Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Review: Talented LA producer 1morning makes his debut on the well regarded Character label here and brings plenty of the know how he has picked dup while laying down his superb vinyl DJ sets around the world. He fuses new school funky and tribal techno with subtle hints that suggest he has a love of 90s originators like Ben Sims and Dave Angel. 'Samba De Verao' is a dense, high intensity sound with skewed synths and dusty hi hats while 'Flux' is more deep and has throbbing drums and smeared pads fleshing out the groove. On the flip are two more emotionally intense and fantastically engaging techno cuts.

Review: Heaven Smile is a Nduja-affiliated label that is back with a second offering that takes a trip into futuristic techno as well as offering up some superb abstract outings. 'Hold-1' is an ambient soundscape that draws you into a filtered synth that pulses as changes shape. 'Track 2' is dubby, techno-leaning house with diffuse chord vamps and 'Aliasing' is a distorted, scruffy collage of broken beats and knackered claps with a fuzzy pulse running through the middle. 'Hold-3' offers another ambient moment to catch your breath then 'Windmill' suspends you in amongst the stars.

Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Review: Adding yet another record to the pile that has so far been provided by the label A_A, the experimental dub artists behind said outfit (Satoshi Tomiie and Nao Gunji) have really outdone themselves out here. On pink splatter vinyl comes 'Dissonant', one of many EPs to have emerged from the same heads-down studio session that saw to its predecessor, 'Radiant'. Tracks 1-4 lock in a slew of impressive ear-scourings and dub-delayed experimentations, with the first and last tracks particularly blowing us away with their broken beats, which allow for more attention to be paid to every undulation, crackle and knock.

Review: UK artist David Duncan recorded only one EP as Ability II but it is one of those which has become an utter cult classic and much sought-after 12". The story goes that the bassline on this one was so deep the mastering engineer had a problem cutting it. There is no evidence of it on this reissue though - that bassline powers the tune perfectly as the plunging kick drums and dancing synths get you moving your body. Perfectly deployed vocals bring heart-aching soul as this most warm and dubby cut drowns you in timeless deep techno. Next to the gorgeous original mix is an extended dub for even more drawn-out late-night dance floor pleasures.

First up is Phase O who flips 'Open Your Soul' into a full steam ahead but stripped back and smooth techno bouncer, while the Adiel remix of 'Mind Over Matter' is 100 miles an hour and perfectly frictionless deep techno. Viels brings more cavernous bass and sparse atmospheres to his remix of 'Alpha State' and 'Echo Chamber' (Svarog remix) closes down with a rather haunting vibe and ghostly pad work.

Review: Portal ends the year with a delightfully well-crafted and deliciously deep techno long player from Acaera. It opens up in dubbed-out and stripped-back fashion with supple rolling rhythms way down below the most deft of pads. 'Anaesthesia' brings some fizzing static electricity to the mix but the mood remains foggy and bleak in beautiful ways then 'Learned Behaviour' brings a little more thump to the low end but the atmosphere remains sparse. 'Forella' is a dub techno cruiser that floats on airy breaks and 'Reorientation' shuts down with three-plus minutes of eerie ambiance.

On the second side, 'Melatron' explores a deeper, cavernous sound while 'Destroy Dub Effect' adds a broken techno beat to the point of it almost verging on a EBM sound. We especially like introducing the haunting vocal to the song. All and all, you have one storming techno record. If you like it hard, then this is for you!

Claus then goes for something that aprs the mind with its twisted leads and unrelenting linear funk on 'Vape Nation' and finally FJAAk themselves step up with 'Tek Tek Tek'. It's tense and dense techno thumper with the biggest kick drums you've ever heard all cut up by razor sharp hi hats and booming bass. Add in some clipped vocal stabs and you have an all out techno party starter.

