Review: Phillipi's second solo EP 'Terra Gira' lands on Deewee and is another full-throttle club excursion. 'Hacido' kicks off with pulsating techno drums and layers of shiny synth that are topped off with rubbery acid loops. 'Tensao' then sinks into a deeper groove with hints of synthwave and dark disco under a deadpan vocal. It's a strobe-lit slow burner that will cause real carnage. Review: The Take It Easy label returns with a red hot one and limited edition one-sided 12" that features a Bugsy 'ReDrum' of Wema's 'Kiherehere' cut. The original artists are a five-piece Tanzanian outfit founded on community and they have a global approach to sound that plays out here. In Bugsy's hands, it becomes a club-ready cut that fuses house and techno with the original's traditional Tanzanian instrumentals and Afro-Latin rhythms. Review: Behind The Mask is a brand new label from Lorenzo Aribone who sets out its sonic vision by taking care of the very first release. He uses it as an opportunity to show his range as he traverses the spectrum from techno to house and back again. 'Dfloor' is stiff industrial tech with bleeps and squeaks and metal hits. 'Mask Off' then brings some acid modulations and fizzing synth stabs that very much make for a futuristic tech house sound. He doesn't let up on the flip with 'I Show You' churning up ghoulish vocals and tough drum funk and last of all is 'Secret' which gets all punchy and tripped out and is just the sort of thing Craig Richards might play.

'Reptilian Tank' gets a breath of new life and a refreshing new remix by label boss Truncate. First up is the original - a head-wrecking, panel-beating techno rave-up with wispy pads and pulsating bass that is full of pent-up energy. The remix is a speedy, stripped-back version that races ahead with all the urgency of a shooting star.

Review: Polish artist Blazej Malinowski drops his first artist album on the Semantica label and it is a brilliantly personal work that showcases his trademark sounds. Between Method and Madness also fits perfectly with the MO of this vital Spanish label - exquisitely designed and deep, loopy techno that has its own sophisticated and alluring sense of dark atmosphere. Things start is low, cavernous fashion with mediative drones and groans before drums start to take more of a centre stage on cuts like 'Train Of Thoughts' and the dubby 'Colliding Atoms'. Closer 'Within A Dream' is another highlight with its suspensory pads and icy hi hats over elongated grooves that space you out perfectly.

Rose has studied with West Coast avant-garde trailblazers at Mills College and feeds their sounds through "elaborate webs of interrelated audio processing" which means a change in every element of the music has a knock-on effect on all the others. It means this is music in constant mutation.

Review: Second time around for Jean-Michel Jarre's 2022 album Oxymore, a loving tribute to French composer and 'music concrete' pioneer Pierre Henry. As the title suggests, this version features new remixes of album tracks (all of which feature sounds originally created by Henry) by a disparate group of musical talents. Review: Sindh combines old and new worlds on his latest mystic hymns, this time kicking off the A-Biotic label with his dark and alluring four-track EP 'Andaman'. The Pole rework brings more crisp hits and distant eerie drones over a more pronounced rhythm but one that remains devilishly sparse. On the flip, 'Deceivers' has more hypotonic drive - a fleshy dub stepper to lock in any 'floor and then 'Believers' slows it down to a crawl once more. An essential dub EP that promises no represses.

Review: Tale Of Us and their Afterlife label have very much carved out their own unique sound world and it is one loosely described as emotional melodic techno. Entering it this time out is a mix of artists not so often associated with that sound, particular in the case of house duo Camelphat. Here stye work with Fideles and Be No Rain on 'Night After Night,' a theatrical vocal cut with plenty of big synth drama and chill beats. Review: Released in 2002 as the Drexciya project was forced towards an untimely finish with the passing of James Stinson, Grava 4 remains a high-point in the legendary Detroit electro pioneers' catalogue. As ever, the magic of the record lies in the balance between experimental, provocative sound design and fully physical, instinctive machine funk. Stinson and Gerald Donald were able to say a great deal within the parameters of their project, and Grava 4 remains leagues ahead of what most people think electro can be. Just marvel at the likes of 'Gravity Waves', which feels like the truest representation of the genre without ever following a pre-existing formula.

