Love Changes Everything I
Love Changes Everything II
Love Changes Everything III
Love Changes Everything IV
Love Changes Everything V
Love Changes Everything VI
Review: Dirty Three's first full-length since 2012 is a strong trip through six cinematic movements.Love Changes Everything is a windswept trek through arid deserts and moonlit forests, a contemplation of love that blends melancholy jazz, ambient folk, and tender post-rock. The trio, comprising Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White, has a knack for producing instrumental music that defies categorization. White's drumming is as textural and unfastened as ever, Turner's riffs hum with punk ferocity and raw Americana, while Ellis's strings, piano, and synths provide a widescreen theatricality. The album opens with Turner's disfigured twangs and Ellis's soaring strings, gradually building to a militaristic thump. Tracks like 'II' and 'III' offer slow-motion piano melodies and spectral strings, creating visuals of spectral faces and oily vapors. Love Changes Everything unfolds like a film, with moments of fiery discordance and serene contemplation. Ellis's fiddle on 'V' and the tempestuous conclusion on 'VI' exemplify their dynamic range. This album is a sublime addition to their catalogue because of their matured, exploratory sound.

Review: After a decade-long hiatus, The Dirty Three return with their latest album, Love Changes Everything, marking their triumphant resurgence into the indie music scene. The album's opening track 'Love Changes Everything I' sets the stage with a furious storm of Warren Ellis' viola, Mick Turner's guitar and Jim White's drums, showcasing the band's raw energy and signature sound. Throughout the album, The Dirty Three navigate through various sonic landscapes, from ambient textures to raucous distortions, all while maintaining their distinct musical identity. The trio's chemistry remains palpable as they effortlessly weave through loops and transcendent moments, demonstrating a renewed sense of creativity and exploration. Review: Based out of Melbourne, Australia, Takiaya Reed (better known as Divide & Dissolve) is a one-woman monolithic force of industrial-tinged, neo-classical leaning instrumental doom metal. Originally a duo, 2023's fourth full-length Systemic marked the first effort from the project following the departure of percussionist Sylvie Nehill (of M?ori and White-Australian heritage), with guitarist/saxophonist Reed (of Tsalagi and African-American heritage) embarking on a solo venture from there on out. Her second singular display of overtly political, droning sonic dread comes in the form of Insatiable, which coalesces mercurial beauty with bombastic abrasion, almost as if sonically illustrating the warring of mindsets active in our collective conscious. From drawing ire back in 2018 for their controversial music video for 'Resistance' which featured spitting and spraying urine-coloured water on monuments of colonial figures such as Captain James Cook and John Batman, Reed has made it clear ever since that their punishing instrumentals are designed with the artful intention of "decolonising, decentralising, disestablishing, and destroying white supremacy", which she makes overwhelming ends to accomplish without a single word uttered.

Review: Returning with their first full-length in seven long arduous years, Texan post-rock pioneers Explosions In The Sky rediscover their purpose and poise on eighth full-length End. Following on from 2016's The Wilderness, which toyed with ambient segues and electronic moments of respite to compartmentalise the epic song-structures, this latest batch of material opts to eschew many of these meanderings in order to prioritise their bombastic, emotive, swelling spectacles with little in the way of sonic dressing. Mercurial, thoughtfully paced and potently cathartic, the work serves as a revitalised and transient embracing of classic post-rock motifs, crafted by some of the very hands that initially begat the forms.

Review: Pom Poko have matured significantly with their new album Champion, which is a rather profound and uplifting post-punk effort. Vocalist Ragnhild Fangel Jamtveit, bassist Jonas Krovel, guitarist Martin Miguel Almagro Tonne, and drummer Ola Djupvik are more connected than ever here both personally and musically. Unlike many bands that use the term "family" all too loosely, Pom Poko has truly become a tightly-knit unit through extensive touring and what they say is a rigorously democratic songwriting process. Their focus remains on staying true to their artistic values here while also pushing the boundaries of their dynamic and often chaotic sound.
