Roll To Life (Terry F Tribute)
She's Coming
Rendal
Review: New to Mr. Banger Records comes the latest four-tracker from Ukrainian producer Roma Khropko. Kicking the year off with a bang after a whopping four EPs released in 2023, 'Time Frame' slows down time at the critical moment of now, in which a breather is perhaps most needed. Khropko's take on house and techno is organ-ic, hypnotic and sparse, preferring the interplay of different percussion, acid and FM synth parts. Terry F tribute 'Roll To Life' is the moment the EP finds its feet, drawing on thick gabber-esque kicks and muted pads-n-bloops, to counterpose the janky saws of 'She's Coming' to follow. Closer 'Rendal' flaunts the breadth of Khropko's palette with a chugging closing rabbit hole plunge.

Review: Celebrating two decades since they burst onto the scene with an era-defining album, Digitalism unleashes their Idealism Forever as a special 20th-anniversary edition. This milestone release encapsulates the duo's pioneering blend of electronic euphoria and indie sensibilities with plenty of scuzzy sonic filth. From the anthemic energy of 'Pogo' to the nostalgic charm of 'Zdarlight,' each track brims with vim and vigour and harks back to this unique time when electro, indie and dance music all collided. Remastered to perfection, the album's big beats and infectious melodies are sure to captivate both longtime fans and new listeners alike.

Review: Sweat It Out Records kicks off their tasty Sweat Sampler series with their first volume, cutting niftily across four exceptionally sweaty bops, spanning tongue-in-cheek deep tech reworks and downtempo disco delights. First off is the dream team of Cid and Havoc & Lawn, whom together deliver a hilariously effective house version of America's 'A Horse With No Name'; this is shortly followed by Saturday Love, Kon and Furious's 'Come Out', a rejigged nu-disco samosa packed with some rare vocal spices; then there's 'Give It To Me' by Marco Lys and Ben Miller, a bass-driven bouncer unafraid of lasershot winddowns, injunctive vocals and risers; and finally, there's Set Mo's 'Could I Be', the anthem of the bunch, whose buildup and drop is alarming, affecting, cumulatively awe-striking.

Review: After a long emergence in and adjacent to the South London underground music scene, producer, singer, performer and outlandish mask donner Lynks returns to the fore with the announcement of their debut album, Abomination. Moving between the well-paired, current twinnings of post punk, art pop, and rubbery electronica, Lynks lays down a whopping debut full-length here, commenting on casual hookup culture and queer psychic contemporaneity amid a brash and ironically relentless weirdo rave faux-schlock.

The 13-track album features a handful of Deadmau5' biggest hits, including but not limited to: 'The Veldt' with Chris James, 'Professional Griefers' with Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, 'Channel 42' with Wolfgang Gartner, and 'Telemiscommunications' with Imogen Heap. Now reissued for an even-more contemporary audience, this latest coloured vinyl version provides a new window into the world of the helmeted muroid cynic, and the humorously updated progressive house sound he helped trailblaze.

Review: Much loved doom monger emo kids Depeche Mode have always been ripe for remixing by new generations of electronic music artists and so it is that there 'My Favourite Stranger' gets a series of re-rubs here on Columbia. Tech house mainstay Boris Brejcha remixes first and elongates the grooves with mournful pads up top. The Ela Minus remix of the same tune brings some extra textured and darker moods and the best is saved till the last if you ask us. The Lond Island Sound remix is high speed and tinged with electro synth work as the moody vocals echo about the mix to trippy effect.

Review: As part of a new reissues bundle of the work of Canadian dance music extraordinaire Deadmau5, the 2010 album 4x4=12 now gets an as-it-was reissue via EMI. Including some of the helmeted spectacle's most enduring contribution to the dance music world from the era - including 'Some Chords', 'Animal Rights' with Wolfgang Gartner, 'Sofi Needs A Ladder', and 'Raise Your Weapon' with Greta Svabo Bech - the overall 11 tracks here are a worthy blast from the past, documenting the juncture at which Zimmerman moved on from huge walls of emotive progressive house gush, and segwayed into a techier, more mathematical sound befitting of electro house verging on complextro.

Review: The propulsive, tectonic Force of Electro is embodied in the eponymous moniker, returning for their its release since 1997 (notable indeed, that the multi-moniker artist should return to this one only now). Six masterclassics in the mode of acid electro beckon us into alternate frenzies, highlights among these experiences being the central banger 'Beyond After Dark' and the lesser-spottable ambi-acid closer, 'Beyond The Beats'.