Review: Adam Beyer seems to be in a superb run of late and this is his second vinyl outing in as many months. Desert Queen is pure Beyer, and pure Drumocde - drum-led techno for the main room with sweeping synths and grand vocals that are designed to impact crowds of thousands. The A-side actually brings a touch of trance energy and hard techno funk with its slamming, flat-footed drums, coarse synths and brightly lit arrangements. 'Soulful' then flips the script with a more funky groove that rocks back and forth and has funky basslines and a pitched up r&b vocal that works strangely well in the unusual context.

Review: Deetron's been turning out serene house and techno for many a year but he changes tact here and presents Soulmate on Ilian Tape. It's an EP with a wide array of influences and kicks off with 'Path' which is bright, melodic, electric house music with cow bells galore. 'Zoom' is tightly coiled, loopy, dusty, turbocharged tackle with a warming intensity and then 'Screen' pairs more balmy and blissed-out chords with hurried beats and layers of FX and percussion. Last of all is the best of the lot - 'Blade'. It's a tribal, percussive cut that cannot fail to sweep you off your feet.

Review: 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of Darren Woollard's debut release as DAWL. Since then, he's carved out his own niche as a maker of blisteringly good, retro-futurist blends of breakbeat hardcore, bleep, acid and electro. This trademark sound comes to the fore on opener 'Hear This', where alien bleeps, soundman samples and rushing riffs ride sweat-soaked breakbeat, before coming into sharper focus on the warped, analogue-rich, LFO-influenced bleep shuffle of 'Dark Chemistry'. Woollard adds a touch of funk to proceedings on energetic bleep and breaks workout 'Mindtrix', before once more reaching for dial-tone melodies, deep and dubby bass and clattering machine drums on killer closing cut 'I Control The Energy'.

Review: Spiral Tribe's Network 23 label take a hyper-kinetic trip back into the archives for this 12", pulling out classic material from core members Crystal Distortion and 69db. 'Jailbreak 96' originally came out as an untitled track on 1995 release Part 2 and it sounds as punishing as ever as Simon Carter rides bloated kicks and annihilating textures turned up to a rampant tempo. We're not sure on where 'Fridgetrax 2' was pulled from, but it's a vintage slice of freetekno nonetheless, piling on the psychoactive pressure in a style which aligns with the harder, faster strains of techno knocking about these days. On the flip, 69db's 'Night Life' keeps the pressure up - free party fodder doesn't get any more real than this.

Review: It's time for another trip around the orbit of Planet Rhythm, one of techno's finest galactic bodies. Fresko is at the control for this one and is in quite a hurry from the off. 'Post Urban Condition' is pacey but funky with its perfect designed loops rolling endlessly. 'You Have Sexy Arms' is charged with warming dub techno chords and more slick kick programming and flipside cut 'Lowme' then switches it up with a more broken beat and nice oversized hi hats. Last of all is 'School', a darker, more playful cut that completes a fine EP.

Review: This Cool Underground Music label (which came first, the name or the amusingly childish category naming system?) hails from Vancouver and welcomes Lazy Deejay for a techno outing that ends up in the stars. The Self Titled EP explores a number of different niches, with 'Conga' pairing deft broken beats with wispy pads and sustained chords while 'Peyote Dub' is more prickly techno with a passed bassline and gentle piano keys draped over the top. 'Fastrack' is a superb closer that brings dusty jungle drumming and heart-melting vocal soul samples. Deep, rolling, atmospheric, what's not to like?

