ART Dual Z Direct Dual Professional Passive Direct DI Box
Cat: 450014 Rel: 12 Mar 12

2 x passive interfaces let you connect instrument, line or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced inputs
Notes: The DUALZDirect provides 2 x independent high quality totally passive interfaces that let you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced inputs through high performance audio isolation transformers. Each of the high impedance single-ended 1/4" inputs is converted by a transformer into an isolated, balanced, low impedance signal output. The DUALZDirect's audio transformers have an extremely flat and wide frequency response and can handle high signal levels. This gives the DUALZDirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments.

The input attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input Thru jacks allows for tapping off of your signal chain. The ground lift switches let you totally separate the input and output signal grounds, when appropriate, to isolate 2 x systems, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

What further sets the DUALZDirect apart from other DI boxes are its extended features and versatility. Art have added switchable low pass filters that cut out all very high frequency interference. These Bessel filters on the outputs are placed out of the audio range and are primarily intended to reduce radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. The filters are also very effective in reducing any digital computer noise artifacts when using the DUALZDirect as an interface between a computer-based audio workstation and your monitors. The pase invert switches, while not normally included with your run of the mill DI box, have been added to allow you to switch signal polarity right at the source. This feature is especially handy when you are combining a direct tap with a microphone feed in the mix.

The compact black-anodized all aluminum case and it's passive design allow the DUALZDirect to provide years of trouble free service in live sound, permanent/fixed Install, DJ, and virtually any PA application. It's full feature set, rugged construction, and high-end specifications make the DUALZDirect the obvious choice.

ART Dual X Direct Dual Professional Active Direct DI Box
Cat: 450026 Rel: 12 Mar 12

Dual channel active direct box, comes with super quality battery
Notes: The DUALXDirect provides 2 x independent high quality active interfaces that let you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced inputs. Each of the high impedance 1/4" and XLR inputs (provided via combo jacks) are buffered and converted by very low noise active electronics into an isolated, balanced, low impedance signal output. The DUALXDirect has an extremely flat and wide frequency response and can handle high signal levels. This gives the DUALXDirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments.

The input attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input Thru jacks allow for tapping off of your signal chain. The ground lift switches let you totally separate the input and output signal grounds, when appropriate, to isolate 2 systems, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

The DUALXDirect's active circuitry is powered by phantom voltage from the output connections or by an internal 9V battery, when external power is not available. When powered by a battery, it draws less than 7.5 mA which should provide more than 100 hours of operation with a new battery (alkaline recommended). If phantom power is available, then the DUALXDirect will automatically draw its power from the external source. The power on/off switch lights more dimly when the unit is running off of the battery, lights more brightly when it is running off of phantom power, and is off when the unit is inactive.

The compact black-anodized all aluminum case and it's active design allow the DUALXDirect to provide years of trouble free service in live sound, permanent/fixed install, DJ, and virtually any PA application. It's full feature set, rugged construction, and high-end specifications make the DUALXDirect the obvious choice.

Passive interface lets you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced input thru an audio isolation transformer
Notes: The Zdirect is a high quality totally passive interface that lets you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced input thru a high performance audio isolation transformer. The high impedance single-ended 1/4" input is converted by the transformer into an isolated balanced low impedance signal source. The Zdirect's audio transformer has an extremely flat and wide frequency response and can handle high signal levels while still maintaining an isolated balanced low impedance output. This gives the Zdirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments.

Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo Line Isolator & Passive DI Box
Cat: 873375 Rel: 10 May 22

The Canvas Stereo is a Direct Box/LIne Isolator designed to remove any resistance between you and your audience by giving a pristine, sonic foundation to build your stereo masterpiece upon.
Notes: Consider this your clean slate. The Canvas Stereo is a Direct Box/LIne Isolator designed to remove any resistance between you and your audience by giving a pristine, sonic foundation to build your stereo masterpiece upon. From houses of worship to the dive bar downtown, Canvas Stereo is built to be the performance tool that goes wherever you are making your music.

Canvas Stereo is a Passive Line Isolator (LI) and Direct Injection (DI) device that converts your unbalanced signals into balanced signals for interfacing properly with your recording interface or mixer at front-of-house. If you're using an amp-in-a-box (DSP Guitar Rig), like our ACS1, keyboards, or any other instrument utilizing both left and right outputs, then the Canvas Stereo is your new bridge to the front-of-house. The Canvas Series DIs pack everything you need from a DI/LI into a standard pedal-sized enclosure designed to look great right on top of your board.

