Review: The 50th release from Solar One Music gets a suitably special treatment: it is a limited picture disc with artwork by Abdul Haqq from Detroit, who is well known for his work for Drexciya. The electro contained within is of high standard too, as The Exaltics return with their first new material after "II Worlds" on Clone late last year. It's deep, dark, high speed stuff with creepy melodies where both head and heel are kept engaged throughout. "The Troublemaker" in particular has all the right ingredients to become something of a modern day anthem.

Kim Cosmik - "Moonrise" (6:58)
Review: Ralph Lawson's Leeds based 20/20 Vision label has made a distinctive shift into electro territory over the last couple years. It is a sound the boss has said has long been in his heart despite him being best known as a house head and longtime resident at Back to Basics, and the quality of the tunes he unearths to put out more than backs that up. The Exaltics & Paris The Black Fu kick off with a shiny, bright, visceral metallic electro workout then three further cuts take in dark wave drum machine rhythms and acid-laced bangers.

Dark N Lovely

Minimal/Tech House
Dark N' Lovely (original mix)
Dark N' Lovely (Kenny Larkin remix)
Review: After almost 15 years in the world of electronic music, Marc Romboy felt the urge to start the Systematic label as an outlet for fierce, pumping and forward-thinking house music. Since that decision, he has stuck to the plan with a long and impressive list of vinyl cuts now decorating the label's discography. Marc Romboy vs Paris The Black FU's new cut "Dark N' Lovely" has Detroit smothered all over it with its determined and thumping kick, stabling key sequences, rapid hi-hats and sultry spoken vocals. Old school and classically pounding, the original gets full points and is playing on a loop here at Juno HQ! On the flip, legendary producer/not so legendary stand-up comedian Kenny Larkin gets to grips with a remix. Equally banging, Larkin builds the atmosphere with ascending keys lifting and lowering with suspense to the bouncing rhythm. This is real tech house - go get!
