Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

Review: Erol Alkan's 2005 Bugged Out mix was a gateway release for many, soundtracking the entrance into club land, yet also introducing these virgin ears to more esoteric strains of music via the accompanying Bugged In Selection. Some seven years on, Alkan and the evergreen club brand have revisited the concept with a second edition, and like the inaugural release, the Phantasy Sound boss's ever lasting love for the vinyl format has seen a selection of tracks make the translation to this double vinyl release. Six tracks from the Bugged Out mix appear, with the Italo disco of Amin Peck brushing shoulders with Model 500 and an Obi Blanche edit of the Ron Hardy classic "Sensation", while the Bugged In Selection sees some psyche-folk fare from Buffalo Springfield and Space Lady among other gems.

Review: Aniara's output has always been brilliantly designed for club deployment but could never really be considered as mere tools. The artists who appear on the Swedish imprint have a cultured sound and a knack for crafting maximum impact from minimal elements. Enter Mattias El Masouri who does just that with the sublime 'Time Dilation In Ultraviolet'. It's a hypnotic deep house cut with real drive that's down to the deft broken kick drum patterns, pulsing synth and heady pads that swirl above. 'Inre Dimension' is a 13-minute plus sonic daydream with paddy drums, drumming pads and perfectly airy hi-hats that anchor you in the heart and now as your mind wanders.

Review: FXHE maintain their monthly heat emission for 2012, with label boss Omar S displaying all aspects of his production prowess (as well as skill for a humorous track titles) across four productions - one of which features the button bashing assistance of one Patrik Sjeren. There's something icily brilliant about the restrained "Income Tax Refund Dance" melding a dark piano riff with snapping 808 kicks and rippling lo fi rhythms which only further justifies the title of Omar S's killer 2011 LP. It's complemented by the far rowdier box jam "The White Castle Song" which jackhammers a simple yet highly flammable key riff over low rent percussion for FXHE's most potent ode to the perfect warehouse moment since the all conquering "Here's Your Trance..." Given the lack of additional info, we presume the Patrik Sjeren that produces the B Side "Untitled" track is the same Patrik Sjeren that released in the mid 90s under a multiplicity of aliases, and his contribution is every bit as incendiary as the track preceding it, whilst "3c 273" sees Omar S slip into pensive utopian electro mode with aplomb.

This time it's Romania's Borusiade and newcomer The Sixteen Steps who share two sides of a wax plate and, of course, proceed to annihilate any idea of a quiet night in. The former sets off with the mechanical acid bumps of "Infatuation", guided by an eerie set of vocal blurs, and that's followed by the comparatively more beat-centric techno of the apocalyptic "Confutation". On the flip, The Sixteen Steps first lands on "Signals From The South", a house banger with noxious levels of mutant bass at its core, followed by the single-minded industrialism and sheer techno brutality of "Promises On The Run". Review: A taster for Robert Hood's second Floorplan album, this EP puts a spotlight on the radical nature of his musical transformation. On "Music", the visceral rhythms of techno minimalism are gone; in their place is a rolling, tracky groove that boasts a repetitive vocal loop and which has shades of classic Relief /Derrick Carter. "Tell You No Lie" is even more impressive. It sees Hood use a gospel vocal over a stomping, funk guitar-sampling disco house workout. There is an audibly religious dimension to "Tell You No Lie," but Hood's knack for writing a great tune means that it sounds celebratory rather than self-indulgent or preachy.

Here he lends his consider skills to a fourth release from the Brussels label Nightflight Records. There is some glistening old school jack and cosmic synth work on opener 'Photon Stream' that gets you locked in from the off. He then shifts down a gear for the widescreen cyber-funk of 'Ancient Love' before heading off on a silky electro tip on 'There Must Be A Way.' He has a knack for sound design and crafting such powerful kicks that his tunes are always irresistible to both DJs and dancers. Review: The second salvo on Further Electronix's Shakesphere sub-label comes courtesy of Charles Green, a producer of underground techno and electro previously best known for his releases on Four Triangles and Hardgroove. His trademark style - forthright, energetic and often intense - comes to the fore on EP opener 'Edit Generation', a slamming slab of warehouse-ready techno-pump rich in beefy kickdrums, creepy sounds and loopy late-night riffs, and can also be heard on 'Mind Restore', which sounds like a wholehearted tribute to rave-era techno (all fizzing melodic riffs, deep bass and sweaty drums). Over on side B, 'Resolve Jam' is a more sci-fi flavoured techno joint, while 'Solus' is a gorgeous fusion of echoing dub techno motifs, broken techno drums and glassy-eyed electronics.