Direct Injection:
Use DI mode when connecting an unbalanced, high impedance source (Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, etc). The signal will be reduced by -20dB (-35dB with pad engaged) and converted to a balanced signal via the transformer connected to the XLR output. Use the gain on your mixer or preamp to bring up to line level.

Line Isolator:
Use the LI when needing to connect your unbalanced, low impedance source (Amp + Cab Sim like the ACS1, keys, etc.). The signals will remain full volume and be converted to balanced signals via the transformer connected to the XLR output. Less preamp gain will be required in LI.

DI or LI?
When deciding between DI or LI, check with the manufacturer of your gear to find the output impedance of the device you are wanting to interface. For a general guide:High Impedance = anything above 1k = Use DILow Impedance = less than 1k = Use LI .

Troubleshooting:
This is a passive device, so you will not damage anything if connected improperly, but it could affect the signal level and frequency response if not connected properly. This is an easy thing to test since the LI/DI switch is built into Canvas. If you lose high-frequency information when using LI mode, then you should probably be in DI mode.

Behringer DI800 Ultra DI Pro Rackmount 8 Channel DI Unit
Cat: 493497 Rel: 14 Jun 13

8 channel, rack mountable, active DI unit
Notes: The Behringer Ultra DI Pro DI800 is a professional mains/phantom powered 8 channel active DI box. If you need a rack mountable DI unit with enough inputs to accommodate everyone on stage or in the studio, plug into the DI800.

Direct Injection (DI) boxes make it possible to connect guitars, basses and keyboards (as well as other line level devices) to audio mixers and recorders. They are absolutely essential for proper impedance matching and to maintain signal integrity. Behringer active DIs feature "buffered" inputs that won't degrade the source signal like passive DI boxes can. Balanced signals leaving the DI800 are extremely low impedance (typically less than 680 ohms), and far less susceptible to noise and interference.

When it comes right down to it, all DI boxes do the same thing, right? Yes, but the DI800 does much more than just "bass guitar in, mic level signal out." It really is a highly versatile input signal toolkit.

Here are just two special features that differentiate the DI800 from most standard DI boxes:
- You'd like to connect your guitar amp's speaker output to your mixer? Not a problem, the DI800 features a -30dB attenuation switch, allowing you to connect to speaker outputs (up to 3,000 Watts!) and convert them to balanced XLR outs.
- Got a weak incoming signal? The DI800 has a +20dB switch, which really comes in handy for boosting low-level input signals.

Of course, the DI800 provides a link output for easy connection to other equipment, such as onstage amplifiers and monitor consoles. Servo balanced performance guarantees ultra flat frequency response, and the gold plated XLR output connectors provide reliable, low noise operation. Per channel ground lift switches eliminate ground loop hum problems. The DI800 does everything a standalone DI can do - times eight!

Unlike their passive counterparts, active DI boxes require a power source to make their internal electronics work. The DI800 provides two power options: 120 - 240 V~ from the nearest wall outlet or power strip, or 18 to 48V DC from your mixer's phantom power supply.

Cat: 493502 Rel: 14 Jun 13

Battery/phantom powered DI box with guitar cabinet emulation
Notes: Whether you're recording or on stage, you need a great DI (direct injection) box to get your guitar sound to the console with full dynamics and power. The Ultra G GI100 active DI box gives you all the full rock glory of a cranked 4x12 cabinet at a fraction of the weight and floor space.

The Behringer GI100 works like a standard DI box. You can use it to tap into your amplifier's speaker outputs, even high powered rigs with ratings of up to 3,000 Watts. Or, just plug your guitar directly into the GI100, switch on the realistic 4x12 cabinet simulation designed by renowned engineer Juergen Rath, and you've got rock royalty sized tone in a package the size of a cheeseburger! You may never mic your speakers again!

The DI100 sounds amazing, and it comes equipped to meet the most common needs of gigging and recording, as well as the travel in between. There's a ground lift switch that eliminates typical ground loop problems, and when phantom power is connected, this DI box automatically shuts off the internal battery. The DI100 is housed in cool looking red aluminum and features stackable, oversized rubber corners.

The DI100 goes way beyond the typical abilities of a DI box to give you the sound and performance you'd expect from a super charged vintage half stack, plus enough power to have your audience wondering where you hid the amp. Introduce your axe to the guitar loving DI100.