Review: Adiel's Danza Tribale adventures continue apace as she delivers the fourteenth release on her label. As well as exploring immersive, non-standard rhythms in her well-established style, the Italian artist is also folding some more emotive, trance and pop-informed elements into her sound. 'Nulla Resta' has a bombastic, main stage festival quality to its composition, while 'Sospesa' edges some brooding songwriting qualities into an intricate, elegant d&b-styled production. 'Parole' switches things up with a lighter mood led by organic instrumentation and plucked string leads and 'Notturna' closes the EP out with yet more epic production that confirms the techno stalwart heading into fresh pastures away from the strictures of pure club music.

Review: Adlas has a compelling signature sound - its quick and punchy but also seductive and funk. The opener on this new EP for Answer Code Request certainly fits that bill - Headland' has nice analogue drums and elastic bass down low with rich, smeared synths up top. 'Oscillation' gets deeper and rides on a rolling beat that rocks back and forth with ambient synths up top and a sense of mysticism in the air. 'Bluff' gets back to bumpy beats and dubbed low ends with some static-charged pads and 'Static' is the deepest of the lot - a subaquatic deep techno trip for the heads.

Review: Remastered and reissued with new a new album cover via the Clone West Coast Series, Adult's 'New Phonies' EP first appeared in 2000 as the duo moniker of Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, two legit electro stalwarts. This is a proper snappy electro EP - of the least sympathetic and most coldly calculating kind - evoking the fright of becoming trapped inside an inescapable subliminal-sonic cybernetic feedback loop, with all human faculties thrown to the wayside. 'Hand To Phone', for example, locks us into a communicative-cybernetic stasis, with spitty acid 16ths betraying the mood of becoming affective chasers of electromagnetic signals, unwittingly carrying out the bidding of our new techno-evangelist overlords. The A-sider 'New Object', meanwhile, with its sizzling 808s, transitional fluctuations and hip-hop vocal refrain - "I need you to accommodate my comunication needs" - touches on several layers of objectification at once: sexual, commodification, loss of the ability to speak. Adult truly dealt with adult themes and embraced their recapture into the machine - now you too can own their New Object.

Review: Agonis takes inspiration from astronomy for his new EP on Midgar. The Berlin-based techno experimenter and co-founder of Amenthia harnesses the unworldly energy of gamma rays and their electromagnetic radiation across four cuts. 'Gamma Ray' is first and a thumping and dynamic blend of bubbling bass and rubbery kicks overlaid with spiraling synths that fall like fireworks. 'Carbonine' is another quick and punchy cut with tightly woven drums and 'Solaris' then suspends you up amongst the stars with warm solar winds streaming by next to deft synth modulations. Closer 'Monolith' slows things down and brings some mysterious late-night funk to the EP.

Review: Spanish artist Aiken returns to his own Timeline label with a searing new four track EP that burrows deep into the night. 'Instruction' is a race to the bottom on spangled synths and baselines that are so tightly woven your mind will fall in on itself trying to keep up. 'The Lesson' is an exercise in tripped-out melodies and hamming hits that never let up and 'Assimilation' is antlers proudly futuristic techno cut that sounds like a factory floor in overdrive. 'Denial' is possibly the best of the punch - a track with scuffed-up broken beats skating over ice as bright little melodic phrases hint at hope up top. Sublime stuff.

On its first release titled 'Techno Mafia', he explores 'mega hypnotic minimalism' as heard on the A-side title track, which makes for the perfect afterhours jam which to get those heads down on the dancefloor. Review: Charlotte De Witte's KNTXT label is one of new school techno's most influential and has very much helped to take techno into harder, darker, trance-tinged realms in recent times. Alignment is one of the artists who has helped with that and now serves up more blistering cuts on the Close Your Eyes EP. The title track is a monstrous opener with bright synths and serrated saw-shaped sounds cutting up the flat-footed drums. The hard techno vibes continue on 'Deep Space' and more trance energy washes over 'Dance For Me' which is decidedly 90s in vibe. 'Fight For A New World' closes down with the sort of hands-in-the-air energy of an epic festival anthem.

