That much is clear from Genius Of Time, a two-disc collection of the Paradise Garage resident's finest remixes. Heavy on dub delays, spaced-out synthesizers and rolling grooves, it gathers together a swathe of stone-cold classics - killer reworks of Gwen Guthrie, Man Friday, Peech Boys, Loose Joints and Jimmy Ross - with lesser-known, but no less vital, tweaks of cuts from Dee Dee Bridgewater, Esther Williams, Smokey Robinson and Tramaine. While dedicated fans will have many of these already, it serves as the perfect introduction to Levan's distinctive and hugely influential style.

Review: Two decades have passed since Massive Attack signaled a new stage in their career with the dark, paranoid and claustrophobic brilliance of "Mezzanine", their third studio album. Given the current global political climate, it arguably sounds even more relevant 20 years after it first hit stores. This time round, the re-mastered original set comes accompanied by something none of us have heard before: Mad Professor's complete dub translation, which was slated for release around the turn of the Millennium but for one reason or another never came out. Like his take on "No Protection", it's an inspired set of revisions that takes 3D and Daddy G's dense and red-eyed originals into wild new bass-heavy places. Even if you own the original version already, it's well worth picking up this special edition just for that alone.

Review: New albums from Aussie fusionists the Avalanches don't come around that often, so the appearance of We Will Always Love you four years after its predecessor, Wildflower, is genuinely big news (it previously took them 16 years to record the follow-up to their acclaimed 2000 debut, Since I Left You). Somewhat predictably, they've hit the mark once more, supplementing their usual dense sample collages and multi-coloured, genre-bending compositions (a little psychedelia, Balearica and synth-pop here, a dash of dream pop, future R&B and synth-pop there) with vocals and musical contributions from a dizzying cast-list of like-minded guests (think Neneh Cherry, Johnny Marr, Jamie XX, Blood Orange, Tricky, Cornelius and Kelly Moran). Hard to pin down but royally entertaining from start to finish, We Will Always Love You is a triumph.

Review: Given that the concept of the 12" version was born during the mid-to-late 1970s, it seems fitting that this four-disc trawl through extended mixes of the era leans heavily on classic disco cuts. Of course, there are some genuine must-haves among the DJ-friendly disco extensions on offer, not least Elton John's Philly Soul anthem 'Are You Ready For Love', Cerrone's 'Supernature', Dan Hartman's 'Relight My Fire' and Diana Ross's epic 'Love Hangover'. Throw in a smattering of post-punk and new wave gems, plus arguably the greatest end-of-night anthem of all, Wings' 'Goodnight Tonight' (the extended version of which gets brilliantly dubbed-out in the middle and is far superior to the seven-inch mix) and you have a rock-solid collection of club-ready '70s sing-alongs.

Review: Astonishingly, the "awesome mixtape" soundtrack to Marvel's first Guardians of the Galaxy film was one of the best-selling vinyl albums of 2014. With the second movie now packing out cinemas, the time has come for the superhero tag-team (or, more specifically, the film's producers) to release another selection of "awesome" tracks. A quick glance at the tracklist confirms the presence of a string of '70s rock anthems - think ELO's "Mr Blue Sky" and Fleetwood Mac's iconic "The Chain" - alongside gentler fare from the likes of George Harrison ("My Sweet Lord", a track that famously landed the former Beatle in court on a charge of plagiarism) and Cat Stevens (the timeless "Father & Son").

Review: Frankie Goes To Hollywood - was there ever a group who created such a phenomenon and fell apart so soon afterwards? The seismic shockwave created by 'Relax' resounds eternally through pop culture, from the provocative video to the throbbing proto house production. Alas, the success dissolved the band before they could build on their undeniable talent, but there's still a rich trove of classic songs and more than enough alternative mixes to fill out this definitive three-disc collection. Review: There's no denying that Dubnobasswithmyheadman was a landmark electronic album. It marked Underworld's progression from electro-pop also-rans to festival headling techno titans, thanks in no small part to the addition of DJ/producer Darren Emerson to the line-up. This 20th anniversary box set gives the album the treatment it deserves, with a fully re-mastered version of the album being joined by four bonus CDs. While two of these discs feature previously heard material - one disc of singles from the period, another of lesser-known remixes - the other two are of more historical interest. Disc four is particularly illuminating, boasting as it does a swathe of unreleased recordings and demos from the period (including early versions of "Dark & Long" and "Mmm Skyscraper I Love You"), while the final disc presents a live rehearsal recorded in the band's home studio in 1993.

Review: To tie in with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, Brian Eno has decided to put out a new edition of his decidedly spacey 1983 ambient album "Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks", which started life as the soundtrack to a long-forgotten documentary about NASA's space program. The edition is rather special, not only because it contains a remastered version of the original set created by Eno, his brother Roger and regular collaborator Daniel Lanois, but also because it contains a second disc of previously unheard material. This is not old, though, but rather brand new recordings - described as "new interpretations of the film soundtrack" - made by the Lanois and the Eno brothers late last year in a similar style. In a word: essential.

Review: J Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive will likely go down in history as one of 2010s hip-hop's most emotive albums. Through various forces, we'd contend it found itself on the iPods of anyone so much as remotely interested in exploring hip-hop beyond the pales of Kendrick Lamar, Drake or Eminem. It put Cole on the map for many young listeners: the virginity-loss classic 'Love Yourz' is the obvious go-to hit, but it doesn't represent the rest of the album, which mostly falls into the category of gushing and nostalgic. '03 Adolescence' and 'Apparently' are our highlights, with Cole indulging emotive jazz-piano interludes and pop-rap production tropes, with his rhymes always circling back to the album's core subject matters: home, childhood, wrong paths, memories.

Review: On the sleeve essay that accompanies 'Foreverandevernomore', his 29th studio album, Brian Eno admits that it's only recently that he's realised that he should embrace the idea of musicians as "feelings-merchants" - basically, that the music he makes can alter and enhance his listeners' mood. Given how emotive his music often is, it's a surprising omission. He's certainly put the idea into practice here, though, delivering a typically swelling, immersive ambient opus - crafted with a mixture of electronics, effects and more traditional instruments - marked out by his own haunting, thoughtful vocalisations (the first time he's used the human voice in decades). Even by Eno's high standards, the results - particularly 'We Let In' and 'There Were Bells' - are genuinely beguiling.