Review: Parisian label Increase The Groove are flying the flag for electro house that's fun as hell, so don't be put off by the title of this new collab from Alyhas and Occibel. Emotional Damage is a misnomer for the infectious joy bursting from this four-strong release, whether it's the title track with its monster boogie licks, Italo arps and catchy vocoder or the underwater pop swirl of 'Vocoder DIT'. Tiago Walter is on hand to remix 'Emotional Damage' into an artfully pumping version for the peak time and then 'Mindset' completes the picture with another cybernetic trip through ear-snagging hooks and playful FX.

Time & Space features another four fresh productions that fold all manner of influences into fresh and fruity party starters. You'll hear breakbeat, bass and garage influences creeping in around the insistent thrust of the 4/4, making for another sure shot for anyone who likes spicing up their session with minimal which looks beyond the limitations of the genre.

Review: Panta Rhei is many things - the concept of 'everything flows' in the philosophy of Heraclitus, a rock band from Hungary and now also a new Parisian techno label that makes its bow with a various artists' EP. There is plenty of analogue jack to the groove foundations of Prince De Takicardie's hurried 'Ammoniak', then Baptiste brings some depraved acid lines to his mind-melting cut 'Space'. On the flip you will find more prickly acid lines, stark drum textures and future techno sounds from Idris Bena, Zapp-ared and Djamal Nait.

Review: New year, new label, and this one is out of Spain. Tiny kick off with an irresistible hand stamped and limited 12" from Ahmet Mecnun. The artist opens up with 'Jungle Park' which is a party starting and brilliantly filthy throwback jam that combines big drums, fat bass and reversed lines with prickly percussion. 'Act Of Darkness' brings some mutant acid lines and pulsing synths to a loose techno rhythm and 'Panic Mode' races ahead to the cosmos on surging cosmic lines and steely drum patter. 'Junglist' closes out with another ode to the old school.

All these years later we now know he was in fact ahead of the times and somewhat helped to precipitate the vast EDM revolution that followed with its maximal sounds, crazy characters, and sync button sets. For Lack of a Better Name was the Canadian's fourth album back in 2009 and it features the critically acclaimed 'Strobe' as well as 'Ghosts 'n' Stuff' with Rob Swire of Pendulum. As far as electro and prog house goes, it hits all the right notes.

Review: Attention banger alert! Parissior is a Spanish DJ producer who has been producing countless tracks for many years now. His style could be described as a mix of dark disco, indie dance, Italo, and trance, but personally we think it goes much further. He has a total mastery of the art of production (something we have rarely seen); it seems more like sound design it sounds so huge. He's managed the perfect EP - one that all the Italian indie dance producers, one that even the biggest names in the genre have thus far failed to create. There's nothing cheesy about it; we've been listening to his music non-stop since we received it, with no weariness in sight. This guy is monstrous. The 12" begins with the brilliant 'Antennae', which is the perfect mix of Italo new wave & trance, followed by 'Canes Venatici', which could've been created by Daft Punk if they'd chosen to be less commercial. and put their balls on the table instead of hiding behind masks. 'Ceres' and 'Alpha Apodis' follow the same line. This maxi is gigantic - a f%c$ing masterpiece.

Their cosmic house excursion starts with the playful robot funk of 'The Talkbox Track' and then takes in the silky space tech of 'M Is For Muff' which is effortlessly cool. Review: Midland has been smart about his arc as a producer, taking his time rather than churning out releases for the sake of it. As such, when we do get something new from the lad, it always feels like an occasion, and of course the music invariably matches the mood. 'You Never Take Me Dancing' is in fact the B-side opener on this new four-track record, but it plays out like the lead role on an EP bursting with fresh ideas. 'Strangers On The Train' toys with more experimental synthesis and a stripped back mix down that takes its cues from footwork, while 'Drift Into The Algorithm' plays out as the slinkier, shimmering house he's perhaps been better known for of late. The class and consideration just spills out of this record - more than worth waiting for.

Review: It's 10 up for TVIR and to mark the occasion they have a fantastic five-track outing from Komponente. 'Gash' is a fizzing, dense and slow-motion cut with a grinding low end and some serious bounce in the drums and bass. It's both fun and menacing all at once and has real anthem potential once the vocals come in. 'Flowers' has a brighter melodic touch but also lashings of spiky acid and 'Sanctuary' is then a deft tech house workout with suspensory and angelic vocals. 'Mind Revolt' is an unhinged mix of ghoulish laughter and bright sine waves, then 'Veronika' shuts down with a meditative broken beat.

Review: This Spanish label continues to try to take the focus away from egos with more direct to dancefloor tech house tackle that makes you leave you worries at the door. Moray's punchy 'Ghosting Fletcher' was a standout tune on the newly launched Extrude label back in May and now he keeps up the pressure here with the heavy-hitting metallic tech of 'Renaissance' and turbocharged peak time house rave of 'Another Time'. Acid arrives into the picture on the techno-leaning percussive bump of 'Cachimba Acida' and 'Gruvaso' then spins out on some freaky sound effects and alien details.

