writer. But Golden's vision reached beyond writing for othersishe was determined to tell her own story. With vivid lyrics that captured her experiences in New York City, her debut album chronicles youthful defiance, introspection and transformation.

Review: The 1999 supernatural horror film The Haunting, gets a new life with its first-ever vinyl release of Jerry Goldsmith's unsettling score. This Deluxe Edition 2-LP set, featuring a Black/Gold/Gray swirl design, is adorned with fresh artwork by Sina Grace, adding a visually striking touch to the bone-chilling music. Goldsmith, a legendary composer with an extensive resume, was the ideal choice to create the film's soundscape. His music goes beyond typical horror tropes, weaving a tapestry of eerie, atmospheric tension that enhances the film's haunted narrative. Known for his work on iconic films like Alien, Chinatown, Star Trek and Poltergeist, Goldsmith brought his deep understanding of mood and emotion to The Haunting, crafting a score that feels both eerie and sophisticated. The score's haunting melodies and unsettling rhythms create a feeling of lurking danger, perfectly capturing the film's ghostly themes. Critics have praised the soundtrack for its ability to evoke fear and suspense without resorting to cliches. Having this soundtrack on vinyl, brings the soundtrack alive in an elevated way.

Review: To say there's a meditative quality to Golem Mecanique's third album would be like saying air is something we breathe. The nom de plume of French multi-instrumental Karen Jebane, the album title directly quotes the final comments made by Pier Paolo Pasolini in his last ever interview, given just days before his body was found on an Italian beach after being brutally murdered. "We are all in danger", he quipped. From what, or who, we are still trying to figure out, 50 years on. Siamo Tutti In Pericolo doesn't look to answer the great mystery of what happened to the great filmmaker and auteur. But it does look to feelings of tension, quiet unease, and opaque mystery for its incredibly atmospheric tomes. This is deep dive stuff, reliant on a combination of refrained notes, echoes, and sombre, spiritual voices inviting us to push through into some other state of consciousness. Whether that will shed any light on anything is, of course, the real question we need to answer.

Review: This is the debut solo album by Italian-born, London-based composer, bassist and vocalist Ruth Goller. It was originally released in 2021 on Bex Burch's Vula Viel Records but quickly sold out with its detuned bass harmonics and dense vocal arrangements. Skylla introduced a sound both otherworldly and unplaceable and Goller's reputation soared as a result. That led to the critically acclaimed 2024 album Skyllumina on International Anthem while Skylla remains the genesis of her distinct style as it evokes the experimental energy of 1980s Downtown NYC or a Bjork-adjacent Icelandic project.

The pair's first Tangent compilation, which arrives via Mr Bongo, naturally offers a superb reflection of their approach and is packed with must-have cuts. For proof, check the proto-house era dubbed-out boogie of King B's 'Love Is Crazy', the sun-splashed Brazilian gorgeousness of 'Laberinto' by PERIKAS, the spaced-out headiness of Hidrogenese's 'La Carta Era Muy Larga (Dub)', the heavy batacuda business of 'Nira Gongo' by Conjuto Baluartes' and the dub disco-flecked, deep house brilliance of LTA's 'What Comes To Ya'.

I Said I Love You First is a perfect example of Blanco's signature production style which mixes soft beats with smooth melodies, while Gomez's vocals portray both vulnerability and confidence. Review: Gong's Unending Ascending represents the third album from the current lineup, handpicked by Daevid Allen before his passing. Following Rejoice! I'm Dead! and The Universe Also Collapses, this release continues to explore the boundaries of psychedelic space rock while carving out its own identity. This album shifts away from the Canterbury sound and Daevid Allen's trademark whimsy, focusing instead on a spacey, progressive rock journey. With a runtime of less than 40 minutes, it maintains a brisk pace, offering a series of well-crafted tracks that blend modern influences with echoes of Gong's classic era. Tracks like 'Tiny Galaxies' and 'My Guitar Is A Spaceship' highlight the band's ability to merge catchy hooks with cosmic themes. 'All Clock's Reset' evokes the spirit of Gong's past while integrating new elements, and 'Choose Your Goddess' delivers a funky, riff-driven groove. The band's musicianship is commendable, and their dedication to continuing Gong's legacy is evident. Though the absence of a dynamic frontman leaves a slight void, the album's blend of innovation and homage to Gong's roots provides a compelling listen. Unending Ascending is a worthy continuation of their evolving legacy - even for the most discerning Gong fans.

Gnome The Second
Review: Gong's second and perhaps most beloved effort 'Camembert Electrique' resurfaces on Charly Records. Recorded at the grandiose Strawberry Studios in the scenic northern French countryside, the album's 11 tracks pulse, contract and twist in a lairy bacchanal of folk, psychedelic sludge, progressive rock tropes and deadpan pop hooks. From the opening tape jingle 'Radio Gnome' to the jangly, propulsive closing prog quest 'Tropical Fish: Selene', Gong balance moments of extreme campness with quiet, emotional introspection, as on the portmanteau 'Mister Long Shanks/O Mother/I Am Your Fantasy', where driving proto-punk riffage segues into operatic proto-Black Midi ditty segues into breathtakingly suspended lap steel ambience.

