Notes: Pulse is a miniature IR (impulse response) loader pedal, that can apply a specific tonal profile to the input signal. Speaker cabinets typically change the tone of a guitar or bass guitar in a musical way, which is often collected using a microphone for sending to a mixing console for recording or sound reinforcement. Connecting the signal to a mixer before the speaker usually produces a sterile and harsh sound, which is where the Pulse pedal comes in. This pedal can mimic the speaker cabinet and microphone, meaning that the guitar signal can be taken straight from the preamp section and injected into a channel on the mixer. Another use for IR loaders is to mimic the response of an acoustic guitar, making an electric guitar sound more like an acoustic or an electro-acoustic guitar sound more natural. Pulse has modes for guitar cab, bass cab or acoustic guitar with 8 selectable types of each, adjusted by Level and Space controls. A 3.5mm headphone output means that this pedal can also be used for silent practice and an inbuilt audio to USB interface means that it can be used as the front end for a PC or Mac computer recording setup. Notes: Damp is the name given to this miniature digital reverb pedal to describe the immersive sound image provided by its 3 inbuilt reverb models. A choice of Spring, Plate or Hall reverberation types can be selected by the illuminated push button at the top of the pedal. Holding this button down during power-up selects between mono output or stereo output, which requires a stereo jack lead. Three rotary controls adjust Decay, Level and Tone settings as required. Pressing the footswitch activates or deactivates the effect, whilst holding this pedal enables a secondary effect - Shimmer in Plate mode or Freeze in Spring or Hall modes. The Damp pedal is versatile enough to cover a wide range of reverb styles with a minimal footprint on guitarists' pedalboards or for patching into an effects loop for other instruments or even vocals.

Review: Frost and Einzelkind's Pressure Traxx captures the evolution of minimal tech house over the past ten years, as the rigour of functional 4/4 gave way to different rhythms and motifs from the wider dance music lexicon. It was a smart move which helped reinvigorate the scene, and while they didn't do it on their own they absolutely fuelled the fire. Ten years in, their label is certainly due a retrospective which stretches out over eight sides of next-level workouts for long blends and marathon sets. The cast of characters hardly needs explaining - from Tobias and Villalobos to Edward and John Dimas, the quality never lets up and in one smartly arranged box set you're going to be gifted with the finest minimal in recent circulation.

Review: Laid Back is a duo that first formed in the late 70s. All these years and several hits (think 'Bakerman', 'Sunshine Reggae' and 'White Horse') and the duo is still making sublime grooves in their studio in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. With a worldwide reputation for super horizontal sounds that draw on soul, yacht rock, Balearic and downtempo they have dropped albums like Cosyland, the chill out classic Cosmic Vibes, 2013's double album Uptimistic Music and of course the now almost 45 year old Healing Feeling. In 2023 they return with Road to Fame, another sublime collection of tunes that sink you in deep to the sofa or the sun bed with great songwriting and dreamy hooks.

Review: Pianist and composer Keith Jarrett's fame stems in large part from his many solo piano improvisations, performed regularly since the early 1970s. Solo Concerts: Bremen/Lausanne is a recording of two such concerts, held in Germany and Switzerland in 1973; originally released as a 3xLP by ECM Records, it now comes reissued and remastered via ECM. This live compilation flaunts Jarrett's emotional range, spanning everything from lyrical melodies to dissonant clusters, from rhythmic grooves to abstract soundscapes. The album was a critical and commercial success, winning the DownBeat award for the best jazz recording of the year in 1974, and establishing Jarrett as a leading figure in the solo piano genre.

Review: Miles Davis's Seven Steps to Heaven album came in 1963 and was recorded in two different studios at a vital time in his career. It was the first new work in a year (back then he had released thick and fast since debuting in 1950) and can be rightly thought to be the first time his second great quintet really came together and showed their mettle. The album got two Grammy nominations and is also noted for being the last time Davis mixed up standards with original works. It's one of his most expressive and well-played oeuvres. This special edition reissue has been remastered from the original analogue master tapes so sounds of the highest quality and is backed with detail, tone and definition.