This gives the Xdirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments.

The input attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the input link jack allows for tapping off of your signal chain. The ground lift switch lets you totally separate the input and output signal grounds, when appropriate, to isolate 2 systems, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

What further sets the Xdirect apart from other Active DI boxes are its extended features and versatility. ART have added a switchable low pass filter that cuts out all very high frequency interference. This bessel filter on the input is placed out of the audio range and is primarily intended to reduce radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. The filter is also very effective in reducing any digital computer noise artifacts when using the Xdirect as an interface between a computer based audio workstation and your monitors.

A phase invert switch, while not normally included with your run of the mill D.I. box, has been added to allow you to switch signal polarity right at the source. This feature is especially handy when you are combining a direct tap with a microphone feed in the mix.

Behringer DI4000 V2 4-Channel Active DI Box
Cat: 780466 Rel: 15 Feb 21

4-channel direct input box
Notes: The ULTRA-DI PRO DI4000 gives you 4 first-class DI channels in a single rack space. Each channel is equipped with two Inputs (XLR and 14" TRS), a balanced XLR Output - and a 14" Link output to connect to your amp or monitor console. Plus, the DI4000 is designed to accommodate virtually any input signal, up to 40 dB of switchable input attenuation and up to 20 dB of gain, while our highly acclaimed OT-1 output transformers ensure pristine and powerful output.

Direct Injection (DI) boxes make it possible to connect guitars, basses and keyboards (as well as other line-level devices) to audio mixers and recorders. The DI4000 takes the DI box to the next level with a special 8 kHz High-Cut filter per channel for guitar applications, along with a Phase Reverse switch for optimal signal alignment. Additionally, our DI4000 active DI features "buffered" inputs that respect your source signal much better than passive DI boxes can - outputting optimally-balanced, extremely low-impedance (600 O) signals that are far less susceptible to noise and RF Interference (RFI).

The DI4000 does much more than just "bass guitar in, mic-level signal out". It really is a highly versatile input-signal toolkit. Here are just two advantages the DI4000 has over standard DI boxes: Maybe you'd like to connect your guitar amp's speaker output to your mixer? Not a problem, the DI4000 features two -20 dB attenuation switches per channel, allowing you to connect to speaker outputs rated up to 3,000 Watts - and convert them to balanced XLR outs! Weak incoming signal? The DI4000 has a +20 dB switch, which really comes in handy for boosting low-level input signals to balanced signals with real power and rock-solid impact. Worried about fluctuating voltages in the venue? The DI 4000 is equipped with an internal switch-mode power supply that ranges from 100 to 240 V and automatically adapts to mains voltages wherever you go. Of course, the DI4000 provides a Link output for easy connection to other equipment, such as your onstage amplifiers and monitor consoles. Servo-balanced performance guarantees ultra-flat frequency response - and the gold-plated XLR output connectors provide reliable, low-noise operation. Per channel ground-lift switches eliminate ground-loop hum issues. The DI4000 does everything a standalone DI can do, and much more - times four!

Klark Teknik DN100 Direct DI Box
Cat: 668378 Rel: 31 Oct 17

Active DI box with extended dynamic range
Notes: The DN100 has become an established favourite amongst both engineers and musicians alike. With its high headroom, dynamic response and sonic clarity, DN100 faithfully reproduces the character of electric and acoustic instruments and allows far more of the detail of musical performances to be captured. DN100 is intended for professional applications where +48 V phantom power is a standard feature on all mixing consoles, and its innovative design results in a significantly higher clipping point than many other active DI Boxes, providing +10 dBu output into a 2 k Ohm load. This increased headroom means that much higher level input signals can be accommodated without the need for an attenuating pad. Combined with a very low noise input circuit topology, DN100 offers a very wide dynamic range, and only requires a single -30 dB pad for use when connecting directly to instrument amplifier outputs.

