Review: There is a heavyweight selection of names on this first release from Norm Talley's promising new label Upstairs Asylum. Firstly, the man himself is a Motor City heavyweight who links with fellow luminary Omar S on the opener 'Muggy Detroit Heat.' It's an intense and steamy house track that bristles with raw melody. On the flip, French house icon D'Julz reworks a tune by Norm in cahoots with the one and only Moodymann. This one is all cuddly chords, romanic vocal chops and warm, rough edged house beats for those cosy basements.

Review: Back in 2011, Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper debuted their Director's Cut project by teaming up with old pal Jamie Principle on "I'll Take You There". Here it gets the reissue treatment, with a trio of classic mixes being joined by a fresh revision from scalpel maestro Moplen. His version is delicious, with Principle's loved-up vocal rising above bubbly synth-bass, evocative organ lines, swirling synthesizer motifs and sunrise chords. There's another chance to enjoy Director's Cut's own warm and glassy-eyed "Signature Remix", a second spin for Dimitri From Paris's slightly breezier (but no less loved-up) re-edit and a boisterous funky house rework from the Shapeshifters that some may have missed first time around.

Review: The idea behind the Snatch Classics series, which is finally making its vinyl debut following a few tester releases digitally, is deliciously simple. It sees label founder Riva Starr and friends deliver fresh interpretations of classic cuts. On side A you'll find a fresh take on Bob Sinclar's "French touch" filter disco anthem 'I Feel For You' by Star B - AKA Starr and UK techno stalwart Mark Broom. Their version is chunky, energetic, loopy and bass-heavy, re-framing the cut as a tech-funk workout with added string-laden disco chops. Over on the reverse, Starr re-edits and pimps up Groove Armada's 'Superstylin', making it even more sub-heavy, dubbed-out and boisterous (albeit in a rather classy way, we think). Review: Leftfield French artist Pepe Bradock cannot be second guessed. One moment he's crafting some of deep house's most seminal grooves, then he's sampling cats on barely listenable experimental records and everything in between. For a while now the man behind 'Deep Burnt' has been working on his on going Dactilonomy series, and it now hits a fourth volume. The artist himself provides note with the music, saying "Dring Dring Dring! the phone keeps ringing but nobody answers. Gone fishing, ( les gros matous sont partis a la peche)," which tells us nothing but rest assured the beats do plenty of talking for him.

Review: Parisian producer Leo Pol is back after a great release on Velvet back in 2014 that showed his potential to create some deep, dusty and totally tripped out house for the afterhours, particularly on the Le Chat Qui Danse EP. He now inaugurates local label IILE (a sublabel of Uniile) with some more hypnotic subtlety; even if it is tougher and faster than his previous effort. There's the opener "2 La Deep De Bretagne" which really rolls deep. "Korben Dallas" gets its swing on in infectious fashion, much like local homeboy Varhat can. On the flip, he teams up with Marc on "21" for a bumpy and minimal jam while closing out the EP is the absolutely sublime "Parking" which is sexy and summery and has a certain DJ Gregory flavour about it.

Review: All that jelly and no toast - like when you find a bomb tune that's unavailable on 12". The new sublabel of Smile for a While is exactly about this. Clubby House Music by well-established producers as well as from lesser-known guys. French guy Alex Agore opens the EP with the Lowtone remix of "What Did I Do" - cut-up Garage House to the maxx. Max Chapman from London delivers another belter; a bassline-driven organ House tune with a minimalistic but very effective set-up. Oleg Poliakov - aka SKAT and one of the guys behind Circus Company - comes up with a sublime but powerful Tech House tune, in the original sense of the genre name. "Jazzve" is a tune by Russian producer Mutenoise. It's maybe the most original, innovative tune on this EP. Full of surprises and cutting-edge elements - hard to compare to anything else around these days.

Review: Courtesy of Balance is the Balance sister label run by Frenchman Brawther, who Chicago house great Chez Damier credits with getting him back in the game several years ago, after he had taken a step away. This is another super smooth and seductive deep house sound, with Grant & Finnoh laying down warm, rolling beats, dubbed-out chords and heady vocal whispers. Brawther brings out the jazziness with his slightly more up-tempo remix and finally, Zansika sinks you into a late-night reverie with her dreamy and loved-up remix.

