Review: A clash of the titans, the best talent in the industry coming together on one project to create the ultimate product - but enough about the Barbie movie itself. The soundtrack is, as you can expect from a movie so high-budget they created an international pink paint shortage, star-studded in a literal sense; An eclectic mix of chart-toppers like Dua Lipa, Lizzo and Billie Eilish and alternative household names like HAIM, Tame Impala and Charli XCX, this album has something for everybody - there's even a tongue-in-cheek New-York drill 'Barbie Girl' sample by none other than Nicki Minaj and starlet Ice Spice, perhaps a pseudo-apology to Aqua on behalf of Mattel?
The undeniable highlight is 'What Was I Made For?', the soul-wrenching ballad by Billie Eilish and her sibling-producer-extraordinaire FINNEAS, a harmony-laden piano ballad that audiences instantly fell in love with. A surprising high point is the ironically titled satire 'Man I Am' by Sam Smith, a combination of 80s synthpop tropes and Right Said Fred's 'Too Sexy' vocal fries - a succinct summary of the movie's core messages of toxic gender stereotypes.
