Cunningham, aka Actress, responded simply, "It's a collage - Braque." Call it what you likeia mix, a mixtape, a collage, or even an albumiit's unmistakably another bold statement from Actress. Cunningham's approach defies labels and formats, creating music that exists in its own space, evolving without concern for conventional definitions or boundaries. It's just pure, unfiltered Actress, doing what he does best.

Review: Actress is one of those names that invokes equal parts notoriety and hero worship. Like so much of the music he is associated with, the producer and DJ, studio experimenter and synth explorer doesn't have a reputation for being the easiest artist to predict. A creator who seems determined to push boundaries, even if that sometimes means abrasive and uninviting to the uninitiated, or anyone who would have preferred to hear something less abstract, if not altogether safer. Grey Interiors is a case in point. Dropping on the always-incredible Norwegian outlet Smalltown Supersound only emphasises the fact this is going to be an exercise in boldly going... Pressed onto a single-sided white 12" reinforces the notion that this occupies a place very much unto itself. The drones, distant sound of stardust falling, and whirs of tech that make up this spacey drone experience confirming we've boarded the shuttle and are now exiting Earth's atmosphere.

Review: This new solo outing from Aussie talent Ad Nauseaum has it all - acid, rave, techno, hardcore and more. 'Omega System' sets a pretty brutal tone to get things underway with filtered synths and blazing acid lines searing about the mix over raw, hard, flat drums. 'Alpha System' is even quicker and brings serrated synth madness to video game motifs and slamming kicks. Last of all is 'Always Acid,' a track that was made back in 2004 but doesn't sound in any way out of date. It's another one to blow the roof off any party.

Review: Aedis, aka one half of Iso Aka, is the work of David Iriarte, an Amsterdam-based artist who delves into deep techno territory here with burrowing sounds that are physical but cerebral in equal measure. It's a sound he has interrogated on several EPs for the likes of Hivern Discs in the last five years but never as successfully as this. On Zevar, he navigates tech house depths, mystic 2-step and rolling techno and the EP's spaciousness is striking-modulated delays, cavernous reverb and deep sub frequencies create an immersive trip detailed with fragmented voices and psychedelic refrains on 'Xtz'', intricate breaks on 'Station' and heavy bass tones on 'RTHM' which add texture and tension. Each track balances revelation and restraint. Classy stuff.

Review: Techno powerhouse Planet Rhythm is back with more vital transmissions, this time thanks to Aero. Up first is the no-messing, direct-to-dance-floor banger that is Straight From The Shoulder' with its scintillating percussion and driving kicks. 'Come Again' is even more high octane with taught bass and thundering kicks. 'Lurching' keeps it a little more funky with glitchy sounds and broken beat patterns and 'Crutch' is a final assault that is minimal in design but maximal in effect.

Review: David Agrella has dropped some great work in recent times on the Seven Hills label as well as his own R.F.X.N. and now is charged with kicking off a new imprint Path. It opens with 'Yes I Am Available' which is a silky blend of minimal tech and balmy cosmic pads. 'At The Tone' is a more percussive number that is stripped back to some dry tech beats, and 'Contented Regrets' then shuts down with a dark, more menacing edge for those freak after-party moments. Named after the artist's debut release which shared equal sides with fellow producer Modern House Quintet, here Notal changes the game, occupying a full four sides of wax. The A-siders 'City Smile' and 'True I Am' bring atmospheres of motoric rigidity, functioning as premier schema for the human navigation of comparatively less human urban environments. 'Let Me In' and 'Confused Reaction' offer similar blueprints, though there's an ever so slightly upped acidity on the B2.

Going in, we're asked by the artist to picture a riotous cocktail party gone a little roguer than polite society usually may ordain, and while, of course, Barry White sultrily hoarsens in hushed baritones down below. In fact, the opener of this record samples Love Unlimited Orchestra's 'After Five', a star track from the side project which White led. Much like White's symbolic identification with sensual, smooth lovin' in the West, 'After Five' follows white's tip that 5AM is the threshold between day and night, and that, after having crossed it, any given raver should expect no less from their fellow revellers than behavioural alterity. Two remixes from Pablo Bozzi and Aldonna go on to "en-trance" the first track, implying baggy-eyed comedowns, while the wild A2 hears us emerge on the sands of a tropical atoll, where coconut castanets and foreshore marimba await to greet us.

Yuki Takasaki is a champion channeller of dub techno trueness, having made many a wave on the Tokyo underground scene already; his efforts come to a renewed head on the new EP for Primary Colours, 'Wonderscape Numinous', a high-impedance, phantom-powered trip through figurative J-scapes; to 'Self-Replication', 'Adaptive Swarm' and 'Wonderscape Numinous', we imagine a simulacrum web of nanobots splayed across the city, their many lens refocusings and field reconfigurations emitting a syntonic electric hum. The closer is especially beautiful, haunting the nighttime itinerant ear with cutoff chord ricochets and an endless fumbling foley sound; the sound recalls a restless cyborg, endlessly fiddling with its field recording equipment as though it were a dopaminergic Rubik's cube.