Review: Fans of traditional US house - and why wouldn't you be - will salivate over this new EP from the Plastik People label. It's a pure and feel-good four tracker steeped in New York style that brings those magic 90s vibes to the dance floor. First up is the warm and bouncy '4 Real' (937 main mix) with its dumpy kicks and humid organic chords, then 'Psycho Times' ups the pace with a nice grinding bassline and heavy US garage vibes in the chuffing kicks while 'Dusty Sound' owes a debt to the one and only Kerri Chandler for its lush and jazzy musicality. Timeless stuff.

Review: Politics Of Dancing once again gets our vote here with some balmy deep house propositions from the eponymous production team working alongside French stylist Djebali. 'Close To Gate' layers balmy pads and smeared chords over punchy and dynamic drums with plenty of cosmic effects up top. There is a little more urgency to 'Soul Brothers' which skates and skips along nicely beneath shimmering vocals sounds and wispy melodies. 'Simple Minds' brings more physical drum work and infectious finger clicks while the Franco Cinelli remix gets things on more of a breezy and rolling tip. A useful, heartwarming EP of modern deep house music.

Review: Last time out, Stefan Ringer came well and truly correct for People of Earth, so the follow up EP was always going to be a tough challenge. French producer Hugo LX proves himself more than worthy of the job, however with this superb deep and spaced out four tracker. 'Freedom House Dance' is the opener, and rides on waves of cosmic synths and deft pads. 'Catching Thunder' is more business like thanks to the chattering claps and more direct and purposeful bassline. 'Track three layers in some doleful trumpets to a taught baseline to make for stylish jazz vibe and lastly, you're cast off into the universe on a wave of infinite pads and meandering leads.

Review: Correcciones Calypso returns from a generous hiatus with the fourth edition of its acclaimed edit series, replete with four re-edits that veer from the subtle to the downright brazen. Thomass Jackson and INigo Vontier invite the French duo Youkounkoun to open proceedings with an insane early 80s edit full of big drums and exotic touches that's been blowing dancefloors all around the world for the past years - and definitely resides in the brazen category, despite a lot of work having gone into it. Olta Karawame make their debut on the series with a powerful, compact edit full of ballsy keyboard riffing and a military-sized kick drum that is guaranteed to have heads banging . To complete the release label bosses Thomass and INigo deliver edits of their own with their characteristic sound, giving this EP maximum a value for money factor and entertainment from start to finish.

Review: After establishing his name with a pair of rock-solid EPs on F*CLR Music, Glenn Davis established Deeper Groove Recordings as an outlet for his sparkling, melody-rich club workouts. A Place For You, his third outing on the imprint, is undeniably gorgeous - especially the EP-opening title track, where colurful synth riffs, sustained synth-strings and sun-splashed chords leap above a tactile deep house groove. The positivity, warmth and sonic colour continues on the chunkier and groovier 'Take Me To The Club', which is given a more thickset, classic U.S deep house-sounding rework by veteran deep house don Franck Roger. To round off an excellent EP, the Irish producer opts for a spiritually rich, piano-laden sound (and a killer analogue bassline) on 'Who Are People'.

Review: Rutilance strikes gold with this new Ep from DJ Steaw. Is there anyone out there right now making house music as visceral, sweaty and emotive as this man? Right form the off his 'Paradise 2020' gets the party going with its big balmy pads, flexing bassline and slinky drum work. 'What You Need' sinks into a nice succulent garage swing, with headier chords and female coos making for a sweet late night feel. 'Dancin' is all classy electronic funk and fist pumping beats for those cosy back rooms and 'Pulpy' (Nj mix) is a fourth and final timeless house gem.