Review: Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated reissue compilations of the year is this collection of Future Sound of London side projects. In 2007 this was a CD-only compilation of early 90s tracks as well as unreleased ones from the same age. As the lore of FSOL continues to grow over the past 30+ years, their side projects have gotten more and more attention from the people who love those early rave sounds. Now for the first time, a vinyl version of it with no less than a 3x12 to harness all this early 90s techno goodness. All the tracks are by Dougans and Cobain and the aliases are the same. This 2007 album however has a wealth of new material from the same time period as Earthbeat. It is amazing that one release like this by two producers can be such a prime example of the UK sound that changed dance music forever. If you want the 90s UK rave reissue of the year, here it is!

Review: After four appearances on Lithuania's Greyscale, Ajnkana delivers his first long player Integers Equations, with more than an hour of "tangibly eerie, atmospheric chords", ambience but not ambient-edged beats and dubby effects either destined for play on deeper dancefloors or comedown soundtracking post-party living room sessions. The titles may be blank as anything, all binary and consisting of 1s and 0s in slightly different orders, but the instrumental, slowly-enveloping tracks have plenty of personality. Fans of Sahko, Chain Reaction and Ilian Tape's more esoteric offerings will love it.

Review: Mighty European powerhouse Drumcode rolls out more of its techno tsunamis here with part one of the 12th volume of its A Sides collection. The boss himself, Adam Beyer, offers up one of the biggest cuts - 'Heading South' is a surging, straight-up techno weapon rippled with deft synths that ever forever on the move. Danny Avila's 'My Crew' (feat Flowdan) is built on a foundation of earth-shattering kicks and rolling bass with hellish stabs and vocal fragments making for an intense atmosphere, and Simina Grigoriu's 'Flight Tracker' is the sort of quick-moving techno sound to lock you into a trance. Add in LAAT's 'The Age Of Juno' (oi oi!) and you have a very useful and high impact EP of contemporary techno.

Review: The fourth of a series of reissues from Network 23 - which focuses on classic tracks by and adjacent to R-ZAC (Crystal Distortion and 69db) of Spiral Tribe, and which made up the bulk of the OG rave collective's live sets - the 'NET23 04' EP is a mesmerising sauna of tekno entrainments and mental sonic mares. Starting with a subtle mind-melter from Crystal Distortion, 'ESV', we move into increasingly propagandistic vibes from R-Zac - whose 'LSP23' sounds like a numbers station stuck on loop and set to a technoization - and then followed by 69db and Meltdown Mickey's 'Drivin', which returns things to their initial minimal but maddening state.

Review: Bau Muzik continues to establish itself in the new school techno realm with another backs-to-the-wall banger. Deas is in control for this one and kick off in potent fashion with dense layers of drums and-etc run through with a surging synth pulse that powers things forwards. 'Concentrate' is another cut that quickly establishes itself then rolls on and novels only subtly as it draws you into its mental maze, then things switch up with 'Flow'. It's a more wild and unhinged sound that will have the floor in raptures - if they can keep up - before 'Form' finishes things off with heavy and industrial techno loops.

Review: Tresor is a titanic techno brand that has very much had a large say in how the genre has sounded over the last few decades. The German club and label now welcomes Parisian artist UFO95 into the fold with his Backward Improvement EP which draws on elements of all the genre's many niches from London to Detroit to Berlin. 'Cogitor' is thumping and wried up with warped lines, 'Sexual Tension' has a more seductive sound with a rubbery and funky bassline and 'Fragment' then brings panel-beating loops for peak time showdowns. There is pure sci-fi atmosphere to the bells and the sonorous synths of 'Solar' and 'Gargk' closes down with a glitchy and ambient-laced breakbeat monster. Great variation makes this a useful EP.

For those that know the label and this artist, it seems like the perfect pairing. Formed in 2010, Polar Inertia has been one of the leading new producers of darker techno. The title track is opener and a sign of things to come. Futuristic techno of the upmost. These tracks engulf you with their power and depth. Some tracks are sinister and foreboding while others are atmospheric and cavernous. 'Artic Horizon' shows the deft touch of his producing ability. Sinister techno beats shrouded in a deep haze of ambience give off the impression that you are almost outside a club listening to the techno inside. For fans of techno and ambient, you are hard pressed to find a producer who does it better. These copies are sure to go fast so pick one up as quick as you can.

