Since debuting in 2015, Certain Music has done a good job in showcasing floor-friendly house music from a mixture of grizzled scene veterans and rising stars. Running Hot, a duo comprised of London-based producers Mark Newman and Paul Griffiths, are in the latter camp. Hopefully this EP will raise their profile, because the four subtly varied club cuts on show are all worthy of heavy rotation. Check first the lightly psychedelic tech-house/deep house fusion of 'Hypnotise', where starry melodic motifs and nostalgic samples catch the ear, before admiring the glassy-eyed Orbital-do-Italo-house wonder of 'Song For Bertie'. 'Solo' is a heavier and more locked-in take on peak-time tech-house from the early 2000s, while 'Are You Ready' sees them once more doff a cap to the colourful tactility of vintage Italian house.
