Review: The fourth and final studio album from the now disbanded French electronic duo, Daft Punk, Random Access Memory gets a re-release on Sony complete with an exclusive poster and 16-page booklet. This release pays tribute to late 1970s and early 1980s American music, particularly the sounds hailing from Los Angeles at the time. For this seismic album, the band developed and enriched the minimalist production style typical of their previous releases though collaborating with session musicians performing live instrumentation, limiting the use of electronic instruments to simple drum machines, a custom-built modular synthesiser, and their signature vintage vocoders. Spanning an impressive selection of genres from disco, to prog rock and pop, the album also boasts a serious list of chart-topping collaborators - from Nile Rodgers, to Pharrell Williams, to Giorgio Moroder. Featuring hit single, 'Get Lucky', this album is already considered a defining release of the 2010s pop/electronic landscape.

Review: With each album, Daft Punk threw down something new for their mammoth fanbase to deal with. Never ones to repeat themselves or play it safe, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo ruffled feathers when they followed up the pop-tastic heights of Discovery with the rock-tinted stylings of Human After All. In hindsight, with the world-beating project brought to an end, the album sounds like Daft Punk through and through, not least on lead single 'Robot Rock', but full credit to them for not taking the easy route to give the fans what they want. As we reflect on the legacy of one of the biggest dance acts of all time, it's a fine time to revisit this album with a sparkling new pressing as part of the Daft Life Ltd series.

Review: Parisian producer Leo Pol is back after a great release on Velvet back in 2014 that showed his potential to create some deep, dusty and totally tripped out house for the afterhours, particularly on the Le Chat Qui Danse EP. He now inaugurates local label IILE (a sublabel of Uniile) with some more hypnotic subtlety; even if it is tougher and faster than his previous effort. There's the opener "2 La Deep De Bretagne" which really rolls deep. "Korben Dallas" gets its swing on in infectious fashion, much like local homeboy Varhat can. On the flip, he teams up with Marc on "21" for a bumpy and minimal jam while closing out the EP is the absolutely sublime "Parking" which is sexy and summery and has a certain DJ Gregory flavour about it.

Review: Courtesy of Balance is the Balance sister label run by Frenchman Brawther, who Chicago house great Chez Damier credits with getting him back in the game several years ago, after he had taken a step away. This is another super smooth and seductive deep house sound, with Grant & Finnoh laying down warm, rolling beats, dubbed-out chords and heady vocal whispers. Brawther brings out the jazziness with his slightly more up-tempo remix and finally, Zansika sinks you into a late-night reverie with her dreamy and loved-up remix.

Review: Politics Of Dancing once again gets our vote here with some balmy deep house propositions from the eponymous production team working alongside French stylist Djebali. 'Close To Gate' layers balmy pads and smeared chords over punchy and dynamic drums with plenty of cosmic effects up top. There is a little more urgency to 'Soul Brothers' which skates and skips along nicely beneath shimmering vocals sounds and wispy melodies. 'Simple Minds' brings more physical drum work and infectious finger clicks while the Franco Cinelli remix gets things on more of a breezy and rolling tip. A useful, heartwarming EP of modern deep house music.

Review: Correcciones Calypso returns from a generous hiatus with the fourth edition of its acclaimed edit series, replete with four re-edits that veer from the subtle to the downright brazen. Thomass Jackson and INigo Vontier invite the French duo Youkounkoun to open proceedings with an insane early 80s edit full of big drums and exotic touches that's been blowing dancefloors all around the world for the past years - and definitely resides in the brazen category, despite a lot of work having gone into it. Olta Karawame make their debut on the series with a powerful, compact edit full of ballsy keyboard riffing and a military-sized kick drum that is guaranteed to have heads banging . To complete the release label bosses Thomass and INigo deliver edits of their own with their characteristic sound, giving this EP maximum a value for money factor and entertainment from start to finish.

Review: After establishing his name with a pair of rock-solid EPs on F*CLR Music, Glenn Davis established Deeper Groove Recordings as an outlet for his sparkling, melody-rich club workouts. A Place For You, his third outing on the imprint, is undeniably gorgeous - especially the EP-opening title track, where colurful synth riffs, sustained synth-strings and sun-splashed chords leap above a tactile deep house groove. The positivity, warmth and sonic colour continues on the chunkier and groovier 'Take Me To The Club', which is given a more thickset, classic U.S deep house-sounding rework by veteran deep house don Franck Roger. To round off an excellent EP, the Irish producer opts for a spiritually rich, piano-laden sound (and a killer analogue bassline) on 'Who Are People'.