Review: Befitting of the label's name, Drumsauw aka. Joseph Sutherland keeps to the Code with a fresh three-tracker of megatechno heaters. Starting things off with the entraining but no less driving dreamer 'Focus', we're met with riveting sixteenthy knocks and dour breakdowns, a formula devoutly followed throughout; the B offers up two further alarmist pummellings of the third kind, with 'Set Back' repeatedly jabbing the podiatric floor with pressurised weight-kicks and offhand "push it" voxxes, and 'Escape' continuing to sound said alarm while insisting that we "escape" the laboratory, now quarantined to sift out those hesitant to dance.

Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. Over on side B, Grizzly Knuckles' 'Mad Bell' - a breathless, house tempo techno workout built around a nagging synth-bell loop - is followed by label regular The Jak's 'Aftermath', which sits somewhere between jacking lo-fi techno, UK funky and stab-happy Soca-house.

Review: Mega eerie techno from Germany's own Michael Melchner, proving techno can indeed be done differently, not least when its groceries are in season. Active since 2008, springboarding his career with the label and masters of German uniformity and drab, Cargo Edition, Melchner has since flown the nest into further-afield aerations with Paragram, Bloop Recordings and now, Different Times. 'New World Supermarket' truly sounds to be a grim sort, with the title track, together with the ensuing 'The Voyeur', 'Anatomicouture', and 'Kolonne Null', painting a rather anxious, suspenseful and brutalist picture of future grocery shopping. The closing track is something of a cathartic let-up compared to the first three, its pace relatively downtempo and its choice of samples roomy and sci-fi, though the creep factor still ever-so-slightly remains.

Review: Bulgarian techno mainstay and live performer extraordinary KiNK is back on his own Sofia label with its ninth release and it takes the form of a new collaboration with the talented Rachel Row. Review: Basel-based Morphing Territories once again heads out into unknown electronic realms on this new album Imaginary Ark. His intergalactic exploration is defined buy its supple lines and mind-melting synth pulses. They sound at once ancient and mystic but also futuristic and new. Sub-aquatic sounds and cosmic signifiers coexist with distant bird calls, ripples in space-time and slinky minimal rhythms that are ever-present. As the sounds roam onward, there are bubbling basslines and shimmering melodies, reverberating echoes and ricocheting beats that are always on the move. To craft a world as fulsome and idiosyncratic as this is no mean feat but Morphing Territories does it with aplomb.

Review: Strap in for a classic ride into the realms of techno's future here with a spellbinding EP from Falcon on SK Eleven. The opener is one of those perfectly designed and frictionless tunneling techno mind melters that you never want to end. 'Aerial' also hurries forward urgently but this time with bells and percussive texture for company. 'Outer Edge' then gets more dirty with a grubbier low end and hunched-over kick drum loops that keep you on edge. 'Circadian' shuts down with a sense of urgency and unsettling synth energy that will have you looking over your shoulder.

Review: HI LO has had some huge collabs with Filth On Acid boss Reinier Zonneveld and now makes a step up to Adam Beyer's mighty Drumcode with more of his maximal techno sounds. 'Crescendo' is a raw slammer with hard edge and raw drums hitting hard beneath incendiary hi-hats and flashes of bright synth and twisted acid. It's a main room weapon of the highest order. 'Open Your Mind' is more ragged and unhinged, it's stark hits and bulky broken techno drums beneath a raucous mix of percussion and saw-tooth synths. No messing with these two.

