Bobby Aitken & The Carib Beats - "Keep On Pushing" (with Lloyd & Glen) (2:54)
Bobby Aitken & The Carib Beats - "Soul Special" (2:39)
Review: The BA label is back with more super essential, late-60s rocksteady goodness here. this one finds the one and only Bobby Aitken & The Carib Beats doing their thing on a mega rework of Curtis Mayfield's classic 'Keep On Pushing' which features Lloyd Robinson and Glen Brown on vocals. The beats are raw and the guitars earthy with falsetto vocals soaring up top. On the flip is 'Soul Special' which is more laidback and chilled with spoken word musings and whimsical flute.

Unforgettable (4:36)
Review: Susan Cadogan's first live performance in Italy with The Magnetics was recorded in 2019 and is now getting released on long player. The vinyl features her chart-topping hit 'Hurt So Good,' which was produced by the legendary Lee Perry, alongside tracks from her 48-year career. Highlights include the 2017 comeback single 'Take Me Back,' and 'My Oh My,' which was a duet with The Magnetics that quickly sold out its 7" release. The LP overall captures a magic night that showcases the greatest hits from Cadogan's illustrious career.

Timeless digital roots and dub from The Disciples here featuring the late Jamaican singer Creation Stepper, who i most famously well known for his iconic 70s roots reggae classics. This release includes a fresh take on Stepper's 1978 track, 'Kill Nebuchadnezzar' and it is paired with another vocal gem, 'Ozone Layer,' plus two powerful dub versions. Originally mixed and produced by Russ D in The Disciples' studio in 1991, this music finally saw the light of day in 2011 on the Disciples Vintage label where it quickly sold out. Now back on a great sounding 12", this is a must for roots and dub heads.

Heptones - "Ain't That Bad" (with The Supersonics) (2:33)
Tommy McCook & The Supersonics - "Ska Jam" (2:51)
Review: For those truly in the know, rocksteady didn't begin with the legendary producer Coxsone Dodd. If you need any evidence then check out this tidy 7" which presses up a couple of tunes from before his era really began. Originally released in the mid-sixties on Caltone, it is an early jam from The Heptones who were already showing their class by this point. 'Ain't That Bad' is a bright cut with some captivating vocal harmonies as well as majestic horn leads and grooves that recall early ska. On the flipside that comes more to life with Tommy McCook's storming 'Ska Jam'.

Lazy Love (feat Ras Tavaris) (3:57)
Lazy Dub (4:07)
Review: Japan meets Jamaica in Tokyo Riddim Band's latest single where illustrious keyboardist Izumi 'Mimi' Kobayashi joins forces with Jamaican singer Ras Tavaris. This track revives Kobayashi's 1981 hit, 'Lazy Love,' originally from her sought-after Coconuts High LP recorded in LA. Featured on Time Capsule's 2024 Japanese reggae compilation Tokyo Riddim 1976-1985, the song now transforms from soulful pop to a deep dub cut. The Tokyo Riddim Band brilliantly blends Japanese and London sounds and infuses the track with big energy, reggae rhythms, funky bass lines, and smooth City Pop guitar, all enhanced by Prince Fatty's studio magic.

Heavy Manners (3:00)
Heavy Manners (version) (3:01)
Review: 'Heavy Manners,' is a groovy summer jam 7" from Germany's premier reggae duo, Marcus I and aDUBta. This collaboration, influenced by US Soul and classic Jamaican Reggae, brings the Studio One vibe of the 1960s to life. Following their debut album Cut A Wire Showcase (2023), they now deliver this upbeat, flying-cymbal track that's sure to set any dancefloor on fire. On Side-2, a minimalist riddim "Version," perfect for DJs craving that authentic vibe. After nearly two decades as a reggae drummer, aDUBta has fully embraced the sounds of 60s to early 80s reggae, gaining international recognition with Sounds From The Attic. Marcus I's soulful vocals and sharp songwriting shine throughout, recorded at aDUBta's Attic Roots Studio. The single, mixed analogue on a Tascam 388, is primed for sound systems worldwide, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this dynamic reggae team.

