Camo & Krooked - "Set It Off" (feat Jeru The Damaja - The Caracal Project remix) (4:28)
SPY - "See Your Face Again" (Kings Of The Rollers remix) (4:56)
Lynx - "Clap Track" (feat Think Tonk) (4:14)
Q Project - "Computer Love" (Kessler remix) (5:29)
Villem - "Harp Of Gold" (4:52)
Review: Drum & bass giants Hospital Records get involved with this year's Record Store Day by serving up a limited white vinyl that also serves as further 25th anniversary celebrations. This is on top of the huge 25 rack album that came back in March and features a load more essential remixes, reworks, VIPs and covers of NHS drum & bass classics. Together they serve as a fine snapshot of the label's past, present and future with Camo & Krooked, S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Lynx, Think Tonk, Kessler, Villem and The Caracal Project all coming correct.

Think About It

Balearic/Downtempo
Think About It (6:12)
Think About It (Project Sandro remix) (5:43)
Review: Coyote team up with Quinn Luke Lamont for a one off collaboration. Quinns vocals add a distinctly yachty feel to Coyote's chuggy early evening acid groove. Project Sandro tighten up the percussion and strip the vocals back and create a dreamy more contemplative warm weather shuffler.

Get Down
Cat: ATH 118. Rel: 26 Jan 23

Disco/Nu-Disco
Get Down (4:25)
Can You Deal (4:41)
Review: Athens Of The North can usually be found honing their expert craft of unearthing nigh impossible to find disco, and reissuing it in the utmost quality. However, the work of East Coast Love Affair (Euan Fryer and Nick Moore) is deceiving, as it adopts the image of one of said reissues while actually being fully contemporary music. 'Get Down' tops up a slew of master-quality releases for the label, expropriating a vocal line from obscure Minneapolis 'lo-fi' band Quiet Storm and putting it back into an entirely new, drunk-and-high instrumental context (think lasers, whistles, funk basses, an overall hazy sound). 'Can You Deal', on the flip, lends Quiet Storm a similar treatment, albeit for a cleverly hi-lo-fi disco house treatment.

10 Years Label Sampler Vol 1

Balearic/Downtempo
Q&A - "Revolving Mirrors" (5:34)
Q&A - "Pulse" (8:54)
Lex - "Max Pen" (6:53)
Lex - "GP Score" (5:39)
Review: Here comes the first sampler, all part of Leng Records' 10th Anniversary celebrations. It marks the cultured label's 50th release and precedes a special compilation of overlooked favourites, classics and unreleased material. This one is well worth your attention though, beforehand. Phenomenal Handclap Band founder Quinn Luke with his longtime pal Alexis Georgopoulos combine as Q&A for the first two tracks, with Lex providing the third and fourth, all proving to be seductive, slow motion Balearic groovers for grown up movers. Q&A's 'Pulse' is a future groove, Lex's 'Max Pen' is a cheery number with lush squelchy bass and skyward chords, while the latter's closing offering 'GP Score' brings a little more energy.

Undercover Lover

Soul
Undercover Lover (3:28)
Undercover Lover (instrumental) (3:29)
Review: Soul and r&b are rich scenes that often cross-pollinate. Right now, few are doing it better than the organic creative partnership between LA's Jamma-Dee and London's Qendresa. Their new work 'Undercover Lover' finds its roots in Jamma-Dee's robust beat which anchors a tapestry of intricate rhythms and textures that define the West Coast soul-funk scene. Qendresa's adept songwriting adds seamless hooks and flowing vocal melodies that have true bold energy. Gary Gritness's live bassline, born from a spontaneous studio session, injects deep groove into the track while engineer K15 enhances the record with resonant richness.

UK Garage
Good Stuff (5:10)
Damage (5:15)
Sweatshop (6:44)
Major Minority (6:58)
Review: Burnski's Constant Sound is back with more badman garage madness and this time it is Dennis Quinn in charge. 'Good Stuff' opens up with mad raw beats and menacing low ends, then 'Damage' picks up the pace with a mix of sleazy vocal samples and metallic hits. 'Sweatshop is a bumpy house cut with long-legged drums and swirling pads that bring the feel good vibes and 'Major Minority' shuts down with a more late-night sound, intriguing melodies and thudding kicks that you will not be able to ignore.

Electro
Salomo - "Bodytalk" (6:58)
Interviews - "Let Go" (5:16)
Qwerty - "Kisela Neman" (5:24)
Jonbjorn - "Chica" (4:58)
Review: Bitterfeld continues to blaze its own electro trail with a seventh outing that again its top draw. This one is a various artistic collection under the title For A Bitter Tomorrow: Band 2 and opens up with Salomo's 'Bodytalk', a crisp and ice cold electro rhythm before Interviews bathe you in gloriously deft sci-fi melodies on 'Let Go' and Qwerty's 'Kisela Neman' then brings some madness with crashing hits and molten acid lines. Jonbjorn's 'Chica' closes with similarly high impact electro sounds and raw textures.
