Notes: Berlin, with all its DJs, producers and labels, as well as clubs and bars, possesses one of the most interesting and largest scenes for electronic music worldwide. "Berlin Digital" arose from the vast interest and love for the issue, as well as the conviction that it is time for such a document. It presents an assorted group of activists, who, in our opinion, are representative for the electronic music-scene and who live up to their ideas and energies on that big playground of electronic music, be it experimental electronica, house, techno or drum & bass.

Notes: Never Stop: A Music That Resists (2016, 76 mins)

Featuring the pioneers of techno music Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Carl Craig and Jeff Mills, Never Stop takes us into the fascinating universe of techno labels in Detroit.

This film highlights the deep root of the creation, more than thirty years ago, by each of the African-American pioneers of techno music, of their own record labels. It also tells and shows us how each of these artists bypassed the crisis of the record business, even though this powerful movement paradoxically emerged in Detroit.

The Cycles Of The Mental Machine (2016, 56 mins)

The Cycles Of The Mental Machine chronicles the musical legacy of Detroit, Michigan's ravaged Motor City where the great tradition of blues, gospel, jazz and Motown R&B has never died. It also tells the destiny of the young techno artists whose musical counter-culture rose from the rubble to conquer the world. Guiding us through these 'cycles' is the voice of the Electrifying Mojo, legendary DJ, poet of the Mental Machine and spiritual mentor of techno. This special, extended edition includes an exclusive, lengthy historical primer, exploring the early development of modular synthesizers from pioneering companies Moog Music Inc. and Buchla And Associates. The film makers also speak to early adopters of the modular synthesizer, pioneering musicians like Morton Subotnick and Bernie Krause. Legendary and influential electronic musicians and producers like Gary Numan, Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle), Daniel Miller and Flood offer insight into the modular synthesizer's early heyday, and eventual decline.

From there, you find out what's happening now: the phenomenal resurge of the modular synthesizer - exploring the passions, obsessions and dreams of people who have dedicated part of their lives to this esoteric electronic music machine. Meanwhile, a new generation of dance and electronica artists including James Holden, Factory Floor, Richard Devine and Clark explain why they've stepped away from laptops to embrace the sound and physicality of modular synthesizers.

Innovative companies like Modcan and Doepfer, driven by a desire to revive modular synthesizers, discuss how they planted the seeds that have now grown into a major cottage industry. What started out as a "vinrtage revival scene" in the 90s has grown into an underground phenomena with a growing market of modular obsessives craving ever more wild and innovative sounds and interfaces. Notes: Formed in 1970, Kraftwerk's contribution to the development of electronic music remains unsurpassed. Having inspired everyone from Bowie to Joy Division to Radiohead, this mysterious collective has also proven responsible for entire genres to emerge electronica, techno and synth-pop to name but three.

This DVD reviews the career and music of Kraftwerk, from their inception in the late 1960s through their most celebrated period in the mid-1970s, culminating with their resurgence during the 1980s. The film further explores how Kraftwerk both fitted into and pulled away from the electronic wing of what is often lazily referred to as Krautrock . Showing respect too for many of the groups German contemporaries from a similar impulse, and tracing the unfolding of electronics in German contemporary music generally, this programme presents a fascinating story previously untold on film.

Featuring exclusive and extensive interviews with ex-Kraftwerk members - Karl Bartos and Klaus Roder, German ambient and electronic musicians - Dieter Moebius [Kluster/Harmonia], Hans Joachim Rodelius [Kluster/Harmonia], Klaus Schulze [Tangerine Dream/ Ash Ra Tempel and Solo], Wolfgang Siedel [Eruption], Conrad Schnitzler [Kluster/Solo], Klaus Lohmer [engineer, Kraftwerk album] and many others. Also boasting further contributions from Electronic music experts and writers, and rare studio and live footage of the band, these all together make for perhaps the best film on the subject ever to emerge.

Notes: 'Opti Buk' brings together the promotional videos made by 808 State for ZTT between 1989 and 1997, many of which have never been commercially available.