Across the four fresh cuts are explorations of the sound worlds where electro, tech, acid, minimal and breakbeat all collide. 'Dream Shores' is an emotionally intense cut with waves of synth and subtle acid, crisp drums and big bouncing beats. 'Planet JX' is a darker, more downbeat number full of future menace and melancholy and 'Andromeda' is a cosmic workout with fizzing lines and sonar pulses over mid tempo drums. The last cut of the lot might be the best - the dreamy 'Now Is The Time' with its majestic chords and melodies over Detroit house drums.

Review: NND takes us deep into the heart of a warehouse party after dark with this powerful new EP for Extrude. He hails from Italy and is part of the new school with an equal mix of retro sounds and future ideals. This is a third solo EP from the artist and it kicks off with the acid lashings of 'Prototype', a slick tech cut with neon chords and bumpy bass. 'Nightmare Voyage' is a more cosmic trip with darker energy and heads-down dancing vibes and then 'Plutone' cuts loose with wild synth lens spraying about over raw drum work. 'Terrorist' shuts down with a haunting late-night vibe.

Review: In hindsight, the summer of 1997 saw the release of some genuinely brilliant and ground-breaking dance albums - not least Chemical Brothers' second studio set, Dig Your Own Hole. As this expanded 25th anniversary edition proves, the album was the musical high point of the often painfully shallow big beat movement - a thrill-a-minute ride that races between funk-fuelled, break-heavy hits ('Block-Rockin' Beats'), rock-tinged heaviness (the title track), fuzz-fuelled post-techno hedonism (''Electrobank'), La Funk Mob-influenced trip-hop ('Pikup'), heady ambience ('Lost in the K-Hole') and riffs on the Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows' ('Setting Sun' and the incredible 'My Private Psychedelic Reel'). CD two will delight fans, featuring as it does a quintet of previously unreleased tracks and alternate versions, with the opioid pulse of 'Cylinders' and the slamming 'It Doesn't Matter (alternate mix)' standing out.

Review: Deep Shopping has us filly our trolleys once more with plenty of top-shelf goods here. Mister Bellini is the one on the till and his elastic, bouncy techno is all about pure thrills. The restless and characterful 'What What?!' opens up with plenty of joyfulness. The sound design throughout these tunes is fresh and fun but never silly. 'Stop The Buz' is a little tougher but still with some tripped-out motifs, then 'yes' is a hyperspeed spin-out. On the flip side are squelchy future bass bangers, police sirens and low-key basement tracks. Brilliant EP.

Review: 70s space disco and laser-rock outfit Rockets started out life in Paris as Crystal. They later renamed and had singles such as 'Future Woman' and debut album 'Rockets' which helped establish them and win them a wider fan base. 1980 saw them record their Live album and offer up a cross section of their tracks in all their synth and futuristic glory. The aforementioned 'Future Woman' features along with the heavy sounds of 'Drum Solo' and Kerouac-referring 'On The Road Again' which is a jaunty disco groove with vocoder vocals.

Sound Synthesis - "Necessary Order" (6:01)
Roger Van Lunteren - "Le Dee Trois Trio Prends Trois" (4:18)
Review: Since launching two years ago, Bristol's We're Going Deep label has consistently delivered some of the deepest and most atmospheric club tracks around. The music they champion is, as many in the West Country would no doubt confirm, "proper deep". That's certainly the case with the tracks on the label's seventh multi-artist extravaganza. Acid Test regular Tin Man kicks things off with a touch of TB-303-doused proto-house minimalism ('I Said Acid'), before Rai Scott takes us 50 leagues below the sea on the ultra-deep, drowsy and hypnotic house cut 'I'll Meet You on the Dancefloor'. Over on side B, Sound Synthesis's 'Necessary Order' is a simply breath-taking trip into deep electro territory, while Roger Van Lunteren's EP-closing contribution is a deep (and deeply psychedelic) acid house trip.

Review: Auto Sound City have been building a fine head of steam over the last few years. A series of quality EPs on the likes of Chicago Bee, Weapons of Desire and 3am, have all established a rugged electro and techno sound that is big on drums. This double pack is their strongest statement yet. Cuts like 'This Is Me (feat Shoko Yoshida)' pair gallivanting drums with aloof vocals and bright synth stabs. 'Complete Madness' is more stripped back but just as muscular with its icy hi hats and lashings of synth while 'Fully Clothed & Standing' explores loopy and filtered disco house.