Review: As if the first two volumes of the Dimensions series weren't enough, Steve O'Sullivan is back on Sushitech with a final Parallels addendum to the collaborative series. On this occasion, the double vinyl set is reserved for four special longform mixes which let the ideas roll out in a truly hypnotic style. Of course, that's exactly how Ricardo Villalobos likes it and 'Short Circuit' tangles up beautifully in a mesh of interlocking rhythmic hiccups and immersive pads. Thomas Melchior holds down a sweet sustained groove for O'Sullivan's illustrious melodics on 'The Shadow' before Dana Ruh helps strip things down even further on the murmuring 'Beneath The Surface'. Review: While NPM's first release, which dropped earlier this year, was a classical-tinged drone EP courtesy of Giulio Aldinucci, this follow-up from Brighton-based Mause explores a simultaneously melodious, skittish, picturesque and acid-fired sound that sits somewhere between ambient techno, IDM and Rephlex-style "braindance". He first opts for a deep and beautiful sound on the thoughtful 'LocriLogAcid Seq', before ratcheting up the tempo (and minor key melodies) on the sprightly 'SeqtuningMLogAcid'. Review: Boris Barksdale's Eternal Remorse originally saw the light of day on Portugese label Eye For An Eye as a digital release back in 2018, and now it's getting a vinyl pressing. A physical release feels appropriate for this pointedly dusty release, which leans in on synthwave influences to create a thoroughly dark and gnarly atmosphere. '5.0.5' steps out on a tough, dishevelled rhythm section, with seriously degraded synths falling apart behind the jackhammer drums. '7.0.8' takes the intensity up a notch, hitting with an industrial bite, while 'Sentier' channels even more of that Ministry-flavoured malaise with its disturbing yelps and screams. 'Sramota' has the hallmarks of a mid 80s bedroom beatdown from a blackened soul, 'Take Notes' delivers yet more pounding, percussive punishment, and 'Geezer' rounds things off with a bleak and troubled slab of EBM dragged from the underworld to stalk amongst all nightcrawlers and ne'er-do-wells.

Review: Having previously operated on labels renowned for pushing a more underground or left-of-centre take on techno (think Kompakt Extra and Ellum Audio, for starters), Raxon has finally been given a chance to shine on techno's most commercially successful imprint, Drumcode. As you'd expect given the label's trademark big room sound, opener "Connection" is a little bolder than some of the Ehyptian's previous work, with foreboding, undulating bass, robotic bleeps and raw, rushing, intergalactic stabs helping to create a genuine sense of rapid forward movement. Flipside "Orbit" is equally as twisted in its own way, with wonky noises and thumping beats being contrasted by a fluttering, tech-house style lead line.

As two scene leaders of the Romanian minimal phenomenon, both artists have proven over many years to have a unique vision for creativity and fresh approaches in what can be a homogenised scene. Of their many achievements, on their Amphia label as much as elsewhere, this album on Sushitech stands as one of their finest moments. As with all the best Romanian minimal, it's also still hotly in demand, making it a welcome addition to Sushitech's 15th anniversary pressing marathon. From dub tech laced rollers to gossamer-light trippers, this is the classiest end of the minimal tech house game from two artists with the vision to push things a little bit further.

Review: Club Night Club is a new Brooklyn label born out of an event series, and they're positioning themselves squarely in the leftfield of the contemporary techno scene with a wild EP from the lesser-spotted Herron. The Manchester-based artist has slipped out a few scattered releases over the past six years, from EPs on the meandyou label he helps run, and one big drop for Peder Mannerfelt's label. This fierce return to the fray shows the producer pushing a tough yet supple strain of mutant, stepped techno with soundsystem blood pumping in its veins. It's ludicrously high-end, swimming in needlepoint sound design and yet still rough as hell, and it comes very highly recommended.

Review: These days, we're all familiar with Jan Jelinek's trademark brand of dusty, dubbed-out, jazz-sampling downtempo explorations. That wasn't the case when Loop Finding Jazz Records, his acclaimed debut album, first appeared back in 2001. It has since become an in-demand item, making this reissue more than handy. It remains a fine album; a blazed shuffle through a sonic world where dub techno, ambient, minimal house, jazz and downtempo grooves and seductive vinyl crackle merge into one intoxicating hybrid sound. It's not showy and over-the-top, but rather becalmed and subtly seductive. In other words, it's still a brilliant album and if you don't own already own a copy, you should add this to your cart sharpish.

