Timmy P & Lunoize - "Ouch" (5:41)
Jack Swift - "Burning" (6:14)
Jack Swift - "Highrise" (Devstar Feel The Vibe remix) (6:15)
Review: SPIL Records follows up its impressive vinyl debut here with a second 12" release featuring fresh tracks from label head Jack Swift and Scott Diaz. Diaz kicks off with 'Like Dis' which is all classic US house drums and bouncy bass, then Timmy P & Lunoize's 'Ouch' is a swirling, vocal-laced party starter. Swift then offers 'Burning' which is a lively garage house cut with throwback diva vocals. Devstar's Feel The Vibe remix shuts down with some more naughty, dark and dirty bassline sounds perfect for pumping up the floor.

Luca Piermattei - "Third Rec" (with Tascam 122) (7:29)
Review: Fidelio and Luca Piermattei hook up here to explore worlds where acid, techno and electro all happily coexist. Fidelio's A-side offers three cuts that fuse 90s acid rawness with baroque drama that results in a unique mix of classical organ melodies and razor-sharp basslines. Punchy kicks and sizzling hi-hats drive the energy as you're happily lost on a neon-lit techno odyssey. On the flip, Piermattei's 'Gas' features a fluid bassline and glitching robotic vocals that are eerie yet inviting and 'Third Rec' (with Tascam 122) rounds out the release with pulse-driven electro and intricate percussion, perfect for late-night explorations.

Rinaldo Makaj - "Ethereal" (5:30)
Review: Yay Recordings closes out another solid 12 months with a various artists' EP that showcases right where the label is at. Heavy Mental kicks off with 'Dabro', a colourful and loopy house jaunt for sunny days. Twowi's 'Metaverse' takes off to the cosmos on lithe electro rhythms with ice-cold beats and widescreen pads. Parchi Pubblici & Lucretio's 'Aladdin Sane' brings some wonky deep tech vibes with of-balance drums and muffled spoken words and Rinaldo Makaj closes down with a fresh party sound perfect for cosy floors. There's plenty of variety here, which makes this a great addition to your bag.

Review: Mole Music branches out for the first time to vinyl here and shows it has a great wealth of talent to call on with a various artists' EP that is presumably the start of a new series. Holy Guacamole Vol 1 kicks off with JHNS keeping it deep and lively with 'Nevermind' while Steve End and Colau hook up for 'Back Spin' and lay down some magnificent drum loops that are silky and infectious. El Funkador's 'Shame' brings some 90s New York vibes with lovely snare sounds and warm bursts of chords. On the flipside, Alben & Laje & Errat, Hot DLVRY and Craftsmanship all cook up more fresh fusions of old and new school house.

R/K - "Desired Spring" (6:25)
Review: Short Attention Records makes a welcome return here with a new drop of wax that fits the label head into its roots in deep techno sound worlds. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track. Next, New Jersey don Joey Anderson sets a slow and deep tone with 'Human Kind' which has moody vocals and Japanese artist Takuya Matsumoto follows with 'Three Flowers', a more potent and driving cut with a fine acid bassline. Rounding off the EP is 'Desired Spring' by R/K, a loop-driven deep house gem designed for both listening and dancing.

Don't Let Go (Funk mix) (7:11)
Searching Through (5:16)
Review: Jamie Leather looks back to some early and dreamy 80s house sounds with his new EP on Gosu. Opener 'Transcript' has a bit of everything - prog chords, cosmic energy, sleek, bouncy techno drums and a playful optimism. The synths dart about the mix in more rigid fashion on 'Mid 2000s' which actually sounds more mid-80s and 'Don't Let Go (Funk mix' brings splashy cosmic pads, zippy and serrated synths over jerking house bates. 'Searching Through' closes with a little extra Chicago snap and some retro-future synth sounds that bring great colour and inventive patterns.