Review: Rutilance strikes gold with this new Ep from DJ Steaw. Is there anyone out there right now making house music as visceral, sweaty and emotive as this man? Right form the off his 'Paradise 2020' gets the party going with its big balmy pads, flexing bassline and slinky drum work. 'What You Need' sinks into a nice succulent garage swing, with headier chords and female coos making for a sweet late night feel. Review: If there was ever a duo with the bombast and flair to pull off the 18-minute electro-rock-opera, it's surely Justice. Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay created Planisphere in the wake of conquering the world with their debut album Cross, initially for use on the catwalk but subsequently shared on their MySpace. Of course such releases now attain a kind of cult mythos, and Planisphere is no exception. In the Ed Banger era of dirty French touch, this is a fans dream come true - the gnarly monster that keeps on giving, now pressed up on a single side of vinyl for continuous listening, with a classy etching on the reverse.

Review: We know you're not supposed to because it's often said to be a cheap marketing gimmick but frankly, we love a good anonymous new producer to get wondering about. And here we have just that in the form of Skat who opens a new series with a one-sided 12". 'Skat 01' is a worthy tech cut with minimal drums loops and brushed metal surfaces all wound up into a tight groove and overlaid with some rudely vocal raps. It's the sort of tune that brings a unique character to any set and is sure to get the crowd demanding its ID.

Review: Electric Mojo is an American label that is decided to reissue plenty of the golden oldies of techno, big euro-dance hits and plenty of French and filter house gems, which is exactly what we have on this latest instalment. TB's version of 'So Much Love To Give' opens up and it is a huge wall of pixelated synth sounds that fizzes over you like breaking waves as the loopy vocal rings out for all the sing back. On the flip side you find DJ F's 'Together' which is less intense in its loops but just as infectious - the cold drums, warmer vocal loops and endlessly cycling synths will all work any dancefloor into a lather.

Review: Three sumptuous offerings of quality grooves from the Aesthetic series, as Paris club scene fave Djebali and Argentinian DJ and producer Jorge Savorett join forces once again. This choice trio definitely veers on the side of the under rather than over stated, preferring to rely on warm rhythmic flourishes and enticing, inviting instrumentation rather than thumping firepower or gimmickry. The beats are tight and hypnotic, with perhaps just the slightest hint of a nod to the shuffling drum machine funk of early Derrick May productions like 'Nude Photo' here and the more head nodding repetition of Chicago jack house there. Aesthetically pleasing for sure.

Review: French producer Anaxander follows up great releases by legends Reggie Dokes and Kai Alce on new imprint People Of Earth. He's had a steady output in the last few years releasing on the likes of Local Talk, Dame Music and Tasteful Nudes to name but a few. "Chords & Theories" is delightfully dusty deep house with a swing fuelled rhythm, emotive chords and epic piano stabs. On the flip "Stay Another Day" is the kind of classic early 90's Chicago deep house that's so sincere you could have sworn it was a lost tape from the Prescription or Alleviated catalogue from way back when. Finally "Naked Truth" gets a bit more uptempo on this soulful deep techno jam with rich synth tapestries and syncopated rhythms. Tip!

'Night Sky', however, abstracts the 'minimal' style into something that is actually quite maximal; though duly working in the tech house formula, the sound palette is dystopian and dark. Doing justice to the French pair's long-standing good rep - Kiko has but 500+ releases to his name - it's only natural that we hear something so fresh. Transformer sound FX and sci-fi impacts adorn each transition, especially on Yulia Niko and Mia Mendi's remixes, coaxing out twin states of ecstasy and dread.