Lee Perry & The Upsetters - "Jungle Lion" (3:26)
The Upsetters - "Freak Out Skank" (3:21)
Review: Is there a more celebrated combination in all of reggae than Lee Perry & The Upsetters? The master producer and his iconic backing band laid down many of the genre's most vital sounds and helped subtly evolve it across the seventies and beyond. This single 'Jungle Lion' came right in the midst of that in 1974. An original 7" will cost you upwards of 500 quid, and that's if you can find one. Here it gets reissued on the young but already well-formed Skank & Groove label and is backed with a version by The Upsetters named 'Freak Out Skank' that gets even more warm, cavernous and dubby.

Dub Creator - "Tell The Truth Dub" (4:08)
Review: This tasty 12" features three standout tracks that shine a light on three different talents, all of whom have their own way of blending reggae, dub and roots influences. There is just enough reverence for the traditional sounds here to make them feel utterly authentic while also looking to the future and subtle new variations on the foundations. With a powerful lyrical delivery and reggae roots style, Ranking Joe sets the tone with his smooth yet commanding presence and the dub version of the track is a signature display of Dub Creator's skill with heavy basslines and echoing effects. Teddy Dan adds his touch with his deep, soulful voice and conscious lyrics and more dub goodness seals the deal.

What The World Needs Now Is Love (4:06)
What The World Needs Now Is Love (Silent Dream version) (4:32)
Review: Reggae Disco Rockers are Japan's leading reggae and lover's rock band. They have been active since they dropped their first ever single way back in 1996 and since then they have put a steady stream of sounds including six full albums and many more singles. This one is a cover of an absolute soul classic. 'What The World Needs Now Is Love' here becomes a slow, weighty dub with splashy cymbals, nice incidental melodies and a re-sung vocal that conveys the same emotions. Flip it over for a more steamy, sax-laced Silent Dream version.

Review: After a recent Pressure Sounds compilation put together the best of Caltone Records - documenting the truest gems of a great Jamaican dub label - the horse's mouth is now heard neighing. Caltone themselves have now reissued Devon Russell & The Tartans' 'Making Love', a long-lost from the late 1960s troubadours. Ne'er released before, it also comes backed exclusively with a bluesy Heptones, Tommy McCook & The Supersonics lamentation, 'Crying Over You'.

Review: The reissue of Let It Be/Big Dog by The Soulettes and The Upsetters revives a sought-after gem from 1970, originally on the Upsetter label. This double-sided classic showcases Lee Perry's exceptional production skills. On Side-1, The Soulettes deliver a mesmerising reggae twist on The Beatles' 'Let It Be,' infusing the track with a catchy rhythm and soulful charm. Flip it over to Side-2 for 'Big Dog Bloxie,' an even more eccentric take on the same theme, brimming with Perry's signature experimental flair. This reissue celebrates a distinctive moment in reggae history.

Review: The Tartans deliver a powerful double A-side single on the Reggae Fever label here with 'Awake The Town' unfolding in under three minutes. It's earthy, dusty with vintage reggae rhythms creating an irresistible groove as the buttery smooth vocals fill you with good vibes and the natty keys rumble on. On the flip side, Claudette Thomas's 'Roses Are Red' offers a more ska-tinged groover with a loopy rhythm and more lovely vocals that are sunny, carefree and have a romantic vibe. Both tracks blend sweet melodies with reggae riddims which carry you away without a care in the world.

Review: Peckings presents a stunning reissue here for lovers of roots and reggae. This 45rpm features The Three Tops and the legendary Alton Elli who is one of reggae's most cherished voices. On the A-side here, 'Do It Right' showcases The Three Tops' silky harmonies over a classic rocksteady rhythm and delivers a pure golden-era Jamaican vibe that takes you there in an instant. The flip side offers Alton Ellis' soulful and heartfelt rendition on a tune that solidifies his status as a reggae don. Both tracks exude real charm even now all these years on and are worthy additions to any box of 7" heat.

