Review: Maiden Voyage was a Japanese-owned jazz club, near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, from 1979 until 1983. In August 1981, alto saxophone legend Art Pepper, pianist George Cables, bassist David Williams, and drummer Carl Burnett played seven sets over three consecutive nights; musician and producer Ed Michel and Art's wife, Laurie Pepper, were there and tape rolled for every note played. Though he would pass away only ten months later, Pepper is known to have listened back to the tapes, taking meticulous notes on each performance and writing the likess of "the best solo I've played on this whole date - wow!!" and "This is worth the whole night!" Though some of the performances would find their way onto posthumous releases including Arthur's Blues, Art Lives, and The Maiden Voyage Sessions, now,all three nights can be heard in full, as they happened, for the first time. Produced for release by Laurie Pepper and Cheryl Pawelski, The Complete Maiden Voyage Recordings features 42 performances (23 previously unissued) plus all of the between song banter and stories from Art's three-night stand at the Los Angeles club on seven CDs. The 44-page booklet features photos, Art's original hand written notes and commentary, ephemera and a new essay from Laurie Pepper telling Art's story.

Review: For the uninitiated, Lee "Scratch" Perry is one of the most important figures in the history of reggae music. Not only did he help develop the early reggae sound captured in a number of important recordings, but as an engineer, producer, songwriter, and performer he pioneered a number of innovations, including dub reggae.
This documentary is set at Lee Perry's mountain top home and studio in Switzerland and features some of the actual sessions for the original studio recording of "Revelation". It focuses on Lee's work in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Steve Marshall in both his engineering and his producer ("John Saxon") roles.
While not appearing in this film, the musical contributions of very special guests Keith Richards and George Clinton, along with Duncan & Green, Tim Hill, Dr Sleepy, Alec Hay, elodieO & Abi Browning, and David Stewart Jones, are included.
Visually, it is an interplay of color and light, ritual and the mystical aspects of Lee Perry's spiritual and worldly spontaneity, and a frank snapshot of his musical genius. The documentary also includes excerpts of a free-flowing and revealing interview of Lee Perry by Steve Marshall.

Review: Back with an epic album of eight new remarkable tracks, The Pineapple Thief present 'It Leads To This'. Blu-ray edition featuring 5.1 Dolby Atmos mixes plus bonus album.
Recorded September 2020 to July 2023, the record took shape slowly but surely as the band meticulously perfected their sound. Often guarded, 'It Leads To This' keeps its ace in the pack up its sleeve, biding its time until all the right pieces fall in place, giving way to a beautiful, cinematic experience on every track. Conceptually, the record is Soord's efforts to better understand himself; the world around him.
Opening with the coy melodies of 'Put it Right' before moving into the metallic groove of 'Rubicon', the album builds to the heart of the record with the epic title track, the cathartic 'The Frost', followed by an introspective 'All That's Left'. The ominous 'Now it's Yours'; 'Every Trace Of Us' keep the foreboding atmosphere topped up whilst delivering The Pineapple Thief's signature dynamism, closing the record with the haunting 'To Forget'.
One of the leading lights in Europe's experimental rock domain, The Pineapple Thief were formed in 1999 by founder & chief songwriter Bruce Soord. 'It Leads To This' is their 14th studio album. The line-up has remained solid since 2016's game-changing 'Your Wilderness': Bruce Soord (guitar/vocals), Jon Sykes (bass/backing vocals), Gavin Harrison (drums/percussion); Steve Kitch (keyboards). 'Your Wilderness' made the UK Album Chart Top 75 with 2018 follow-up 'Dissolution' peaking at #36, alongside #1 UK Rock and Metal, #22 German album chart; #4 Netherlands Platomania album chart.
Whilst not only a phenomenal musician, but Bruce has also been instrumental in many stereo & immersive remixes of albums, being at the technological forefront & a 'go to' guy for 5.1 Surround Sound & Dolby Atmos mixing, he takes care of the mixing here for 'It Leads To This'. The Pineapple Thief previously released their early years collection 'How Did We Find Our Way 1999 - 2006' in 2023 with Bruce Soord also releasing his third solo album, 'Luminescence', to critical acclaim; supported on the road in autumn 2023.

Review: More than half a century after its original release, Pink Floyd At Pompeii: MCMLXXII has returned to cinemas. Shot in 1971 at the haunting amphitheatre ruins of Pompeii, the film captured the band in their pre-DSOTM phase, during which time they were moving away from their originally overt psychedelia and space rock ventures and packing their work with a denser thematic and political verve. The DVD edition represents live versions of 'Echoes' and 'A Saucerful of Secrets', among other ashen, ruinous greats, in newly restored clarity - and that's not to mention its accompanying, behind-the-scenes studio footage of an early DSOTM studio session. This is a full 90-minute cut scanned in 4K from rediscovered 35mm negatives, with Steven Wilson providing a lush new audio mix in Dolby Atmos and 5.1.

Review: NPG Records and Paisley Park Enterprises, in partnership with Warner Records, are pleased to announce the release of a brand-new audiophile Blu-ray featuring 2024's Dolby Atmos mix of Prince and the Revolution's iconic 1984 album, Purple Rain, as well as Prince's original 1984 stereo mix, in high-definition 24bit / 96kHz audio.
Prince shattered all expectations and made music history when he released the album Purple Rain, followed by the hit movie of the same name weeks later. The 9-track LP went on to win two Grammy awards ("Best Rock Performance by a Group" & "Best Album of Original Score Written For A Motion Picture"), two American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. In 2012 the Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry, which only accepts sound recordings that "are culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States." Purple Rain spent 24 weeks at #1 on the Billboard album charts, sold over 25 million copies worldwide, and appears on countless 'Best Of' polls, most recently achieving the #4 spot on Apple Music's Top 100 Albums Of All Time.
The 2024 Atmos presentation of Purple Rain featured on this Blu-Ray, was meticulously mixed from the original multi-track master tapes by Prince's protege and Best Engineered Grammy nominee Chris James. It was released via all participating Digital Service Providers on June 21, 2024. The 9-track LP went on to win two Grammy awards ("Best Rock Performance by a Group" & "Best Album of Original Score Written For A Motion Picture"), two American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. In 2012 the Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry, which only accepts sound recordings that "are culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States." Purple Rain spent 24 weeks at #1 on the Billboard album charts, sold over 25 million copies worldwide, and appears on countless 'Best Of' polls, most recently achieving the #4 spot on Apple Music's Top 100 Albums Of All Time.
The 2024 Atmos presentation of Purple Rain featured on this Blu-Ray, was meticulously mixed from the original multi-track master tapes by Prince's protege and Best Engineered Grammy nominee Chris James. It was released via all participating Digital Service Providers on June 21, 2024.