DN100 is built to handle the rigours of life on the road, a thick aluminium extrusion protects the electronics, and in turn is covered by a tough silicone rubber sleeve. Exhaustive listening tests using a wide variety of active and passive bass guitars, electro-acoustic guitars and electronic musical instruments were carried out to select the components for DN100 to achieve the best musical sound. Not only was the choice of the audio transformer particularly important in achieving this goal, but the impedances of the surrounding components were also highly critical in getting the best possible performance out of the audio transformer. The line-driving characteristics of the transformer output were carefully optimised to provide the best frequency and phase responses for short and long cables and widely differing line and termination impedances. Care was taken in the design of the DN100 to avoid audio transformer core saturation and a fixed high pass filter has been included in the signal path to roll off frequencies below those that are musically important. The lowest note on a 5- or 6-string bass guitar is B0 with a frequency of 30.87 Hz, and the lowest note on an 88-key piano keyboard is A0 with a frequency of 27.50 Hz. DN100 still maintains a frequency response of i0.5 dB at these lowest musical notes. As well as the transformer in the signal path, DN100 also has a transformer to isolate the power rails to the input circuit from the phantom power supply sourced from the output XLR connector. When used in conjunction with the Earth Lift switch, this full galvanic isolation of input and output interfaces ensures that any risk of earth loops is avoided when taking a direct feed from stage backline equipment.

A custom instrumentation-grade input circuit was designed for the DN100 using advanced analogue design techniques to create the very high input impedance required by passive guitar and bass pickups, whilst keeping the actual component values low to minimise noise. This innovative approach to circuit design produces a very low noise floor, which combined with the high clipping point creates an unrivalled dynamic range in a +48 V phantom powered DI Box. DN100 features one parallel-connected XLR and two 14" TRS inputs, one which may also be used a link output for connection to a guitar or bass amplifier. When connecting to the XLR input only, the input impedance is 20 k Ohm, ideal for line level equipment and offering even lower noise performance. This input impedance is far too low for guitar and bass pickups and is removed from the circuit when a jack plug is inserted into a 14" TRS input, resulting in a nominal 1 M Ohm input impedance, ideal for passive electric pickups.

DN100 features illuminated Pad and Earth Lift switches, which along with the +48V phantom power indicator LED, provide 'at a glance' status display, even at wide distances and viewing angles.

The Earth Lift switch separates the input and output grounds, useful in eliminating earth loops between equipment on different mains electricity supplies.

DN100 is fitted with a locating slot for a Kensington lock for added security.

Walrus Audio Canvas Mono Line Isolator & Passive DI Box (black)
Cat: 873371 Rel: 26 May 22

The Canvas Mono is a Direct Box/Line Isolator designed to remove any resistance between you and your audience by giving a pristine sonic foundation to build your masterpiece upon.
Notes: Consider this your clean slate. The Canvas Mono is a Direct Box/Line Isolator designed to remove any resistance between you and your audience by giving a pristine sonic foundation to build your masterpiece upon. From houses of worship to the dive bar downtown, Canvas Mono is built to be the performance tool that goes wherever you are making your music. Canvas Mono is a Passive Line Isolator (LI) and Direct Injection (DI) device that converts your unbalanced signal into a balanced signal for interfacing properly with your recording interface or mixer at front-of-house. If you're using an amp-in-a-box (DSP Guitar Rig), like our ACS1, or running an acoustic or bass guitar direct, then the Canvas Mono is your new bridge to the front-of-house. The Canvas Mono packs everything you need from a DI/LI into a standard pedal-sized enclosure designed to look great right on top of your board.

Use the gain on your mixer or preamp to bring the signal up to line level.Line Isolator: Use LI mode when connecting your unbalanced, low impedance source (Amp + Cab Sim like the ACS1, keys, etc.). The signal will remain full volume and be converted to a balanced signal via the transformer connected to the XLR output. Less preamp gain will be required in LI mode.

DI or LI?
When deciding between DI or LI, check with the manufacturer of your gear to find the output impedance of the device you are wanting to interface with. For a general guide:High Impedance = anything above 1k = Use DILow Impedance = less than 1k = Use LI.

Samson MDA1 Mono Active Direct Box
Cat: 561539 Rel: 26 Sep 16

Durable, professional active DI box with 2-position attenuation switch
Notes: Samson's MDA1 Mono Active Direct Box combines premium sound circuitry with durable, roadworthy construction, providing high-quality signal connection solutions for live sound and recording studio applications. The MDA1 operates on either batteries or phantom power and allows clean, balanced lines to be sent from your guitars and basses.

Active Operation:

The active MDA1 provides an even frequency response on any audio signal you connect to regardless of its output impedance. As such, the MDA1 is ideal for connecting instruments with passive pickups, which have very high impedances, by preserving the top end of the instrument's frequency response. The MDA1's balanced output provides a clean signal that is less susceptible to noise than an unbalanced line, allowing for longer cable runs. In addition, a 2-position 0dB/-15dB attenuation switch lets you adapt the MDA1 to a wide variety of signals.