Review: Darren Allen has always operated in his own sonic world with high-fidelity electronics and cultured grooves taking you on deep trips through the cosmos. The Underlying Form label head is now back on his own outlet with another timeless EP that takes you deep down the rabbit hole. 'Over The Rainbow' is deep, warm techno with plenty of deft details over a thudding groove. 'Time Dissolves' is a psychedelic 5am wig out with twisted synths warping around the rubbery, linear drums and bass. Review: As Trule approaches the occasion of its 25th EP, Alpi is given the nod to take care of a sublime new four-tracker. This is an EP of stylish and subversive techno that is meticulously designed and all named after plants. The rhythms are suggestive rather than in your face but never fail to lock you in while you gaze at the fresh synths and unusual sound designs all around. 'Hedera' is first up and floats on air with skittish hits and detuned chords, then 'Oxalis' slows to a crawl that melts the mind. Review: Parallel is the fourth EP by Altinbas on his own label, Observer Station. The beats are pounding and rough for those strong advocates who like their techno tough. The gold in 'Tide' is found in the ever-changing percussion elements that propel it to addiction. For the second side, 'MT15' keeps things moving, employing key rave claps and a nice ride to the support the pulsating driver. Lastly, the title track takes some edge of tension with a great balance of melody over the mechanical loop. Hats off to Altinbas for taking the 90s warehouse techno sound and updating it while still paying homage to it.

Review: Fuse is of course one of techno's most venerated clubs. It's been a hotbed of underground action for decades and has run its own in house label before, though not since 2016. After being dormant since then, it now gets revived and the first drop is from resident Altinbas. It is exactly the sort of high octane techno you could expect to hear in the club, which has been open since 1994 and is Belgium's longest-running techno venue: dark, tense, full of futuristic synths and wall-rattling basslines that take you into the next dimension.

Opener 'Rabble' is controlled techno chaos, a flurry of whirring machines and unrelenting drums that will frazzle your brain. 'Rubble' is just as intense, a big wall of rusted synth work and industrial noise mangled into something rhythmic and futuristic. 'Chapel Perilous' on the flip then offers up a spaced-out journey deep into the inner psyche. A welcome return from a truly singular artist that comes on fluorescent yellow wax.

His cherry picking of some of these 90s gems leads him to dub out, slow down, trip out and speed up the likes of High Lonesome Sound System's percussive new age dream 'Waiting For The Lights' (Tribal remix) and the chugging disco churner that is The Factory's 'TIME' (Moving Slowly mix) to make for a truly original collection.

Review: OHM is quickly becoming a quality imprint you can count on for techno and dub techno. The ninth addition in the series, it calls for an excellent blend of composers to balance this EP out. Veteran Jamie Anderson collabs with the brilliant Owain K on opener. The 'Aqua Dub' builds a euphoria for late night smiles. Smooth is an understatement on this linear gem. One artist on here that's been making strong appearances on many dub techno labels is the ever-talented Francisco Aguado. 'Balance' is a great tribal transition track for any DJ who can it creatively to build the means to an end. On the second side, Star Dub offers the very addictive and techy 'Forst'. Ending on a high note, the brisk and flighty 'Ever Growing' by Volpe completes the ninth edition in a rapturous mood. If you like deep techno, the OHM series is a must to collect.

Review: We're Going Back returns to follow up its assured first release with a second 12", this time from Troy Anderson who shows himself to be a designer of some super stylish deep techno. 'Pulse Widthin' is dubby, widescreen and rolling with fizzing synths hanging in the air over prickly drums. There is a quieter, more sparse atmosphere to 'Dimode Ice' with its wispy pads and rolling kicks and then things ate off on 'FM Machine' - a minimal and deep rhythm with curious leads and deep space mystery before 'Doughnut Troll' gets more dark and menacing. A great EP.

