  1. Alternate Current - "Borrowed Language" (6:22)
  2. Dreadmaul & Tobe:n - "Homunculus" (6:08)
  3. LCP - "Off Limits" (5:22)
  4. Books - "Cosine" (4:57)
Review: Fresh off the back of Cryptographic's intense 'Echo' release comes this fitting V/A from the ever-intriguing Swiss experimental 170 label Re:st. Music to realign our Covid-ravaged chakras to 'Re:align' introduces three new names to the label; Alternate Current steams out of the gates with a dub techno juggernaut 'Borrowed Language' while Dreadmaul & Tobe:n whip a rhythmic stampede that's screaming to be unleashed on a big system with 'Homunculus'. Flip for two slightly more cosmic tales as label founder LCP gently pats us down with the trickling lolloping loops of 'Off Limits' before Books signs us out with the sparse and skippy 'Cosine'. Refine your alignments.

Blow Your Mind
Cat: MET 037. Rel: 22 Oct 20
  1. Blow Your Mind (6:16)
  2. Touch Me (5:42)
  3. Is This The Way? (6:49)
  4. The Free Life (6:55)
Review: Nico Lahs hails from Bari and is a prolific producer with top credits on Ovum, Poker Flat and Rawax. This marks his first sojourn on Metamorphic and as always he brings a real melting pot of sounds to the EP having had a few years off to focus on his Cosmic garden alias and Cosmic Rhythm label. All four jams are spaced out and atmospheric techno that are packed with deft details and compelling drum lines that take you into the future. The standout for us is 'Touch Me', a far sighted track with Detroit referencing percussion and that are machine soul that only the finest producers can achieve.

  1. Visitore (8:51)
  2. Second Start (5:16)
  3. Everybody In (Coincidental mix) (6:40)
  4. 12H/Sun (7:08)
Review: Eliaz is a prolific techno producer and true master of his hardware. He heads off in a cosmic direction on this new EP with the journeying acid techno of 'Visitore' laying a great foundation with its long legged drums and pounding bass. 'Second Start' is a slippery electro jam with fizzing synths and classic cow bell pings while the flip side gets much more manic, with clipped kicks and squealing metal snares making 'Everybody In' a visceral groove. '12H/Sun' is the unhinged cosmic banger that everyone needs in their life come 4am on the right dance floor.

Analog EP
Analog EP (12")
Cat: AS 24. Rel: 23 Oct 20
  1. Catching Up Winning (5:49)
  2. Careless (6:55)
  3. Cannibal Groove (8:04)
  4. His 808 (4:32)
Review: Minneapolis, circa 95, a young Frederick Freshton smooths down his dapper moustache and experiments with a small but perfectly formed collection of machines. The results remain on DAT for almost 25 years... Until today. Fresh to Assemble Music in every sense, both sides explore very specific vibes. 'Catching Up Winning' and 'Careless' are both stripped back acid techno wildebeests with hard-as-nails kicks and sinewy, spidery grooves while 'Cannibal Groove' and 'His 808' echo with breakbeats he would later become best known for. Pure, honest, simple and timeless.

2X ORANGE
2X ORANGE (hand-stamped 12")
2X
Cat: 2X ORANGE. Rel: 22 Oct 20
  1. Measuring Trips (5:28)
  2. Stray (8:00)
Review: Naming records after colours is nothing new; in fact, British tech-house pioneers Circulation spent much of their career delivering tracks named in honour of Pantone colours. Perhaps it was this that inspired Alex Falconer and Jean-Pierre Ahtuam to follow a similar pattern with releases on their 2X label. Circulation certainly would have been proud of 'Stray', the flipside cut on Tim Schlockermann's 2X Orange 12" (his first for the imprint). Featuring meditative ambient chords, pulsing and pleasing synthesizer melodies, chunky synth-bass and snappy, hypnotic machine drums, it sits somewhere between early 2000s tech-house and machine-made deep house. Over on side A, Schlockermann opts for a fuzzier, quirkier and more lo-fi sound on the analogue house sweetness that is 'Measuring Trips'.

Transition EP

  1. Doubled (5:17)
  2. Deep (5:01)
  3. Brain (5:25)
  4. Brain (Soothing Effect) (4:28)
  5. HE (4:56)
Review: While 1990s Italian techno duo Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono may have called themselves Quiet Men, the music showcased on this first EP in 21 years is anything but. It's made up of tracks recorded - but largely not released - between 1994 and '97, which the pair recently rediscovered on dusty DATs. There's much to enjoy across the five tracks, from the angular acid bass, heavy beats and angular, post-bleep melodies of 'Doubled', and the aptly-named, early Moby style techno immersion of 'Deep', to the stomping, buzzing intensity of 'HE', and the introspective dreaminess of stripped-back ambient techno number 'Brain'. The latter comes accompanied by a stunning, previously unheard, beat-free revision.

Off Spring (reissue)
Cat: CCE 033. Rel: 23 Oct 20
  1. Animate (4:03)
  2. Double Glock (4:41)
  3. Do-U-C (3:50)
  4. House-O-Rmx (3:42)
Review: Chiwax take us back to the work of a genuine master: DJ Deeon. Originally released in 1995, 'Off Spring' was one of many Deeon Boyd ghetto-edged collections at the time as he smashed down the walls of the game, developing his stampy House-O-Matic signature with every Dance Mania missive. 'Animate' sets the pace with its elephant kicks and naggy staccato riff while 'Double Glock' goes in on the loopy chants synonymous with Deeon's style. Flip for the slinkier, dubby bass undulations of 'Do-U-C' before 'House-O-Rmx' bends your mind one last time. Freak mode: enabled.

Dream Warriors EP
Cat: ARKIO 004. Rel: 21 Oct 20
  1. Dream Warriors (6:13)
  2. Dream Warriors (Denise Rabe remix) (6:25)
  3. Einoeino (5:56)
  4. Einoeino (TWR72 remix) (5:45)
Review: Belgium's Arkham Audio, run by Cri Du Coeur, delivers its latest release which comes from Frenchman Electric Rescue, whose new EP follows on from a recent album on Bedrock Records. Dream Warriors firmly establishes Antoine Husson's hypnotising yet adrenalising sound, with ascendant techno heroine Denise Rabe also getting on board for a pummelling peak time rework of the track. On the flip, Dutch duo TWR72 (Float Records) bring that hypnotic Purposemaker sound to their perspective of 'Einoeino' which expands on the original version's dry and industrial aesthetic.

Keid (12")
Cat: SNDST 82. Rel: 23 Oct 20
  1. Keid (6:45)
  2. Planet9 (7:45)
  3. Echoes From Epsilon (5:23)
Review: Business techno mainstays Pan Pot know how to craft the sort of super sized tunes that work at the super sized festivals and Ibiza venues they are most used to playing. Their Second State label has long been the best place to catch such sounds and it is here they return with three more of their concoctions. 'Keid' actually opens with a mysterious lead that speaks of a deserted cosmic landscape, and then 'Planet9' is even more paired back. A snaking bassline is creepy and creeping as undulating pads bring the soul. Last of all, 'Echoes From Epsilon' is the ambient soundscapes of a distant astral body that we all poetically imagine exist somewhere out there.