Review: Wanderwelle & Bandhagens Musikforening's masterful Victory Over The Sun album gets skilfully reinterpreted by some of techno's most forward thinking protagonists. Amsterdam pair Wanderwelle themselves go first with a misty ambient take of 'An Unusual Sunrise' that sets a perfectly dramatic scene. Label boss Sverca serves up one of the highlights with his deep, pulsing hypnotic version of the title track and Anthony Linell sinks us way down below the ocean surface on his meditative dub roller. There is more energy to the busted beats and hidden vocal sounds of Celestial Crusade (E-Saggila remix) and plenty more greatness through the other tracks.

Review: Shall Not Fade is in unstoppable form right now. The label is putting out a high rate of high quality releases hat traverse a broad electronic spectrum. Liam Doc is next up to take the mantle and head with it into colourful techno territory. The amusingly titled 'Jamie Said It Was Wicked' is a warm, twisted affair to build the tension and elsewhere there is glitchy broken beat techno funk on 'Icarus', old school jungle rollers like '2008' and bass heavy rhythmic workouts like 'Looks Like A Mad Place.' This nimble producer goes on to pull off even more impressive, inventive tricks on the final two tunes to make this a real standout.

Review: Gesloten Cirkel is back on Murder Capital! Is he the mysterious Russian producer he claims to be or in fact I-f, or someone else? Let's not speculate and focus on the music, shall we... First track "The Real Melbourne House" seemingly references down under, and is it a whimsical, albeit, cheeky one to the city's flourishing deep house circuit, we'll probably never know. "Acid Stakan" once more riffs on the Humanoid sound of "Stakker" with haunting John Carpenter strings, it's the real highlight here. On the flip is "Never", a 14-minute-long epic of dark, slow burning and mysterious 303s. Tip.

Review: Charlotte de Witte takes care of the sixth outing on her ever more prominent KNTXT label, and does so with her usual sense of techno power. "Sgadi Li Mi" opens in hard hitting fashion, with laser-link synths shooting across the face of the cantering drums and distant vocal cries adding a churchy feel to the arrangement. "Return To Nowhere" dials it back to a more shuffling techno groove and "Ensemble" offers perfectly transcendental techno for late night reveries. Enchanting ambient vocal "What's In The Past" closes out a forceful EP.

You may have already heard the track bouncing around the odd mix or two for those with a penchant for full-fat hard dance with a wry comedic edge. On one hand it's a patriotic pelter, on the other it's a neo-rave laff which will comfortably lodge itself in your brain, more than ably backed up by some more wayward ravey gags and headsy gear (watch out for the simmering, heads-down wave-splashed techno of 'Keep Him On The Line'. Review: Sushitech presents the last part of its 15th anniversary reissues series. Timeless reworks of Paul St. Hilaire & Rhauder's now classic 2018 release 'Reconstructed', featuring legendary producers such as Rominimal heroes Amorf who provide a typically hypnotic reinterpretation of Control, Dutch minimal house maestro Ion Ludwig retains the dubby elements of the original on his rework of 'Stabilized' and likewise Steve O'Sullivan remains in glacial and cavernous territory on another sublime perspective of 'Control'. Elsewhere, Thomas Melchior serves up a typically arcane venture into the deep on his version of 'Dim Dim', while the much missed Soulphiction provides the perfect majestic backdrop for St. Hilaire's amazing vocals play centre stage on his version of 'Redeem'.

Review: It may have taken a while - his massive debut single 'Hyph Mngo' was released 12 years ago - but Joy Orbison has finally got round to recording his debut album. It's a highly personal affair, peppered with speech snippets from various family members (including his mum, dad, sister, cousins and famous uncle, Ray Keith). It's a narrative device that works well, providing a unifying thread throughout a woozy, musically eclectic concoction that sees the now veteran UK producer give his distinct spin on ambient, slow house, two-step garage, deep house, post-dubstep beats, dubbed-out soundscapes, British bass music, experimental electronica, cutting-edge deep D&B and much more besides. It's perhaps not the all-out assault on the dancefloor some may have expected, but it is a genuinely brilliant and entertaining album.