Thru Jack:

The MDA1's Thru jack enables you to tap off the signal from the input and pass the signal to an amplifier or monitor without affecting the original audio. This can eliminate the need for miking guitar amplifiers, which depending on your application may be preferable, especially as more musicians are using in-ear monitors.

Behringer DI800 V2 Professional Mains/Phantom Powered 8-Channel DI-Box
Cat: 762557 Rel: 15 Feb 21

phantom powered DI box
Notes: The ULTRA-DI PRO DI800 is a professional mains/phantom powered 8-channel active DI-box. If you need a rack-mountable DI unit with enough inputs to accommodate everyone on stage, or in the studio - then you need to plug into the DI800.

Direct Injection (DI) boxes make it possible to connect guitars, basses and keyboards (as well as other line-level devices) to audio mixers and recorders. They are absolutely essential for proper impedance-matching and to maintain signal integrity. The active DIs feature "buffered" inputs that respect your source signal much better than passive DI boxes can. Balanced signals leaving the DI800 are extremely low-impedance (typically less than 680 O), and far less susceptible to noise and RF Interference (RFI).

The DI800 does much more than just "bass guitar in, mic-level signal out." It really is a highly versatile input-signal toolkit. Here are just two advantages the DI800 has over standard DI boxes:

The DI800 features a -30 dB attenuation switch, allowing you to connect to speaker outputs rated up to 3,000 Watts - and convert them to balanced XLR outs- helping to connect your guitar amp speaker's output to your mixer.

The DI800 also has a +20 dB switch, which really comes in handy for boosting low-level input signals to balanced signals with real power and rock-solid impact.

Of course, the DI800 provides a Link output for easy connection to other equipment, such as your onstage amplifiers and monitor consoles. Servo-balanced performance guarantees ultra-fat frequency response - and the gold-plated XLR output connectors provide reliable, low-noise operation. Per channel ground-lift switches eliminate ground-loop hum issues. The DI800 does everything a standalone DI can do, and much more- times eight.

Unlike their passive counterparts, active DI boxes require a power source to make their internal electronics work. The DI800 provides two power options: 120 - 240 V~ from the nearest wall outlet or power strip, or +18 to +48 V DC from your mixer's phantom power supply.

The 8-channel ULTRA-DI PRO DI800 delivers exceptional sound quality - at an extremely affordable price.

ART DADB Dual Active Direct Box
Cat: 515511 Rel: 10 Dec 13

Dual channel active DI box
Notes: The ART dADB dual active direct box acts as two independent, high quality active interfaces for connecting instrument, line, or speaker level signals to balanced inputs. The high impedance ¼-inch inputs are buffered and converted by extremely low noise active electronics to deliver isolated, balanced, low impedance outputs.

The dADB delivers an extremely flat and wide frequency response even at high input levels, making it a virtually acoustically transparent DI solution.

Input attenuation on each channel allows for a wide range of source signal levels. Independent parallel thru jacks allow for tapping the signal chains. A Ground Lift on each channel allows for totally separate the input and output signal grounds to isolate two systems when required, thus reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

Switchable low pass Bessel filters eliminate high frequency interference. Operating outside of the audio range these complex and effective filter circuits are primarily intended to eliminate radio frequency interference before it gets into the main system. They also effectively reduce digital computer noise making the dADB the ideal DI solution for laptops, computer workstations and peripherals when used in stereo PA applications.

The dADB's active circuitry is powered by phantom power or by an internal 9V battery when external power is not available. Low current draw (less than 7.5 mA) should provide more than 100 hours of operation with a new battery (alkaline recommended).

The compact black all steel case and active design ensure unmatched long-term reliability in Live Sound, Permanent/Fixed Install, D.J., or virtually any PA application.

Klark Teknik DN200 DI Box
Cat: 668377 Rel: 31 Oct 17

Active stereo DI box with extended dynamic range & sum/split options
Notes: Building on the success of DN100, the DN200 offers the same high headroom, dynamic response and sonic clarity, with the added convenience of two stereo channels in the same sized enclosure. DN200 is ideal for interfacing computers, keyboards, samplers and other electronic musical instruments to mixing consoles, and faithfully reproduces the character of electric and acoustic instruments, allowing far more of the detail of musical performances to be captured. DN200 is intended for professional applications where +48 V phantom power is a standard feature on all mixing consoles, and its innovative design results in a significantly higher clipping point than many other active DI Boxes, providing +10 dBu output into a 2 k Ohm load. This increased headroom means that much higher level input signals can be accommodated without the need for an attenuating pad. Combined with a very low noise input circuit topology, DN200 offers a very wide dynamic range and only requires a single -20 dB pad, which is optimised for use with electronic musical instruments.