Review: London-based Tokyo Riddim Band is a fusion of cultures, uniting three generations of Japanese female musicians with London's eclectic soundscape. Their vibrant performances merge reggae drums, funky basslines, and City Pop guitar, all live and dubbed-out on stage, creating a cultural phenomenon in the reggae scene. Following their debut single's success, "Denshi Lenzi," Tokyo Riddim Band presents "Canoe Boy," a hypnotic Japanese new wave reggae track. Originally penned by Japanese punk rock pioneer PANTA in 1980 for Tomoko Kuwae's album, this gem makes its single debut now. Dubby and funky, Tokyo Riddim Band's rendition, enhanced by Prince Fatty's dubwise touch, features siren machines, extended solos, and a groovy outro.

Known for curating rare gems, Dutchess continues to deliver high-quality vinyl for lovers of classic reggae and dub. With past releases from icons like Eric Monty Morris and Tommy McCook, the label has solidified its reputation as a source for top-tier Jamaican music. Tommy McCook & The Supersonics - "The World Needs Love" (2:08)
Review: Both tracks on this crucial new drop from Duke share a common theme of love and harmony, which were of course the cornerstones of reggae and part of the reason it has such an enduring appeal as the universal need for compassion and unity has never diminished. In fact, it might be more needed now than ever. First, 'Peace & Love' by U-Roy, The Jamaicans, and Tommy McCook & The Supersonics is a timeless cut with U-Roy's toasting sat next to horn-driven rhythms that were first released in the 1970s. Similarly, Tommy McCook & The Supersonics' "The World Needs Love" captures the essence of70s reggae, with McCook's smooth saxophone leading the instrumental arrangement.

Review: This brilliant 1980 debut release by the The English Beat set them on course to become one of the most influential groups to emerge from the British Two Tone Ska movement. This album is wall-to-wall bangers and showcases some of their very best tunes, with earworm melodies encasing punchy and irreverent lyrics. Opening cut, 'I Confess' is a case in point: "Just out of spite / I confess I've ruined three lives / Now don't sleep so tight." Musically, The English Beat had style, substance and the ability to baffle and challenge their heroes. Guitarist Dave Wakeling stumped guitar heroes with his "Dad-Odd" guitar tuning. It's said that Pete Townshend phoned Wakeling up and said: "I'm sitting here with David Gilmour and we're having a bit of trouble finding your tuning for 'Save It for Later'." A superb endorsement for The English Beat, who grew up inspired by The Who and Floyd.

Review: Renowned pioneers of ska and rocksteady, Toots and the Maytals emerged in the early 1960s as pivotal figures in the popularisation of reggae. Fronted by the late Toots Hibbert, regarded alongside Bob Marley and Peter Tosh as one of reggae's chief pioneers, his soulful vocals drew comparisons to Otis Redding. Rolling Stone hailed him among the top 100 male singers ever. Their 1968 hit 'Do the Reggay' notably coined the genre's name and introduced it globally. This Is Toots and the Maytals, their third album originally released on Beverley's Records, captures their influential sound from that transformative era.

Review: A reissue that captures the essence of Tosh's deeply spiritual and politically charged reggae. The album opens with the iconic title track, blending soulful melodies with a powerful message. 'Recruiting Soldiers' follows, reflecting Tosh's political activism, while 'Can't You See' offers a heartfelt plea for peace. Tracks like 'The Day the Dollar Die' and 'Rumors of War' showcase his unique ability to combine social commentary with infectious rhythms. Pressed on limited heavyweight green vinyl, this reissue delivers a fresh way to experience an album that remains a cornerstone of reggae's rich legacy.
