Whilst Basement Jaxx might have a clutch of chart toppers in their arsenal, the London duo have never been shy to retain the link to the underground house scene from which they rose as well as indulging in some experimental deviations. As well the recently released Basement Jaxx orchestral album, the duo's excellent Atlantic Jaxx label serves up this physical version of Simon Ratcliffe's decidedly hard to categorise solo endeavour Doris Rijkers. Originally released digitally to less fanfare than it deserves, the vinyl edition is a thing of beauty with a intricate embossed sleeve washed in a hand printed design - it's the kind of record you've half decided to buy before you even get to the music. Which is revelatory, spanning everything from spasmodic synth freakouts akin to Dam Funk wired on LSD to Battles meets Squarepusher in the car park for some signature eschewing dust ups.