DN200 is built to handle the rigours of life on the road, a thick aluminium extrusion protects the electronics, and in turn is covered by a tough silicone rubber sleeve. DN200 offers two flexible signal routing options, in Sum mode both inputs are summed at -6 dB to maintain the overall signal level and are routed to the left output. In Split mode, the left input is routed to both outputs at unity gain. Both option switches include LEDs for clear indication of signal routing. Exhaustive listening tests using a wide variety of active and passive bass guitars, electro-acoustic guitars and electronic musical instruments were carried out to select the components for DN200 to achieve the best musical sound. Not only was the choice of the audio transformer particularly important in achieving this goal, but the impedances of the surrounding components were also highly critical in getting the best possible performance out of the audio transformers. The line-driving characteristics of the transformer outputs were carefully optimised to provide the best frequency and phase responses for short and long cables and widely differing line and termination impedances.

Care was taken in the design of the DN200 to avoid audio transformer core saturation and a fixed high pass filter has been included in the signal path to roll off frequencies below those that are musically important. The lowest note on a 5- or 6-string bass guitar is B0 with a frequency of 30.87 Hz, and the lowest note on an 88-key piano keyboard is A0 with a frequency of 27.50 Hz. DN200 still maintains a frequency response of i0.5 dB at these lowest musical notes.

As well as the transformers in the signal paths, DN200 also has separate transformers to isolate the independent power rails to the two input circuits from the phantom power supply sourced from the output XLR connectors. When used in conjunction with the Earth Lift switch, this full galvanic isolation of input and output interfaces ensures that any risk of earth loops is avoided when taking direct feeds from stage backline equipment.

A custom instrumentation-grade input circuit was designed for the DN200 using advanced analogue design techniques to create the very high input impedance required by passive guitar and bass pickups, whilst keeping the actual component values low to minimise noise. This innovative approach to circuit design produces a very low noise floor, which combined with the high clipping point creates an unrivalled dynamic range in a +48 V phantom powered DI Box.

Rupert Neve Designs RNDI Active Transformer Direct Interface
Cat: 572325 Rel: 29 Apr 15

Active transformer direct interface with ultra-rugged, solid-steel frame & class-A discrete amplifiers
Notes: The RNDI's signature sound is the product of new custom Rupert Neve-designed transformers and class-A biased, discrete FET amplifiers. The carefully orchestrated union of these two elements is key to the RNDI's unique response, delivering a powerful and vibrant direct sound capable of reproducing the full harmonic depth of basses, guitars, acoustic instruments, and professional line level sources. With portable, powerful, larger-than-life tone for your instrument and amplifier signals, the RNDI is truly the first standalone DI worthy of the Rupert Neve name.

After coming into existence during an experimentation with new transformer designs, the RNDI was fine-tuned over a series of listening tests against the the most popular high-end DIs available. It was in these tests where the RNDI always seemed to add another dimension to the sound and bring the instruments to life. The lows felt richer, deeper and fuller, and the highs had outstanding clarity without any added harshness. Most importantly, the design team noted: "As musicians, the RNDI consistently stood out as the DI we wanted to play through."

The RNDI's signature sound is the product both of new custom Rupert Neve-designed transformers and class-A biased, discrete FET amplifiers. The carefully orchestrated union of these two elements is key to the RNDI's unique response.

The transformers provide superior passive isolation while adding musical harmonics and dimension to the sound. The low impedance, transformer balanced output excels at driving long cable runs, and performance is immensely consistent regardless of the connected equipment. This is very important for both live and studio environments where the unamplified signal may travel almost 100ft before hitting an amplifier. In other designs, these high capacitance lines cause major reductions in high frequencies, however the output stage of the RNDI unrivaled at handling long runs with minimal losses.