XTC (6:32)
Review: After a noteworthy first release, the Hidden Folder label is back in the spotlight with a new EP from Christopher Ledger. Talk Up Straight kicks off with the title track and it's the sort of tune to get any floor up on its toes and raving thanks to the slapping hits and twisted synths that bring life to the tough beats. 'Do It Like That' then brings a naughty bassline and fresh house bounce to a track with hints of retro filth. 'Almost There' is a more smooth groove that locks you into the warm synth smears and driving house drums then last of all is 'XTC' which has a menacing edge to it amongst the bristling percussion and future tech drums.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Frenchman Sebastien Leger is something of a musical drama. He makes escapist sounds with lovely captivating melodies designed to get you to disconnect from the often harsh reality of life and connect with the here and now. Stepping away from his own label he now turns up on Lost & Found with two more such well-designed and mature tracks. 'Extassy' is awash with glorious pads and shimmering synth lines over airy, suggestive drums. Flip-side tune 'In A Distorted Galaxy' has more weighted drums and rubbery baselines, but still the sort of keys that are dimly lit and twinkle in the darkness.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks & damaged sleeve ***

Japan's Thinner Groove flesh out their distinctive aesthetic with every new release. This time around, they welcome none other than Lemmi Ash, KOOLMFL and Sonic Weapon for a collaborative three-track EP of lowercase minimal tech and textural vignettes. The aim of the game is best encapsulated in the label's commentary: "each track can add a distinctive touch to the night, as like completing your cocktail with lemon and/or lime". Each track indeed sounds to the ear akin to how a fruity garnish tastes, with Ash's 'Presence' bringing tart citrine breaks notes to a gracefully held glass vessel. KOOLMFL's 'Atonbow' is drier bitters, barely availing itself of its trembling chords and sampled vox after an ultra-snappy initiation featuring a mere bass and kick-clap. Thinner Groove know all too well that good music is like an excitation of the flavour palate, and that minimality is the thing that lets such flavours sit.

Review: Giuliano Lomonte is something of an Italian veteran. He shows off his deep-seated understanding of real house dynamics here with a new EP on Re.Face Limited that offers up some shimmering sounds. Drawing a delicate and refined distinction between house and tech, he kicks off with the bubbly synths and snappy drums of 'Glasshaus' which are run through with some muttered spoken words and will get an outdoor crowd going if laded through a nice festival sound system. 'Opportunity' is deeper, with striped back drums and molten ads making for a more heady experience.

The Scissor & Thread label is a deep house outlet with plenty of class. Will Young is next to add his sound to the conversation with this new 'Too Much' single. As always it is a sophisticated sound that is unhurried and artful assembled with cuddly drums and synths that lodge deep in your brain. On the B-side, it is label co-founder Francis Harris who steps up with his mix and serves up some of his usual sublime sound designs. Last of all, DJ Aakmael brings his signature smoky soul and dusty deep house depths to a gloriously heartwarming remix of his own.

Rawax's Motor City Edition series is back with more tech from Detroit and this time it is Los Hermanos at the buttons. Gerald Mitchell opens up the 12" with 'Two Feet Up' which brings warm and soul-infused techno vibes and some lush strong stabs. 'Remember Detroit' is a just as deep cut with slick drums and sci-fi melodies rippling throughout the arrangement and then the flipside ups the energy levels with the more twitchy and synapse-firing 'Central Nervous Systems' complete with plenty of busy melodies. Things chill out a little for the closer, 'Path Of Tranquility', which showcases some lush melodies and serene synth strings.

For several years Luciano was one of the kings of the underground. The Swiss-Chilean rode the crest of the minimal wave and had his own distinctive Latin edge that marked him out in a class of one. Now he is back to DJing - often with his equally heralded brethren Ricardo Villalobos - as well as producing. Rawax has the latest goods from the man in the form of this suitably epic two-track EP. 'Assanti Sana' is all subtly shifting grooves and stringy percussive lines with some textured, expressionistic synth lines. 'In Xs' is deeper, and warmer, with ever-evolving rhythms and lots of stringy lines all woven together in an intricate fashion.