Review: Norm Talley returns to his Upstairs Asylum label alongside fellow US house pioneer Delano Smith for Straight Up No Chaser, an eight-track opus featuring four solo cuts each. Talley's gritty, dubbed-out, low-rolling house style is present and correct throughout with the loopy chords of 'Blak Bottom' getting things going, 'The Flip' getting more cavernous and aqueous and 'ISO Vision' leaning into dub techno. 'Believe It' is a soulful deep house looper, while Smith gets bubbly with 'The Bassline', lays down thumping kicks on 'Travels 23' and his trademark synth smears on 'The Drive' while 'Remembrance' is a heady dub house cut that locks you into a state of perfect hypnosis.

Review: Having recently released the impressively in-your-face Live at Primary CD, it's something of a surprise to see CV313 dropping another live recording so soon. To be fair, Live Excursions first surfaced digitally last year via their own Bandcamp site, and now makes its way onto CD for the first time. The recordings themselves are vintage too, having been captured at a warehouse party in Detroit back in 2001. According to the Echospace website, the tracks were performed live using only outboard kit and a 16-channel mixer, with no computer trickery. Whatever the method, the resultant tracks are long, trippy, and immersive forays into dub techno and ambient in CV313's trademark style.

His first remix is a gritty one with unresolved loops and grinding stabs that bring a raw texture to the rolling tech house beats. On the flip, the Straight Back remix is a little more late-night and woozy, with balmy pads leading gooey trails as echoing hits that disappear off into the distance. Perfect for 5 am zone-outs.

Their latest EP - another must-check release - comes from someone who comfortably sits in the second camp: long-serving British techno, ambient and IDM futurist Kirk Degiorgio. As usual, Degiorgio has delivered some effortlessly melodious, emotive and immersive fare. Review: Jeff Mills continues to gift us some utterly astounding house-tempered work from the Millsart project on this latest 12". Neo Tantric Parts draws from the deep well of Millsart archives, with 'Tear Drop Nebula' especially benefitting from a new mix as it shuffles percussion and vibraphone chimes around microtonal cascades which give the music a particularly giddy quality. 'The Phonetic World' has a punchy presence without losing that lighter style Mills adopts under this alias, while 'Neptunian Landing' heads into spookier territory with some faithful 909 hats for guidance. Watch out for 'Unidentified' though, a truly tweaked-out slice of space lounge gear for watching the walls of you mind melt after one too many solar flares.

Review: Len Faki's ambitious Fusion project aw the German techno titan really dig deep into his own production process and challenges himself to up his game. The results were superb and devastating on the floor, and so have been the remixes he has served up on his own Figure label. This collection sees some top names rework the originals into their own style with Pangaea bringing some slick future synth work to 'Space Cowboys I', Rroxymore bringing heavy percussive grooves to 'Tor 8' and Truncate adding his signature rock solid drum funk to 'It's Time (To Move Your Body).' A very useful collection for DJs and dancers.

Review: The recently started Xistence Records, is dedicated to being a beacon of quality Detroit inspired techno. The label is the home base for Phil Robertson and his own music (so far). Under the name Arbilla, this is the third release on the label. The Movement is a massive classic sounding Detroit techno that would could easily be found in the UR camp. This is that large futuristic, dystopian hi-tech jazz type sound. The B-side features remixes by Biz and then Microworld. The Biz remix is more pronounced on the rhythm and works out a few additions to the original melody successfully. Australian veteran Microworld puts a bit more muscle into the groove while still keeping things melodic and up-tempo. For fans of Detroit techno, you are going to love this.

Review: For the legendary label Tresor to put out a breakbeat record is something very rare. The ardent techno label for over 30 years is clearly telling us without saying, how good this music is. Tresor is always in touch with rave music though and it's not fully surprising that Tresor would support any music that is so reminiscent of the old skool days like Digital Entropy is. Datashader rises from the depths to give us their wicked debut. The EP is an audio onslaught that combines blistering breakbeat gems like 'Velocity 04.22' with eerie sci-fi pieces like 'Sync Out Off'. The AFX like 'Fong' and 'Sub Osc" are early favorites from those who have heard samples of this haunting record. It is rare to see the power of rave, breakbeat and IDM presented this well on one record.