The class-A and discrete FET amplifier in the RNDI is powered by industry-standard 48V phantom power on the XLR connection, and creates a very high impedance input of 2M Ohms that ensures consistent performance with a wide variety of instruments. The significance of the RNDI's class-A design is that there is no crossover distortion added to the signal, which can add upper order odd harmonics to the sound that are musically dissonant in nature. With the RNDI, the overwhelming majority of harmonic content is 2nd order (octave) with some 3rd order present (fifth above octave). These musically relevant harmonics - present in subtle amounts - actually add to the richness of the original signal. The discrete aspect of the RNDI design means there are no ICs or digital components that can have negative effects on the tone.

These efforts to harmonize the performance of the transformer and the FET amplifier have resulted in the RNDI's extremely well balanced response. The low end tonality is thick and powerful, with frequency response several octaves below audibility. The high end is clear, present, and smooth, with a frequency response extending beyond 100kHz. The phase coherence is unrivaled at all frequencies, which keeps the sound as natural as possible - especially vital when blending the direct signal with a microphone capture of the same source. Simply put, there is no DI ever made that performs like the RNDI.

In instrument mode, the RNDI's high input headroom of +21.5dBU is capable of handling not only instruments, but professional, line level sources like interfaces, CD players and drum machines without a pad. This allows the RNDI to serve as a way to "Re-Preamp" any previously recorded track using your interface and a desired pre-amp. To do this, simply connect a channel output of the interface to the input of the RNDI and connect the RNDI's output to the preamp and engage 48V. By "Re-Preamping" you can apply the tone of another preamp to the source and more accurately automate or control the drive level on the preamp.

In speaker mode, the RNDI can handle the screaming output of a 1000-watt power amplifier (92 Vrms or 266Vp-p) to capture the full tone of the instrument, preamplifier, EQ, inserts, and the amplifier's output stages before it hits the speakers. This technique allows the engineer to avoid any bleed in a live environment and any unwanted tone added by the speaker cabinet or microphone. When used with modern speaker emulation plug-ins, this technique allows the engineer to take advantage of both the flexibility of digital modeling and the superior non-linear response of an actual analogue amplifier.

In a speaker feed configuration, the DI is used post-power amplifier to capture the tone of the preamp and power amp. Be sure to switch the RNDI input level to speaker and connect the amplifier and speaker BEFORE turning the amplifier on.

Notes: PRO MEDIA DI/ PLI-04. With the new PRO MEDIA DI/ PLI-04, Palmer introduces a DI-box, produced with the discerning needs of the computer-age media in mind. Using this uncomplicated method, personal computers and other consumer equipment with unbalanced outputs can be converted to balanced, in order to carry out, e.g., a presentation over a professional PA system. The PLI-04 accommodates all the common input types, TRS jacks accepting mono or stereo plugs, RCA phono sockets and a 3.5mm stereo jack input for use with the headphone output of a Laptop or similar device. The outputs are conventional transformer balanced XLR sockets, as used in professional PA systems, guaranteeing an electrically decoupled signal, a prerequisite to ensure noise-free operation. One other special feature which should not be forgotten! Although the PLI-04 is primarily a stereo unit, it can be switched to mono, with the two stereo signals summed and fed to both XLR outputs. The PLI-04 manifests a mechanically robust unit combined with outstanding technical specifications, adding to the list of high quality products that have come to be expected from Palmer.

Palmer Pro PLI06 Line Level Converter Box
Cat: 647608 Rel: 02 May 17

2 in/1 out line level converter
Notes: Connecting laptop computers to the mixing consoles of PA systems can be a major problem due to incompatible connector formats. The Palmer Line Level Convertor PLI06 is a dedicated interface to feed the unbalanced stereo signal typically provided by a laptop to the balanced (mono) microphone inputs of professional mixing desks. It mixes the stereo output to mono while impedance matching and signal balancing are achieved by a high-quality audio transformer especially designed for the unit. Moreover, it also prevents ground loops and the annoying hum they result in. The PLI06 is entirely passive and does not require mains power or batteries.

Connecting the PLI06
Equipment providing audio output on RCA phono sockets is connected to the PLI06's inputs using a shielded RCA stereo cable. For best results with laptops we recommend using their headphones output which is usually on a 3.5 mm miniature stereo socket. Use a shielded TRS mini jack to 2x RCA phono cable for connection to the PLI06. Place the unit close to the signal source and keep the input cable as short as possible since the unbalanced signal path is susceptible to interference. The PLI06's output is on a standard wiring male XLR connector. Use a high-quality microphone cable for connection to the mixing console. Due to the balanced lo-Z signal provided by the Palmer Line Level Converter cable lengths are uncritical while interference- free signal integrity is maintained.