Review: Skylax offshoot Wax Classic is not a reissue label, as some might imagine, but rather an outlet for fresh productions rooted in vintage house and U.S garage sounds. French artist Nicolas Aftalion is the producer at the controls on the label's latest EP, marking his return to wax after seven long years. He first doffs a cap to Kerri Chandler classic 'Bar a Tym' and chunky, funky '90s house on 'Rue Des Wallons', before opting for breezier synth stabs, rubbery bass and sweaty beats on 'NY Hoodz'. Review: The latest addition to House Puff records, Dutch DJ Aron Volta teams up with Frenchman DJ Steaw for the first in a series of exciting house EPs. Steaws' soul-inspired, bass-rich productions are the perfect counterbalance to the rolling groove on Volta's side 1, with 'Room 101' having a disco feel, whilst 'Lyre' borrows from trance sensibilities in its melodies. Side 2 sees the bass turned up a notch in piano house cut 'Inner Beauty', borrowing from classic New York 80s House, and a more melodic, rhythmic 'Cosmic Dream' is a throwback fantasy for house oldheads. Review: As far as r&b cuts go, they don't come much better or more loved than 'The Boy Is Mine', but that hasn't stopped James Mac and Vall from serving up their own version of it in a new deep house framework. They start off with warm rolling drums and embellish it with lush piano chords full of melancholy then Rosalie reins the vocal up top. It's as catchy and heartfelt as the original. On the flip is Funkerman with a much more raw and direct remix that has crisp drums and plenty of snares fills as chunky bass funk hits hard below.

Review: Esteemed French producer Franck Roger lands on the Duck It label for the first time here. It is an imprint dear to him because of his Algerian originals and he cooks up a nice warm house vibe as a result. 'Pumpkin' is all balmy pads and trippy synth leads with a hint of Pepe Bradock. The tune is chunky and deep, with nice deft vocal sounds up top to bring the soul. RSlane remixes with a more contemporary and bumping tech house sound but still keeps plenty of the stylish cosmic melody in place. A tidy two tracker for sure.

Review: Marseille based Rafael Cerato is known for his emotional techno sound that has been heard on top labels like Diynamic Music, Stil Vor Talent, and his very own Ritual. He's also become quite the staple on Marc Romboy's Systematic Recordings, which back in 2015 released his anthemic 'Sekater', a sublime expression in dancefloor drama which still sounds as good today. Review: A year on from the first installment, French electro stable Partout are back with a second volume of Everywhere, introducing the world to more of their deep cover operators working their studios in pursuit of machine funk perfection. AV1 leads with some trippy acid goodness, while Binh Baggs has a techier intention. The Trots bring something ghoulish and nasty to the table with 'Pelusa', while Yate plays around with trancey tropes in a gnarly rave context. There's bags of personality spilling out of these tracks, confirming Partout as a reliable destination for refreshing approaches to the electro-techno tradition.

Review: The second Abstract Cuts release is an EP split four ways, but with new, unconventional approaches to the dancefloor at the heart of each submission and all using vintage drum machines and samplers. The Robot Dance Connection's 'Powers Of Ten' (R2d2 live edit) kicks off side one, shiny high frequency polish played off against a gorgeously stubborn techno beat, before the slinkier and smoother 'Gold Saucer' by Brunzi offers an equally danceable but less angular counterpoint. Flip it over and Tomska's 'Lethal Overdose' (Touch dub 2022) offers rushing sonics, off kilter snare damage and four to the floor thump, before Emile's 'Jeu Froid' completes the set in grimy basement style.

Review: RWN shows off the deftness of his sound designs here with four cuts of deep house and minimal that float in the cosmos. That's not to say they lack drive and dynamism - far from it. 'Apres L'heure' is beautifully serene and clean with a nimble groove underpinned by warming bass. Review: On his Pont Neuf label debut, DJ Psychiatre - a rising star of the French electronic underground who recently released a fine EP on Shall Not Fade - invites us to Enter The Chillzone. The title offers more than a hint of what's inside, as while there are plenty of club-ready moments, the whole thing is heady, loved-up, laidback, atmospheric and melody-rich. For proof, check the lilting lead lines, simmering chords, bubbly acid motifs and shuffling house beats of 'Simple as Fast', the Global Communication-influenced wonder of 'Don't F**k With My Groove' and the string-laden, sunrise-ready warmth of 'Rhythm Is Key'. Elsewhere, 'A Little Treat' is a jazzy trip-hop number smothered in tactile deep house synths, and 'Deep Water' is a luscious downtempo cut of the sort you might have heard in the late 1990s.

Roger Sanchez and Junior Sanchez deliver a boisterous, all-action revision of 'Revolution 909', DJ Sneak drops a typically weighty and bombastic remix of 'Burnin', and Masters At Work serve up a suite of revisions of 'Around The World' that naturally all hit the spot.