Review: Up to this point, the deliciously devilish Renegade Methodz label has largely been a vehicle for founder Endlec's fearsome, formidable techno productions. Following his Cycle Of Doom release comes this VA drop, which helps map the contours of the techno which makes this Greek label tick. Review: Dimi Angelis makes a fine statement with his 13th release via the ANGLS label and it is packed with raw, authentic beats across four robust tracks that are destined to captivate dancefloors. The A-side features 'Shadowland' which immediately ensnares listeners with its lasso-like loops and spatial nuances. Meanwhile, 'Intergalactic' ignites the dancefloor with its mechanical noise assault and superbly uses the 909 to build suspense with punchy rhythms. Flipping to the B-side, 'Crionics' plunges you into a deep sonic abyss where tension abounds and finally 'Ice Warrior' concludes the journey with abstract yet fulfilling frequencies. Review: The recently started Xistence Records, is dedicated to being a beacon of quality Detroit inspired techno. The label is the home base for Phil Robertson and his own music (so far). Under the name Arbilla, this is the third release on the label. The Movement is a massive classic sounding Detroit techno that would could easily be found in the UR camp. This is that large futuristic, dystopian hi-tech jazz type sound. The B-side features remixes by Biz and then Microworld. The Biz remix is more pronounced on the rhythm and works out a few additions to the original melody successfully. Australian veteran Microworld puts a bit more muscle into the groove while still keeping things melodic and up-tempo. For fans of Detroit techno, you are going to love this.

Review: The Xistence label has coaxed some brilliantly Detroit style techno out of Arbilla here. It is a still relatively new alias for Hungarian-born, Dublin-based Phil Robertson who has long since proven himself but is imaging to reach new heights here. This one follow sup his last outing here in December and kicks off with the dusty analogue drums of 'Moving Forward' which then comes as a more thumping and Motor City-slanted Suburban Knight remix. 'Windjana' is a synth laced hi-tek soul cut and 'Life Scenario' is a more driving and thumping techno sound with a groaning lead for darkened clubs.

Review: Behind The Mask is a brand new label from Lorenzo Aribone who sets out its sonic vision by taking care of the very first release. He uses it as an opportunity to show his range as he traverses the spectrum from techno to house and back again. 'Dfloor' is stiff industrial tech with bleeps and squeaks and metal hits. 'Mask Off' then brings some acid modulations and fizzing synth stabs that very much make for a futuristic tech house sound. He doesn't let up on the flip with 'I Show You' churning up ghoulish vocals and tough drum funk and last of all is 'Secret' which gets all punchy and tripped out and is just the sort of thing Craig Richards might play.

Review: More mysterious acid-fired fare on leading Dutch techno label Planet Rhythm. In keeping with its predecessor, released earlier this year, the 'Acid Blood' EP has no credited artist. Whoever is behind the EP has done a fine job though, with all four tracks offering an excitable, addictive blend of raw, loopy, hard-wired TB-303 riffs, bouncy techno beats and booming bass. There's plenty to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the genuinely mind-altering excellence of 'The Dream Book', which recalls the stretched-out wonder of Choice classic 'Acid Eiffel', and the layered, red raw insanity of opener 'Stickman', to the redlined insanity of 'Acid Blood' and industrial techno slammer 'Unmentionable'. Review: Vital and versatile techno label Planet Rhythm has another super dance floor adventure on its hands here with William Arist's My PH EP. It is a no-nonsense tackle from the off with 'Cloro' a blistering mix of sharp acid entangled with fizzing synth lines and pummelling drums. 'Acidificado' is even more intense, this time with banging drums falling off balance each time they land and wonky synths propping them up as best they can. The title track 'My PH' then strips things back to linear and dubbed out techno heaviness and icy hi-hats madness, all run through with molten acid. "I'm The Machine' is a video game techno frenzy with caustic, eye-watering texture.

Review: Past Inside the Present's 'Pulse' series is an investigation into ambient tech and beat-driven ambient sounds. Who better for the job on this second edition than master craftsmen ASC and Joachim Spieth? ASC opens up with 'Tidal Disruption Event', an understated, underwater rhythm with jittery percussive patterns and bright shards of melodic light piercing through the mix as more coarse soundwaves break over the top. Spieth's 'Subtle' is just as artful and delicate a mix of persuasive rhythm and melodic beauty. A classy Nitechord remix closes out this fascinating EP.