Review: For years, this record remained a genuine collector's piece - an impossible-to-find, early-to-mid 1990s collaboration between AO Records founder Obi - a Japanese producer then based in London, and a member of an ambient dub act called Subsurfing - and Drum Club/Spiral Tribe sort Charlie Hall. It's fantastic that it has finally been reissued, because all three tracks are brilliantly odd, immersive and intoxicating. A-side cuts 'La Bamba' and 'House Pod' mix elements of digi-dub, ambient techno and what was once called 'worldbeat' in thrilling, hard-to-describe ways, while flipside 'Dreamtech' is an epic slab of psychedelic ambient dub techno that expertly incorporates elements of tribal house. An original copy would cost you hundreds of pounds, so don't sleep on this 2022 edition.

Review: David Sabel is Birds Ov Paradise, a sound and visual artist from Goteborg, Sweden, who after a few years away makes a retune to the Hypnus Records label. He makes techno with a soft melodic sheen and psychedelic approach that burrows deep into your brain. 'Osiris' is a track with intrigue and mystery that draws you into the rippling melodic motifs, 'Tammuz' is dubby and warped and deep, 'Adonis' is another cavernous sound with watery droplets and bird calls adding detail, with three further mind melting excursion not he flip including the darker 'Attis.'

Review: After being commissioned to produce several 'interlocking' ambient pieces for an art gallery piece in LA, Brian Foote and Sage Caswell decided to take the concept of 'audience crossfading' to the next level, creating an entire ambient album using a particular sonic technique. Over five long pieces from 'Waterwheel' to 'Smiley', their aim was to evoke the feeling of bodies moving in thoroughfares. The tracks are long-exposed movements captured in ambient space, blending rhythms and soundscapes for chillout rooms that exist only in memory now.

Review: Egyptian artist Raxon continues to make big waves with his widescreen astral techno. He has often landed on Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio label land that is where he returns now with another club-ready two tracker that is designed to make for some epic moments in big spaces. Opener 'Mantis' has heavy, churning drums and plenty of twitchy synths, turbo-charged sci-fi stabs and cosmic intentions. On the flip is 'Input Robot', a bouncy bit of elastic techno with more jostling drum work and plenty of astral synths make it an expansive groove. Review: Revelation - not the 70s soul and disco group but in this case, the short-lived house duo from New York City - dropped just three EPs and this was the second one from 1990. 'Synth It' is a mix of sounds with phenomenal synth work. The poised techno chords are balanced with electro roots and a squelchy acid line then you get a weird and wonderful bleepy dub trance sound on 'First Power (Domination Dub).' It is loved up and very special. Add in two other fine versions and you have a killer reissue here.

Review: The mighty Drumcode has retained its position at the top table of main room techno again this year. That's through a mix of big parties, big sets from theirs Adam Beyer alongside his associates, and big tunes. The last of 2022 comes from Layton Giordani and is another one that doesn't muck about. 'Digital Age' is a steam train with powerful and immovable drums and frosted synths before a breakdown brings melodic drama. On the flip, 'UFOs & LFOs' brings some big trance energy with bright, flash synths that will get hands in the air. Two more winners, then.

Review: A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

Review: The latest from Steve O'Sullivan and Mosaic's archive-raiding series sees the first ever airing of an unreleased extended mix of the soft and soul-drenched 'Composure', plus two choice selections on the flip - the sleek sub-bass powered 'She Don't Do Chicks' and a dub mix of the equally streamlined 'Bumper Car'. If the A-side is a luxurious period piece of sorts - it could be related to Underground Resistance's 'Galaxy 2 Galaxy' for instance - then two on the other side could have been made yesterday they're so relevant and playable, coasting along with the kind of subtly jacking framework and dubby basslines that G Man made his own. Review: On the latest instalment of Palm Beach Records' Secret series, regular contributor Fred Hush is once again at the controls. This time round, we not only get unheard original cuts but remixes, too - including Hush and Dimitri Andreas's stripped back but stomping, ever-building 'remake' of Emmanuel Top's 'Acid Phase'. There's plenty to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the sub-heavy, subtly bleep-influenced hedonism of techno roller 'Close Your Eyes', a riff-heavy, warehouse-ready old school techno re-wire of 'I Say' courtesy of Noeda, and a ridiculously heavy, rave-igniting re-imagining of the same track by Klaudia Gawlas that could be compared positively to the work of Amelie Lens.