Review: We know you're not supposed to because it's often said to be a cheap marketing gimmick but frankly, we love a good anonymous new producer to get wondering about. And here we have just that in the form of Skat who opens a new series with a one-sided 12". 'Skat 01' is a worthy tech cut with minimal drums loops and brushed metal surfaces all wound up into a tight groove and overlaid with some rudely vocal raps. It's the sort of tune that brings a unique character to any set and is sure to get the crowd demanding its ID.

Review: Three sumptuous offerings of quality grooves from the Aesthetic series, as Paris club scene fave Djebali and Argentinian DJ and producer Jorge Savorett join forces once again. This choice trio definitely veers on the side of the under rather than over stated, preferring to rely on warm rhythmic flourishes and enticing, inviting instrumentation rather than thumping firepower or gimmickry. The beats are tight and hypnotic, with perhaps just the slightest hint of a nod to the shuffling drum machine funk of early Derrick May productions like 'Nude Photo' here and the more head nodding repetition of Chicago jack house there. Aesthetically pleasing for sure.

Review: French producer Anaxander follows up great releases by legends Reggie Dokes and Kai Alce on new imprint People Of Earth. He's had a steady output in the last few years releasing on the likes of Local Talk, Dame Music and Tasteful Nudes to name but a few. "Chords & Theories" is delightfully dusty deep house with a swing fuelled rhythm, emotive chords and epic piano stabs. On the flip "Stay Another Day" is the kind of classic early 90's Chicago deep house that's so sincere you could have sworn it was a lost tape from the Prescription or Alleviated catalogue from way back when. Finally "Naked Truth" gets a bit more uptempo on this soulful deep techno jam with rich synth tapestries and syncopated rhythms. Tip!

Review: GLBDOM sub-label GLBDOM Classic is dedicated to nostalgic house sounds inspired by the great styles of Chicago, Detroit and New York vibes, with hints of Italo-Dream house and even the Balearics. We get all that here on this new split EP from French house producer Sunny Galaxy and Englishman Dan T. Sunny opens up with some happy, piano-laced party starters, well-swung garage-house grooves and steamy basement jams, then Dan T offers a B-side trio headed up by the gloriously vocal laced 'Wrong Time.' Review: Pure melodic tech-house from German artist Sebastian Leger, who has been a part of the All Day I Dream camp for a god whale now. 'Regina Blue' hears three joyous cuts make it to wax, all of which are characterised by fluttery electronics and harmonies on many a sine-textured synth. The main highlight is 'We Used To Laugh', which is seriously deep in its arpeggiated flourishes and pentatonic chords, which emboss the mix's depth to the extent that we can almst feel ourselves falling into the song.

He brings his usual stylish sounds to four cuts that cover all forms of house. Review: Sweely is one of the strongest producers in the European house scene for almost a decade now. This house wizard from Lyon, France has made the rounds on some of the most acclaimed labels during that time. In late 2022 he released his first album Closer Energy. The album is still consistently wowing people and even peers of Sweely. So much so that this EP is now here with key tracks from that release being mixed by artist friends who also are loving the album. Included is the killer, club rocking David Garrett remix of 'Security'. Huerta also gets in on the fun and offers his standout remix of 'Call Me Tonight'. Review: Talc's 'De Gui Ding' is a much-deserved follow up to the duo's 2006 hit singles 'Modern Sleepover' parts 1 and 2, which lyrically detailed a failed romance between a hapless human lover and his own computer, against a futuristic yet slow disco backdrop. A listless love song for Linux laptops, it now comes repackaged with several new reworkings, as well as the much higher-energy 'De Gui Ding', filtered french house tropes and blue-note saxfunk aplenty.

Review: Nu Groove is one of those labels that everyone who knows recognises as having played a key part in the early house movement. Based out of the New York scene on the East Coast it had a distinctive 90s deep house sound which DJ Steaw now taps into but with his own twist. His grooves are jacked up and analogue, densely packed but high on warmth and soul. 'Take It There' is a prickly opener and 'Seascape' then brings some acid. 'Close To U' has a more low-slung groove that is peppered with raw claps and last of all, 'Exotica' brings some cosmic synth work to crisp, funked-up and electro-tinged rhythms.