Review: Pasquale Ascione and Davide Carbone are veterans of the techno scene. Not only do they run Repitch Recordings and 3TH Records but also of course, produce music. Repitch Fast Forward outlines that each producer has a side of the record to themselves. Ascion opens with 'Hurry', a killer hard and melodic burner that features vocals from the iconic rave track C'hantal's 'The Realm'. 'Himmerbone' reminds us of Johannes Heil track that we won't give any clue too. For the second side, hard techno is on the menu. They are relentless, mechanical and industrial, these are designed with one mission in mind: to destroy the dancefloor as you raise your techno fist. They should have some warning signs before these are played like 'Helmet Only Area!'. Wicked hard!

Review: The seemingly ever-present underground stalwart that is Ellen Allien's Bpitch Control welcomes Berlin-based artist ASEC for a new EP that is inspired by "the indecision, the fear and the finality of making difficult choices. Heavy stuff for sure, and opener 'Crossing The Rubicon' sure is a dark and moody piece but also utterly danceable. The title track has a blunt, powerful kick and whirring machine percussion then 'Our Light In Momentary Troubles' gets a little more dubby, with fat bass and chunky drums. Last of all is 'Bleep Test (Tool Mix)' which is a brain-boggling and loopy techno cut with fizzing synth textures.

This six tracker is packed with punishing sounds from the off with 'Old Gem' layering up fizzing synths and slamming drums. Review: Detroit hardware jackers Ataxia return to Life & Death in the wake of their Out Of Step album from last year, and they're primed to reaffirm their dedication to heavyweight house and techno. The A side of this new record finds them teaming up with Mister Joshooa for two hot and heavy tracks - the sweaty, late night beatdown of 'Mastermind' and the pumping drum pressure of 'Doc Rickers'. 'Six Days, No Chuck' kicks off the flip with some deadly, funked up 90s rave touches while 'Keep My Youth' locks into a deeper roll with hip-hop flavoured cuts thrown in for good measure. 'Skatepark' has its own share of sample flair which adds street-level swagger to Ataxia's tough and true Detroit sound.

Review: Ilian Tape have been sympathetic to the sound of UK bass for some time now, but this new drop from Atrice leans even further into the pervading energy of dubstep as a source of club pressure. The Swiss duo first appeared on Ilian Tape with Q back in 2021, and they're sounding stronger than ever on this latest missive. If 'Multiplex' brings a cybernetic sheen to headsy 140, then 'Is It Warm' does similar work with techy d&b as the pair dice up breakbeats with precision and drape exquisite, shimmering pads over the ruffness. There's also space for crafty techno propulsion on 'Broke' and high-tempo trippiness on '83 Steps', making this a versatile, consistently brilliant release from a rising force in the scene.

Review: Aubrey has always brought a detailed sense of sound design to his heavy techno. The Berlin-based artist does that again here on a first EP on his own Solid Groveos since 2016. Two tracks delve into his archives to come up with some rare and obscure jams from the 90s. One is 'Lose Yourself' - a bright and cosmic take on techno that prime-era Derrick May would be proud of then the other, 'Breaking Out', offers golden US-style house with nice frayed synths and smoky depths. Two new cuts are 'Chase Mind' - a cavernous and dubby, with whimsical pads and unrelenting bass locking you in a trance, then 'Mr Muscle', a twisted acid techno closer that completes a varied and vital EP.

Review: The Emotec label continues to build momentum with a fresh platter from Auto Sound City aka Weapons Of Desire. This outfit already has a firm fan base in the world of breakbeat, electro and techno and all of those sound worlds are drawn upon her for four deep but impactful tracks. 'Deep Hidden Meaning' has plunging bass and a jittery electro rhythm and 'Rock Steady' keeps up the rickety metal textures and physical rhythm work, all with cosmic melodic madness. The crushing electro sounds of 'Just Do It!' will jerk any dancefloor into life and 'Dance Of The Daggers' shuts down with more menacing mixes of bass, rhythm and astral melody.