Review: Chilly Gonzales' Gonzo offers an autobiographical dive into his rich, storied and accomplished career. While previous works showcased his musical depth, Gonzo explores some intriguing spoken-word sections and lyrics which are self-aggrandising and self-indulgent but always with a knowing irony. The opening track features Gonzales referring to himself as "Chilly G" in a way that is playful and songs like 'Surfing the Crowd' blend awkward nerd rap and poetry, while his witty lyrics add weight to the strong instrumental foundation. Packed with bright moments, Gonzales is in fine form here with a new type of work that is as interesting as his many other albums.

Review: Super cool jazz cat Dexter Gordon's 1963 album Our Man in Paris marked his first release from Europe and is often regarded as the final bebop album. The saxophonist gathered a quartet featuring bebop legends Bud Powell on piano and Kenny Clarke on drums and they played alongside French bassist Pierre Michelot to record this timeless work at CBS Studios in Paris. The album is defined by Gordon's commanding saxophone with the intricate rhythms of bebop that take you right back to a precise moment of musical history which marked a significant transition in jazz. It remained a defining work in Gordon's career.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Dexter Gordon's 1965 album Gettin' Around captures the essence of his refined, effortless saxophone playing, coming at a time when he was back in the States after a long stint in Europe. The vibe here is smooth and unhurried, with Gordon's tenor sax at the centre of it all, surrounded by a standout crew: vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, pianist Barry Harris, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Billy Higgins. This unique instrumentation really shines, especially with the interplay between Gordon and Hutcherson on tracks like 'Manha De Carnival' and 'Shiny Stockings.' The whole session feels relaxed yet precise, with Gordon letting his sax sing while the band provides subtle yet nuanced backing. Highlights include the gentle swing of 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool' and the more upbeat 'Le Coiffeur,' both showcasing the group's tight but easy-going chemistry. Reissued as part of the Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series, this edition stays true to its analogue roots, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes and pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl. For fans of Gordon or classic Blue Note, it's a must-have.

Review: By 1962, when Dexter Gordon recorded Go!, he was already a jazz legend and a proven pioneer in bringing bebop to the tenor saxophone in the 1940s. His career had been slowed by personal struggles but signing with Blue Note in 1961 marked a powerful resurgence and led to a series of iconic albums. Go! features a stellar quartet with Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums and highlights Gordon's boundless creativity on tracks like the tasty 'Cheese Cake' and his skilful interpretations of ballads such as 'I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry' and 'Where Are You.' This reissue comes on nice blue and heavy-weight vinyl.

Review: There is no stopping the prodigious producer Felipe Gordon who turns out huge amounts of work, without ever sacrificing artistry. He brings soul and jazz to his deep house sounds and this is the fourth time he has landed on Clone. 'Profundo' gets things underway with singing synths and shuffling deep beats, then 'Hold On' centres escapist and sunny melodies that take you to the Med. Elsewhere 'I Don't Know Why' brings spoken word vocals to lavish house and 'Takes Time' oozes sex appeal with its steamy sax notes and gentle piano tinkles. All of these cuts are laden with great musicality that puts many producers to shame.

Review: With his new album, the lauded Bogota producer Felipe Gordon assembles a collection of tender, ponderous hip-hop instrumentals inspired by 'the melancholy of a period of his life and the emotions that come with it.' While this cryptic insight could relate to a gamut of emotions from heartache to loneliness, the album's 11 tracks, including collaborations with lo-fi beats kingpins Saib and Made In M, among others, channel a timeless nostalgia which is immediately relatable. Fusing the instantly recognisable jazz lollop of many of today's 'beats to study and chill to' school with Tame Impala-esque jangle guitars and reverb clouds, Gordon delivers an anthology which truly does what it says on the tin. Turn Off, Tune In, Drop Out!

Review: Dreams can come true. When the late, great Robert Gordon was nine years old, the punk rocker turned Rockabilly-revivalist heard Elvis on the radio and he set his sights on becoming a rock & roll musician. The American went on to have a glittering career that included a stint in New York punk scene favourites Tuff Darts and having Link Wray on his records. But it was in 1978, upon signing to Elvis' label RCA, that he said it was "a dream come true." This is the first album Gordon did with RCA and his first with the go-to session guitarist of the time, Chris Spedding. It's a powerhouse of a record expertly weaving through rockabilly, 50s pop and country. Gordon's soulful vocals sparkle with nostalgic and lustful tones that are able to light up any room where it's heard. A true master of his art.