Review: Sweely has been making moves for a while in underground fires. He's dropped his stylish electronic sounds on labels like Bunter Side Up to great acclaim and now gets the nod from another revered UK outlet in Lobster Theramin. This red and gold 12" finds the producer offering up some tracks from his archives, starting with the balmy and bumpy depths of 'Stronger Than Me'. As always the synths are lithe and neon in colour, liquid in design and restless in the way they bounce about the mix over the kinetic, infectious drums. It's a similar story with the rest of these club-ready but charming cuts.

Review: The Phonogramme label is a real stamp of house quality, whether serving up deep, French or garage-tinged. This new 12" from Lucas Monet does a bit of all that and more. 'Low Gravity' (feat Dusty Fingers - Deeper dub is a classic New Jersey sound with neon chords and Kerri Chandler kicks. 'Losing You' (Paradise mix) has a more optimistic and upbeat feel with organ stabs and finger clicks and 'Deep In The Blue' (937 club mix) has a little more jack and swing to it. 'Music' (UKG Private mix) shuts down with an irresistible old school groove full of love.

Review: Life Recorder knows how to get plenty of meaning and character out of the machines he uses to make his classically included house music. He proves that once more with a fresh outing on Vision Recordings that opens with 'Machines In My Head'. It's an unhurried cut with bendy synth lines bringing elastic movement to the rolling drums. 'The Spirit Alive' then rocks back and forth on hefty kicks full of reverb and 'Galaxy' gets more freaky and twitchy with pixelated leads and swathes of crystalline synth washing over the drums. 'The Space Channel' rounds out this most heady and atmospheric of EPs with another balmy mix of cosmic synths and classic four-four drum programming.

Review: Kiko & POPOF deliver a new 'minimal' EP that both kicks and pops off. 'Night Sky', however, abstracts the 'minimal' style into something that is actually quite maximal; though duly working in the tech house formula, the sound palette is dystopian and dark. Doing justice to the French pair's long-standing good rep - Kiko has but 500+ releases to his name - it's only natural that we hear something so fresh. Transformer sound FX and sci-fi impacts adorn each transition, especially on Yulia Niko and Mia Mendi's remixes, coaxing out twin states of ecstasy and dread.

Review: Skylax offshoot Wax Classic is not a reissue label, as some might imagine, but rather an outlet for fresh productions rooted in vintage house and U.S garage sounds. French artist Nicolas Aftalion is the producer at the controls on the label's latest EP, marking his return to wax after seven long years. He first doffs a cap to Kerri Chandler classic 'Bar a Tym' and chunky, funky '90s house on 'Rue Des Wallons', before opting for breezier synth stabs, rubbery bass and sweaty beats on 'NY Hoodz'. With its' eyes-closed, classic-sounding female vocal samples and jaunty keyboard stabs, 'High Life' has a rushing early '90s U.S house flavour, while 'When You Come Home' brilliantly brings the curtain down on a deliciously old school-sounding EP.

Review: The latest addition to House Puff records, Dutch DJ Aron Volta teams up with Frenchman DJ Steaw for the first in a series of exciting house EPs. Steaws' soul-inspired, bass-rich productions are the perfect counterbalance to the rolling groove on Volta's side 1, with 'Room 101' having a disco feel, whilst 'Lyre' borrows from trance sensibilities in its melodies. Side 2 sees the bass turned up a notch in piano house cut 'Inner Beauty', borrowing from classic New York 80s House, and a more melodic, rhythmic 'Cosmic Dream' is a throwback fantasy for house oldheads. Review: Dutch label PIV is doing a fine job of evolving the contemporary house sound with its slick electronic take on the timeless genre. This next EP is a mouthwatering one that brings together two of the best - Frenchman Djebli and legendary West Coast tech innovator Hipp E. They find a perfect sweet spot between their sound with 'Fall Into Groove' fusing funk kissed synth funk goodness with lush rolling beats. 'Supa Star' is another tightly coiled and balmy number with atmospheric vocals and lively percussive energy. The flip brings 'Hang Around' with another perfectly catchy and super breezy house groove and a rework of the opener that has a more cosmic future feel.
