Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Review: Despite a sizable, high-quality discography that stretches back to 1994, Boo Williams has never been as hyped or celebrated as many of his Chicago deep house peers. Perhaps it's time we gave him some love because the Natural Service EP - his first solo 12" on Chiwax since 2014 - is undeniably excellent. Check first opener 'Ambushed', where twinkling electronics and sumptuous pads ride jackin' drums and a brilliant bassline, before turning your attention to 'Echoes of the Dance', an acid-flecked journey through dreamy, loved-up deep house that's as picturesque as they come. Flipside 'Zone' is even more hypnotic and trance-inducing, sitting somewhere between classic deep house and the techier end of Omar-S's output.

Review: Deep88 is a producer who deals in real depth and stripped back analogue sounds. He's well informed by the classic Chicago and Detroit sounds and brings that to his own always atmospheric work. Here he arrives on Dutch label What About This Love with four more mindful cuts of classy backroom action. 'Multi Final' has hissing hi hats turgid chord stabs over rolling drums, then 'Intergalactic' releases the pressure with more lazy drums and claps, sweeping chords and wispy melodies. The cool rolling rhythms return for 'Leggera' then 'Regardless Of Everything' is a kaleidoscope of deep house colour.

Review: Ocha welcome back Robert Matos for more of his steamy Afro-jazz cum house fusions. 'Midnight Jazz Journey' is a real spiritual trip with the mutterings of Ron Trent buried deep in the middle. The cosmic chords ring out with real soul as live drums tumble and delicate percussion dances up top to make for a life-affirming sound full of rich and lush musicality. Casamena then dials it back a little and layers in some warming house drums for his club mix while the Coflo Backside mix is a heady broken beat dancer.

Review: Brooklyn-based Malik Hendricks does a fine line in raw, deep but visceral house sounds that cannot fail to make an impact both physically and emotionally. He has done so on the likes of Bliss Point, Coloring Lessons and Darker Than Wax before now and here arrives on People Of Earth with more compelling cuts. 'Move On Up' is a steamy and sweaty house thumper with impassioned vocal swirls, 'All Mine' layers in some heavenly melodies that manage to uplift the mood in a subtle fashion and 'Feeling Like Larry' references the great Mr Heard, surely, with its balmy cosmic pads and spiritual house depths. 'The Way' (feat Tane) is licked with acoustic guitar riffs that bring to mind open-air dancing by the Med.

Review: Deeptrax sublabel Contrafact has previously released work from the likes of Hanna and Orlando Voorn, so you know they're dealing with the real deal when it comes to deep house and techno close to the source. On this latest release they turn to Atlanta original Reggie Dokes for this celestial three-tracker which opens up with 'We Was Bad', a warm but suitably freaky vocal cut backed by space-cruising synth hooks and strapped to a sizzling drum machine pulse. 'Amor' and '5 Elements' keeps the soul levels riding high and the jack in full effect, making for highly usable cuts to inject some real feeling into a late night set shot through with Dokes' unmistakable melodic flair.

Review: Bad Taste's Bad Company have got an absolute wealth of stone-cold killer cuts in their arsenal and this next remix package is no different. It kicks off with a lush remix by Insideinfo of 'Torpedo' which has a bouncy, fleshy groove with garage-style snares up top and a nagging soul vocal that tugs at the heart. Review: Somewhat confusingly, much of the music we assume was recorded by Italian Italo-disco group Koto was actually made by Dutch producer Michiel van der Kuy - albeit in a similar style. From The Dawn Of Time, which first surfaced in 1992 three years after he controversially acquired the name, is one such release. This reissue - the first on vinyl, as far as we can ascertain - shows what van der Kuy brought to the project, namely a rush-inducing sense of euphoria, synth riffs reminiscent of Euro-dance club cuts from the period, and rock-solid musicianship. Combine these with throbbing, Italo-disco and Hi-NRG style basslines, bustling machine drums and plenty of sonic star-gazing, and you have a post-Italo album that sticks closely to the blueprint laid out by the Dutchman's Italian predecessors.

Review: US producer and DJ Sepehr returns with 'Diaspora Cocktail' for Planet Euphorique, breaking from his own imprint Shaytoon for a hair-down foray through cheekier-side of scene-setting techno. Review: Dynamite Cuts has got a couple of Roy Ayers Ubiquity projects in the fire this month - a brilliant 7" double pack as well as this 45rpm. Both sides of this one rather take quite different paths to your affections. 'A Tear To A Smile' is high-speed and complex funk for the dance floor with loopy rhythms and Roy's mad vibes playing over the top next to some neat bass work. Flip it over and you'll find the much more deep and laid-back 'Time & Space' with its lavish cosmic keys and jazz vocals all working you into a star-gazing lather.

Review: Ernie Mckone & Toby Baker have produced this new single for Erine & The Family McKone. The A-side features Valerie Ettienne who is well known for her work with the likes of Galliano and Jamiroquai (with him she made a cover of a Brenda Russell classic). 'In The Thick Of It' is a super silky and mid-tempo soul jam with lavish melodies and gentle grooves. The flipside is in cahoots with Lex Cameron, an increasingly noteworthy London-based singer. It's a tender and loved up tune for cosy dance floor moments.

Review: Back in 2004, Japanese r&b artist Tina headed into the studio with self-styled 'king of digging' Muro - a prolific DJ, producer, record collector and re-editor - to record some tracks for her fifth solo album. The most acclaimed of the lot was 'Struttin With Muro', a dope, funk-fuelled jam that made use of some choice Roy Ayers samples. At the time, Muro also prepared alternate takes - utilising different elements of the sampled Ayers track - which then appeared on a now impossible to find promo 12-inch. This 45 offers up those two takes - vocal and instrumental - and both sound like guaranteed party-starting jams, the kind of hybrid r&b/funky hip-hop workouts that never fail to get things going out on the dancefloor.