Review: Released last summer, Cosmonection's debut album, Hidden Places, was a gorgeously sunny affair that blended organic deep house grooves with bags of Balearic intent. As you'd expect, this remix EP is more obviously club-centric in tone, though the music on show remains pleasingly picturesque. Lis Sarocca gets things going with a deliciously breezy, piano-sporting Mediterranean house take on 'Morning Dew', before Marc Brauner delivers a sumptuously starry, rolling revision of 'Clouds' that doffs a cap to both Italian dream house and chunkier, more bass-heavy U.S deep house flavours. Elsewhere, Tour-Maubourg offers up a sensuous, ultra-deep shuffle through 'Let Me Tell You' stacked with mid-90s synthesiser organ sounds, soulful vocals and chunky beats, while the Black Loops '1am' mix of 'Locura' blends squelchy synth-bass, smooth beats and dreamy pads to excellent effect.

Review: Skylax has never cared for trends of fads and has always dealt in classically inclined house music from artists old and new. The French imprint now looks to Nicolas Aftalion for the second volume of his Spirit of House EP. He captures just that expertly with the opener 'Cruise In Paradise' riding a nice mid-tempo groove with heartfelt vocal hooks. 'A Message To Mad Mike' ups the energy a little with more prominent pads and 'Paris Is Burning' taps into a sense and soulful groove with lush, lazy drums. 'Soulful In Paris' has a nice 90s feel the way the chords and drums sit with one another and is sure to bring the good times.

Review: Aad de Mooy is better known as Paradise 3001 and has been releasing his fulsome take on techno since the mid 90s. Blue Highway is an EP from back then, 1994 to be exact, and it has aged faultlessly because these tracks will slot into any modern set without a problem, and likely be some of the best in it, in fact. It kicks off with the warped synth and bass entanglements of 'Mind & Motion' before the more gloopy and cosmic bass of 'Ludomil 75'. It's a masterful bit of future music that's followed by the vibrant Jaydee-like 'Blue Highways' and dreamier scapes of 'The Gates Of Dawn' and progressive cosmic funk of 'Mellow Moebe.'

Review: The Soul Clap label that was once so hype has admirably rolled on once the headlines passed and anyone not checking in on it since then has been losing out, frankly. Just get your ears around this new release from Tatie Dee for a start - it is a stylish six tracker though warm and bumping house with real heart. 'Nuit D'Menil' kicks off with lush late night chords and slick broken beats and from there things get more heavy and big with 'Bed & Break Fast' and then a Black Loops remix takes it into late night territory. 'I Wasn't Born In 1937' has a classic 90s vocal house feel and is brilliant and '16 Swing-71' brings jazz, Chicago and swing to another characterful cut before a darker, harder Belaria remix.

Review: French Theory dropped this much sought-after and enduring classic Lost On The Way To Destelbergen initially in 2006. It is a new beat anthem that has now been remastered by techno talent Thomas P Heckmann and still bears all the charm it had way back then. The original is a darkened hypnotic groove with stomping drums and sleek, haunting synths that lock you in for over eight minutes. 'Back To Destelbergen' is a shorter version with motorik kicks and then a final 'video edit' closes down. A must-cop 12" for sure.

Review: Super Discount was the hugely influential 1996 debut album by Etienne de Crecy. Several more volumes came and helped to define the French scene of the ear and they remain great inspirations to this day as De Crecy's work very much propagated certain other genres, from scratchy filter-house a la Daft Punk to the jazzier house genre of St Germain. This second volume is packed with plenty of names who helped to define the early French electronic scene such as Alex Gopher & Julien Delfaud, Philippe Zdar and DJ Mehdi. It's raw electro house that fizzes and spits with potent dancefloor scuzziness and energy even now.

Review: The third album on the Rezpektiva label is a superb album compilation across four sides of vinyl by the "nutty French sonic wizard" by the name of Professor Oz. The eight tracks are devastatingly futuristic even now despite the fact they were all written 1986 and 1995. They are considered to be lost experiments, hence the album title, and have been remastered from the original DAT tapes. They bottle up dusty breakbeats and proto-techno grooves with tribal drumming and trance tinged synth overtones, proggy progressions and acid basslines that will never go out of fashion.