Review: Romanian artist Lumieux joins Switzerland's Adam's Bite crew with the When I Think Of You EP. Hailing from Bucharest, Lumieux epitomises the region's style-stripped-back percussion, nuanced details. Known for releases on Subtil Records, Antrakt, and UVAR, and part of Sunrise Agency, Lumieux kicks off with 'Psycho' which spans nine minutes, blending murky dub chords, fluttering bass, and choppy vocals over a swinging groove. 'Tifosi' continues with choppy stabs and wandering bass, modulating percussion. 'What You Are To Me' on the B-side features twitchy synths, hypnotic vocals, evolving kicks. 'Nebula' closes with a plucked bass groove, delayed atmospherics, and saturated rhythm.

Review: The Fantastic Friends crew has called up on its musical mates once more for a new various artists release here that showcases its signature stripped-down sounds. Daniel Meister keeps it light and airy with wispy pads and squirrelling little leads on 'Raf' then Lukea's 'The Human Design' again keeps things deft and skeletal in terms of rhythm, but here with daubs of synth and trippy melodies. M&M's 'Disfunctional Quota' has a lovely catchy groove that undulates perfectly under molten synths and Primarie & Lucide closes out with is an artful and characterful take on minimal with the playful sounds of 'Slap Back To Reality.'

Luca Piermattei - "Magical Year" (6:13)
Lucio - "Paranoid Hills" (6:21)
Review: Diggers Society Vol 1 is the inaugural release from the underground electronic music label Diggers Society, based in Barcelona. This EP showcases the label's diverse musical philosophy, featuring two tracks from legends Francesco Farfa and Miki (with collaborators Niki IL B and Andrea Melly) and two tracks from emerging talents Luca Piermattei and Lucio. Side-1 opens with 432 Birds' by Miki, Andrea Melly, and Niki IL B, a hypnotic track perfect for setting a sci-fi atmosphere. Following is Francesco Farfa's 'Fear,' a groovy, bassline-heavy tune with a trancey melody that keeps the energy high. Side-2 features Luca Piermattei's 'Magical Year,; a track that continues the EP's entrancing vibe. The closing track, Lucio's 'Paranoid Hills,' is a wicked and ominous techno piece infused with psy trance elements, offering a dark, compelling end to the night. Diggers Society Vol 1 is a really cool take on the future of techno and trance equally.

Shout out to brand new label Planka that opens its account with the perfect entitled Funderground EP. It's a various artist affair that welcomes some new names (to us) to the scene and first to go and first to impress is Moray. 'Lujuria Universal' is full flavour tech with punchy kicks and driving, fizzing bass to get clubs going. Natural Goofy brings twitchy cosmic unease to his hurried 'You Are Alone' then Len Lewis takes things into more physical realms with the loopy tech and astral basslines of 'The Emperor Strikes Back'. J Feierabend - "Listen" (7:07)
Local DJ & Natebytheway - "PB Saucers" (6:22)
Review: The second compilation from this San Diego label delivers four tracks that do a great job of blending vintage sounds and fun, spirited house and techno. Side-1 begins with Mungo Sound Machine's 'See You Next Thursday', a track that captures the spirit of west coast 90s house with a modern twist. Its acid-tinged groove and crisp production set the tone perfectly. Chuwee's 'DX Tornado' follows, with a classy, spacey vibe driven by a catchy keyboard hookipossibly a nod to the DX synthesiseripaired with tight, polished rhythms. On the flip side, J Feierabend's 'Listen' blends house with touches of electro, evoking Metro Area's rhythmic finesse. The vocoder adds a nostalgic yet fresh touch, giving us many disco memories. Closing the release, Local DJ & Natebytheway's 'PB Saucers' takes listeners into late-night territory with its melodic keys, spacey soundscapes and funky, trippy energy. This compilation shows why this label is one to watch in the coming years.

Review: The label's third outing is another brilliantly shadowy trip into the world where final and tech house fuse together into intriguing new sound worlds. Stekke feature on all cuts and are a visionary Brazilian duo and owners of Sketches. First is a solo cut 'Mind Balance' with wispy synths and a ghostly and skeletal rhythm. Heady stuff for sure.