Review: There is no messing with this new EP from The Final Experiment crew in Germany. They tap up DD 3 for two tracks of stylish, impactful techno that locks you in from the off. It's 'Fences' which does so with its tightly woven kicks and bass - punchy but fluid, they are overlaid with dancing synth arps that bring light and soul. 'ATCX' is then a minimal cut with frosted synths fizzing about the mix over jangling chords and deeply buried kicks that grow ever louder in the mix. It's a thrilling and fresh sound for sure.

Review: Japanese reggae/dancehall artist Boogie Man embarked on a career in the early 90s, inspired by the prospect of filling an unfilled niche: adding humorous and bombastic lyrics to an internationally renowned genre he loved. The track 'Pachinco Man' is a tribute to pachinko, a popular arcade game in Japan that involves shooting metal balls into a machine. Much like the ballistics of such an unforgettable arcade fixture, the track flaunts Boogie Man's energetic vocals over an upbeat dancehall riddim, emphasising positivity and humour. Review: East St. Louis soul singer Raye Cole is on the cusp of big things, having been picked up through talent scouting competitions and drawing praise from high places. Following a debut split single with Rachel Maxann last year, she's back on Original Gravity with her own outing, a hard-stepping, raunchy funk jam which serves as the perfect vehicle for her raw, righteous voice. As well as the slightly naughty original version of 'I'm A Lady' on the A side, there's also a tastefully censored 'Radio Version' on the flip in case you need to be mindful of your audience. Whichever version you plump for, the sass in those horn stabs tells the listener all they need to know.

Review: Charles Green, who performed under the name Chas, released his debut album For Your Love on Love Joy Records in 1985. The album's soulful r&b accompanied Green's smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics at the forefront. The album's title track was also released as a single and received some airplay on radio stations at the time and helped to establish Green as a promising new voice in the soul and r&b music scenes. Green went on to be a keyboardist for boogie, funk, soul and house releases such as Scott Grooves & Roy Ayers 'Expansions' in 1998 among others.

This is a 45rpm debut from this band and a fine one too that comes all the way from their homeland of Surabaya, Indonesia. First up is the delightfully dusty 'Leave The Dreadlocks' with low-slung and lazy bass deep down low, plenty of acoustic riffs and heartfelt vocals that are full of yearning, matched by the horns with similar melancholy. Review: Sweely has been making moves for a while in underground fires. He's dropped his stylish electronic sounds on labels like Bunter Side Up to great acclaim and now gets the nod from another revered UK outlet in Lobster Theramin. This red and gold 12" finds the producer offering up some tracks from his archives, starting with the balmy and bumpy depths of 'Stronger Than Me'. As always the synths are lithe and neon in colour, liquid in design and restless in the way they bounce about the mix over the kinetic, infectious drums. It's a similar story with the rest of these club-ready but charming cuts.

Review: Bordello A Parigi looks to lowkey but high-class German artist Lauer for a fine four-track exploration of the similarities and differences between deep house and disco. The sentimental 'Harmony Unit' kicks off with lush chords that lead to starry eyes and raised hands then 'Betone' has chugging grooves and spangled chords under longing vocal coos. 'Frizzante' brings the dazzling disco brilliance with pinging analogue drums and bright arps and 'Playa' closes down with a playful and tooting vibe that recalls the classic 'Inspector Norse.' Review: Deep Purple are often mentioned in the same breath as the main innovators of heavy Metal, like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but as this collection of radio transmissions from 1968 shows, they have a much closer relation to the good old fashioned funk than either of those rivals. Ian Paice's drumming on opening track 'Speed King' makes the track much more suitable for dancing to than headbanging, and we challenge you to hear their version of Billie Joe Royal's 'Hush' without thinking of The Charlatans' 'The Only One I Know'. With a generally relaxed feel about this cover version-heavy selection - Hendrix's 'Hey Joe' and The Beatles 'Hush' also get the Purple treatment - this is a different and altogether more accessible slant on the legends that you might not have even guessed existed.

Review: DEAS drops his first EP of the year on his own Bau Muzik label. It is another reminder that he has a high-quality take on raw techno which has made him one of the more exciting producers out there. 'Praxis' has a superb pent-up tension with the unresolved synth loops shimmering over the icy hi hats and rooted drums. 'Black Form' is darker, with more textured clap chatter and bleeping synths. 'Elements' cuts loose with spraying and frazzled lines and edgy drum loops and 'Prefix' will then get dancers banging the walls with its streamlined techno intensity.

Review: Hermit in a Rave Cave is one of some 30-odd alases for prolific Dutch studio nerd Legowelt. He debuted the project in 2022 and after a fine first EP, he follows it up with a second superb self-titled effort on the ever-excellent Clone Jack For Daze. As always with Legowelt, this is machine-made music with real soul and nice dusty aesthetics. It kicks off with some deep, Detroit tinged techno bleeps, more gritty and muggy lo-fi drum track 'Central Meekness' they the glistening cosmic melodies of 'Digitize Your Daydream' sink you into a wormhole. There's a terminator feel to the retro-future sounds of 'Do You Look Like Me', subtle uplift to the trance chords of 'Flow Network Ooze' and pure star gazing bliss on deep house jam 'Whisking A Dream With Satans Trident'. This is some of his best work in years.
